APC risks defeat in Abia if primary crisis persists — Founding member, Esiaga
A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Mezie Chiekwe Esiaga, has cautioned his party to resolve the crisis arising from its governorship primary in Abia State or risk a major defeat in 2027.
Esiaga, who was speaking on the chances of his party in the 2027 polls, alleged that Eric Opah, who won the APC governorship ticket, was imposed on members by the party’s state leadership.
He further alleged that the process that produced Eric Opah as the party’s candidate in May 2026 lacked credibility, claiming that several APC members may not work for the party’s victory in 2027 if the current candidate’s name appears on the ballot.
According to him, the governorship primary was won by the former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh, and not by Eric Opah.
He warned that a major defeat awaits the APC in Abia in 2027 if the ticket is not returned to the former minister.
Responding to Esiaga’s claims, the APC Publicity Secretary in Abia State, Uche Aguoru, said the emergence of a candidate comes through a party primary election, not propaganda.
Aguoru, who advised Esiaga to wait for the APC National Working Committee to release the full list of candidates, also dismissed his prediction of an APC defeat in Abia.
The publicity secretary further denied allegations that Eric Opah was only a two-week-old member of the party before emerging as the APC governorship candidate.

‘Injury to one injury to all’ – NDC condemns court order deregistering ADC, others
The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has condemned the order of the Federal High Court in Abuja deregistering the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and other opposition political parties.
In a statement on Monday, the party called on every Nigerian to stand up in solidarity and condemn the court order.
According to the party, an injury to one is an injury to all.
Recall that Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately deregister the ADC, Accord Party and others from participating in the 2027 general elections.
Reacting, the NDC said “The court order must be condemned by all and sundry. An injury to one is an injury to all.
“We stand in solidarity with these opposition parties and call on every Nigerian to resist the attempt by the rudderless APC to drift our nation into a one-party state.

We know those behind court order that deregistered ADC – Party spokesman
The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, says they know the people responsible for the court order that deregistered the ADC and other political parties.
Abdullahi made this statement on Monday when he featured in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
He was reacting to the court order which instructed the deregistration of the ADC, Accord Party and others from participating in the 2027 general elections.
“We know the person behind the Federal High Court judgment that deregistered the ADC. The person or the individual who is championing this, works in the office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
“He’s a former House of Representatives member from the South-East. His name is there. They are not hiding.
“Secondly, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who was the second defendant in the case a few days ago, suddenly emerged as a plaintiff. What an absurdity! In a case that you are a defendant, then suddenly you woke up and became a plaintiff?
“Then the question that we ask him is, what is the injury that these individuals who call themselves former legislative forum will suffer if ADC and these other parties contest election in 2027? Of course, maybe the breakfast they are enjoying will come to an end,” he said.

Deregistration: Accord rejects court order to INEC, reveals next action ahead of Osun guber
Accord has has rejected the court order to de-register it and assured its members, candidates and supporters that it will be on the ballot in the upcoming elections.
Accord said it will appeal the court judgement in order to save the nation’s democracy.
Accord said that the judgement was delivered in flagrant disregard of the subsisting Court of Appeal stay of proceedings order on the matter.
In a statement signed by Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, its National Chairman, the party said that “It is curious that the Federal High Court would proceed to deliver judgement on a matter before the appellant court that had granted a stay of proceedings aware that the delivery of the judgement was part of the proceedings of the Court. The court is the temple of justice governed by the rule of law and due process, not fiat.”
It said that accordingly, “Accord will challenge the contentious judgement hurriedly delivered in disobedience of the appellant court order. The party’s legal team has commenced action to overturn the ruling.
Accord said it is “not affected in the suit filed by the so-called National Forum of Former Legislators as the party won two councillorship elections in Jigawa State which fulfilled extant constitutional and electoral frameworks.”
Accord assured its members, candidates and supporters that the party will be on ballot in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, and the 2027 generals election.
The party said it will continue its preparation for the upcoming elections, particularly the flag off of the Imole campaign scheduled for Tuesday, 16th June 2026, in Osun State, adding that the attempt to distract its great party by anti-democratic and reactionary forces has failed once again and will continue to fail.
