Tyson Fury’s Final Opponent Before Facing Anthony Joshua ‘Leaked’

Published

on

The opponent for Tyson Fury‘s final warm-up bout before facing Anthony Joshua has been leaked, and it’s likely to cause controversy.

‘The Gypsy King’ has signed a contract to fight ‘AJ’ before the end of 2026, with the pair finally set to deliver one of the most-anticipated fights in British boxing history.

However, prior to Fury vs Joshua, both men will have warm-up fights. Joshua already has a clash with Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga booked for the 25th of July in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fury has confirmed that he will also compete this summer. The 37-year-old is set to return to the ring on the 1st of August in Dublin, Ireland.

Identity of Tyson Fury’s Next Opponent Revealed

Tyson Fury

Details of his planned opponent for that bout have now emerged, and it’s safe to say that few will be expecting Tyson to have any problems getting the victory.

Per Boxing News, the former unified world heavyweight champion will face undefeated opposition in the warm-up bout. However, at 41 years old, Nelson Hysa is well past his physical prime.

Holder of the unheralded WBO Global Heavyweight Championship, Hysa is no stranger to Fury, with the pair having sparred together on multiple occasions.

The fight has yet to be officially signed, but the veteran heavyweight is said to be the leading contender to be Fury’s final obstacle before the Joshua clash, with final details now being worked out.

In truth, though, Hysa is a downgrade in terms of opposition compared to Arslanbek Makhmudov, who Fury beat easily in his comeback fight in April.

Curiously, Hysa is ranked as the best heavyweight in Albania, sitting just above Joshua’s warm-up foe, Prenga. However, it remains to be seen whether he will have the same level of ambition as his compatriot when it comes to their summer fights.

Prenga has vowed to ‘cancel’ Fury vs Joshua by knocking ‘AJ’ out in their July clash, stating:

“Brother, it’s like going from one to 100. Everyone will see on July 25 who I really am. They chose me as a warm-up fight for him and Tyson Fury but that’s not going to happen. I am going to cancel that, that’s for sure.”

Nelson Hysa

Hysa may not be quite so keen to spring a shock. Not only has he trained alongside Fury, but he also recently became stablemates with Tyson, having signed with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

Another clue the contest may have more of an exhibition feel comes in that it will serve as the co-main event on a card headlined by Pierce O’Leary vs Mark Chamberlain for the IBO Super Lightweight Championship.

If, as expected, both Fury and Joshua come through their respective fights, all eyes will be on the fight the world really wants to see as the two biggest names in British boxing finally settle their differences.

Newcastle Set Transfer Price For Nick Pope As Clubs Circle

Published

Newcastle United could lose one of the most “popular” members of their squad this summer, as The Sun reports that the Magpies have set a transfer price for an exit.

The potential move comes as part of a potential rebuild within the team, as a disappointing Premier League campaign ended with a mid-table finish.

A lack of European football for next season has resulted in early work to transform the team, as Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona as the first exit of the many that are expected.

Links continue to arise over a possible exit for Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall, and Tino Livramento, but there are others who are being tracked by Premier League clubs this summer.

Nick Pope Transfer Exit Latest

According to the report from The Sun, Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope could leave this summer, despite recently triggering a one-year extension clause in his contract that will now keep him at the club until 2027.

It’s claimed that a £5 million offer would be enough to tempt the Magpies into a sale for the 34-year-old, who has spent four years at the club so far.

The experienced shot-stopper is believed to be considering his options over a stay at the club, or whether he wants to take on a new challenge elsewhere.

Pope was described as a “popular” member of the dressing room last season by Gordon, while manager Howe has also praised his ability for the side, even with a downturn in form.

There is no shortage of suitors for Pope, if he is to leave Newcastle, as the report also states that Premier League sides Leeds United and Ipswich Town are monitoring the goalkeeper’s situation.

Leeds are on the market for another goalkeeper after Lucas Perri struggled to adapt to life in the division, while Karl Darlow could leave the club as a free agent.

As for Ipswich, they have switched goalkeepers around in the past season with both Christian Walton and Alex Palmer battling it out for the number one shirt.

The Tractor Boys earned promotion, but are looking at Pope as an option to boost their chances of survival next season, with the goalkeeper who once featured in their academy ranks.

It remains to be seen whether an exit will be made, but any move will likely prompt Newcastle into the market themselves.

If Newcastle do move on from Pope, then the club will need to enter the market in search of another goalkeeper to take them to the next level.

James Trafford is linked as an option to replace the 34-year-old in the summer, having come close to joining the Magpies last summer before a return to Manchester City.

The 23-year-old was swiftly usurped by Gianluigi Donnarumma in the same window, however, and the lack of game time that has followed looks set to prompt an exit.

Newcastle are in the market for reinforcements.

Beyond Trafford, the report claims that Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen is an option for Newcastle in the market, as he continues to be linked with an exit from the club.

Any move will be on top of the agreement to sign Ewen Jaouen, who is a 20-year-old shot-stopper from Reims, viewed as an option for the future.

Tottenham To Reach Agreement For Van Hecke Transfer

Tottenham have already failed with two bids for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke, but they will not be deterred from trying to sign the 26-year-old, GIVEMESPORT understands.

After saving the club from relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season, Roberto De Zerbi‘s clear priority is improving the defence he has at Spurs, with Andy Robertson having already signed on a free transfer from Liverpool.

Marcos Senesi will join the Scot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with confirmation of his transfer to the north London club expected imminently.

If Spurs are to get a deal over the line to sign van Hecke from the Seagulls, that would mean their first three signings of the summer window were all defenders. And it is no shock to see De Zerbi home in on the defence, after all, Spurs have shipped an incredible 113 goals in the last two Premier League seasons, finishing 17th in both campaigns.

Tottenham made a bid for van Hecke last week, although the exact fee was not disclosed. It was immediately rejected by Brighton, but Seagulls chief executive Paul Barber revealed the Lilywhites had followed up with a second offer too.

Speaking to Talksport, he said: “There’s always going to be a lot of interest in our best players, and certainly in the case of Jan Paul.

“We’ve been very clear that that interest has been ongoing for a while, it’s coming from multiple sources. Yes, we have rejected a bid from Tottenham over the last week or so, in fact, two bids.

“From that point of view, it has to be right for us as well as the player.

“We have to be in a position to make the best trades to suit our model and also to make sure that we’re supporting Fabian [Hurzeler], because he’s got another big season ahead of him.”

GMS understands that Spurs intend to make a third bid for the Dutchman, who is currently out in the USA preparing for the Netherlands’ 2026 World Cup campaign.

Brighton have their valuation of the defender – who turned 26 on Monday – which has been reported to be around the £70million mark, and they are notoriously hard to bargain with, sticking by their price tags. However, van Hecke only has one year left on his current contract at the Amex Stadium, with Spurs hoping to secure a cheaper deal for the player.

The one thing that could work in their favour is that van Hecke wants to make the move to north London. He is pushing hard to reunite with his former boss Roberto De Zerbi.

GMS sources close to the deal believe an agreement between the two clubs will ultimately be reached.

Iran World Cup Stars Arrive in the US With ‘168’ Pinned to Shirts

While the obvious focus of the 2026 World Cup will be on the football, it’s undeniable that there will be an ongoing political subtext surrounding the tournament. That’s nothing new to the sport, as it was very much present at Qatar 2022, and in many prior editions of the competition.

While there are many issues to contend with this summer, perhaps the most prominent one will be the ongoing Iranian conflict with the United States, one of the three co-hosts alongside Mexico and Canada. It was unclear if Iran would even be willing or able to play at the World Cup, but after months of uncertainty, they arrived in Mexico this week.

Iran Arrive For World Cup With 168 on Shirts

The squad was initially set to train in Tucson, Arizona, but amid the political unease, their base camp will be in Tijuana, Mexico. Iran’s players will not be able to avoid coming into the US, however, as they face group games against New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, before heading to Seattle to face Egypt. That said, reports suggest the US government will demand that Iran leave the country on the same day that they arrive.

Having arrived in North America this week, the Iranian team immediately set about sending a strong political message to Donald Trump’s United States. Indeed, as reported by Catalan news outlet Ara, the players were spotted wearing pins on their clothing which bore the number 168.

This is a direct reference to, and is done in memory of, the 168 girls who died in the American bombing of the Minab school on 28 February.

A statement from UNICEF condemned the bombings at the time, as they confirmed that the attack took place while classes at the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in southern Iran were in progress:

“Among the casualties are 168 girls killed when a strike hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in Minab, in southern Iran, on 28 February, while classes were in session. Reports indicate that the majority of those killed were schoolchildren aged between 7 and 12. In addition, 12 children were killed in other schools across five different locations in Iran.

“These child casualties are a stark reminder of the brutality of war and violence on children, which impacts families and communities for generations. Children and schools are protected under International Humanitarian Law and must be places of safety.”

As per the BBC, five former US officials, including a former top military lawyer, then criticised the Pentagon for not acknowledging potential American involvement in the deadly strike. President Trump said on 7 March that in his “opinion” Iran was to blame for the Minab strike, without providing evidence.

Iranian Squad Departed For World Cup Amid Chants of ‘Death to America’

Iran's Mehdi Torabi and Alireza Jahanbakhsh poses with teammates and fans as they depart from Turkey to Mexico ahead of the World Cup

The Iranian squad departed for Mexico from Tehran and were given a state farewell ceremony, in which they were seen off with Hezbollah flags and anti-US chants. Reports claim that the crowd even chanted: ‘Death to America’.

The ill-feeling on the sports side of things will not be helped by claims that the US have very difficulty for key staff members to get visas to enter the country. Iranian Football Federation Mehdi Taj, for example, was denied entry to Canada two weeks ago when he attempted to attend the FIFA Congress in Vancouver and is among the staff members whose visa applications were rejected ahead of arriving with the team this week.

When the tournament begins, there is a clear path which could lead the two nations to come up against each other. Should Iran and the USMNT finish second in their respective groups, they will go head-to-head in the round of 32 on 3 July in Arlington, Texas.
