Ebonyi: APC will clear all elective positions in 2027 – Emegha

Published

on

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State, has said it will clear all the elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

The party which described the opposition as scavengers looking for money to grab, said it remains a formidable force with credible candidates that will win all the positions.

Chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha stated this in Abakaliki, the state capital while speaking with reporters on Monday.

He opined that some of those contesting election in opposition parties were given tickets in the APC during the 2023 general election but failed woefully, arguing that they will still be defeated in 2027 as they are running under the opposition

“If my mind is made up in anything, it is made up. APC will win the 2027 general election in Ebonyi very comfortably.

“All the people making noise saying they are contesting in other parties were given APC tickets before and they contested and lost.

“You contested election in the ruling party and lost. And now you want to go and try in opposition. They are all scavengers and what they are looking for is the money that will drop for their ambition. None of them is serious.

“We now have credible candidates for the next general election,” he stated.

On the insinuation in some quarters that some candidates of the APC for the general election have been dropped, Emegha urged the general public to disregard the propaganda and rumours.

He disclosed that the candidates remain those declared by the committees that conducted the party’s primaries who were sent from the national secretariat of the party.

“It is solely the responsibility of the party to write and forward cleared candidates of a party to INEC and I have done that.

“The state met severally and agreed on the candidates to file for the general election and we filed those candidates.

“The governor who is the leader of the party had a meeting with stakeholders of the state and people like Chief Martin Elechi were in the meeting till 10:00 pm in the night and the stakeholders agreed on candidates that will contest the election.

“That day was the final day it was concluded. So, very soon, the national secretariat will publish candidates of our party.

“If you had listened very well on the radio, you have heard the names of those that I, the state chairman of APC, congratulated for emerging candidates of our great party.

“If you were following up our party activities including the primaries, you would have seen that the committee that came to conduct our primaries declared all the results of APC primaries here in the state and it was done on camera. So, nothing changes it,” Emegha added.

2027: Obasanjo secretly working to advance Tinubu’s second term – Yoruba Ronu alleges

Published

Fresh controversy has emerged over former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s political stance ahead of the 2027 general election.

There are also conflicting claims over whether he is backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or supporting the opposition alliance led by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, YRLF, on Sunday accused Obasanjo of secretly working to advance Tinubu’s second term ambition while publicly presenting himself as a supporter of opposition efforts.

In a statement signed by its president, Akin Malaolu, the group alleged that Obasanjo’s recent interventions on national politics were aimed at weakening opposition forces.

It cited the former president’s recent letter to ex-Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, in which Obasanjo alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar supported an impeachment plot against him during his tenure in office.

According to the forum, the allegations against Atiku amounted to an indirect attack on opposition parties and could undermine ongoing coalition building efforts ahead of the 2027 election.

The group also criticised Obasanjo for mentioning the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, in the controversy, noting that he was no longer alive to respond to the claims.

YRLF further alleged that Obasanjo’s public support for the emerging Obi-Kwankwaso alliance was being used to conceal an underlying preference for Tinubu’s re-election.

It claimed that the former president played a key role in discussions that led to the formation of the opposition coalition and strongly backed Obi’s emergence as its presidential candidate.

However, Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, Dr Akin Osuntokun, dismissed the allegations as unfounded.

Speaking on ARISE Television, Osuntokun insisted that Obasanjo was, in fact, one of the principal architects of the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

“If you can say that Obasanjo is supporting any ticket, it is the Peter Obi–Kwankwaso ticket,” Osuntokun said, describing claims of secret support for Tinubu as “absolute bunkum.”

He maintained that Obasanjo personally facilitated discussions between Obi and Kwankwaso and played a central role in bringing the alliance together.

According to Osuntokun, the former president leveraged his close relationship with both politicians to broker the partnership, which he believes has the potential to significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

He also revealed that talks about a possible Obi-Kwankwaso alliance had been ongoing for years, suggesting that a similar arrangement could have materialised before the 2023 election.

The debate comes amid heightened political realignments ahead of 2027 and follows renewed tensions between Obasanjo and Atiku over allegations surrounding attempts to remove the former president from office during his administration.

Atiku has denied the allegations, maintaining that his opposition to Obasanjo’s failed third term agenda remains one of the defining moments of Nigeria’s democratic history.

Adamawa ADC members protest alleged plans to remove guber candidate

A group of members of the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took to the streets on Monday to protest an alleged plot to replace the party’s governorship candidate, Omar Suleiman.

Monday’s protest, organised by the Adamawa Forward Political Organisation, was the second over the same matter in less than a week, following a similar demonstration by another group under the auspices of Frontier Movement 774 last Wednesday, July 22.

The protesters, who alleged that those scheming to displace the duly elected party candidate had not relented, warned that they would take their opposition to the alleged plot beyond street protests.

The Secretary of the Adamawa Forward Political Organisation, Joshua Buba, who spoke to journalists covering the protest and claimed that the plot was being perfected at the national level in Abuja, asserted that the plan would fail.

He said, “We warn all those planning replacement to back out. We won’t take it because we can’t see how anyone who never obtained a nomination form, let alone take part in any primary, would become our candidate.”

Asked about linking the alleged candidate replacement plot to Abuja, Buba said, “We know it’s all an Abuja thing, nobody is into such treachery here; but this protest is only a warning. Anyone who goes from here to Abuja to be a part of it should not return to Adamawa. If they think they can bargain our future, they will find how wrong they are.”

As with the previous protest, none of the Monday protesters accused the party’s leader and son of the soil, Atiku Abubakar, of being complicit. This is perceived to be because of the high regard in which the party’s presidential flag bearer is held, despite accusations by some individuals that Atiku is behind the alleged plot against the Adamawa governorship candidate.

Those who hold this view often point to the fact that the embattled candidate, Omar Suleiman, popularly known as Omarana, was sponsored for the ticket by the party’s former National Vice-Chairman for the North East, Babachir Lawal, who had been at loggerheads with Atiku before leaving the party earlier this year.

The allegations against Atiku have continued, despite efforts by his camp last week to absolve him following the pro-Omarana protest.

Atiku’s camp, describing the claims as entirely false and baseless, said the former vice-president respects internal party democracy.

Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shaibu, stressed that Atiku never convened any meeting or directed any candidate replacement.
