Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has concluded search, rescue and recovery operations at the site of the collapsed two-storey building near Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town, rescuing 27 persons alive while recovering nine bodies from the debris.

The building reportedly collapsed around 12:47 p.m. on Thursday in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos.

In a statement issued on Friday by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Afolabi Olawale, LASEMA said emergency response teams were immediately mobilised to the scene following distress alerts.

According to the agency, its Sharks Response Team from the Lekki Base and the Alpha Cobra Squad from Onipanu arrived at the location within 40 minutes alongside other emergency responders.

Agencies involved in the operation included the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, LNSC, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Red Cross and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC.

LASEMA disclosed that all 27 rescued victims received immediate medical attention from LASAMBUS officials before being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The agency stated that the fatalities included four adults confirmed dead before rescuers arrived at the scene, while five additional victims, among them a two-year-old girl, were later recovered during the operation.

According to the statement, the remains of the deceased were handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for identification and release to their relatives.

LASEMA added that its heavy-duty excavator worked alongside two excavators deployed by CCECC, enabling rescue workers to gain access to trapped victims and complete the operation safely.

The agency confirmed that rescue efforts ended around 4:00 a.m. on Friday after emergency responders successfully reached ground zero.

It further disclosed that the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, supervised the operation throughout the exercise.

LASEMA said Babajide Sanwo-Olu had directed LASBCA to immediately conduct integrity tests on adjoining buildings and ensure strict compliance with building regulations within the area.

The agency expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and wished those injured speedy recovery.

It also urged residents to promptly report distressed structures to LASBCA or through LASEMA’s emergency toll-free lines, 112 and 767, to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

A resident of the Kawel village in Mushere Chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State that came under attack by suspected Fulani bandits on Sunday, June 21, 2026, has recounted how the attackers invaded the community’s Primary Health Centre and killed his younger sister, who was in the labour room.

The grieving man, Daniel Nanle, narrated the incident to Plateau State Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, who paid a condolence visit to the community on Thursday.

He said his pregnant younger sister, Larai Danjuma, had gone into labour earlier that night and was rushed to the Health Center, where she was taken into the labour room in preparation for her expected delivery.

However, Nanle said the joy of the family was cut short when the terrorists invaded the facility and killed her, alongside other patients and health workers.

While narrating the ordeal to the Deputy Governor, Nanle said his sister was taken to the labour room to deliver, but the gunmen attacked the room and killed her alongside other patients and health workers. 

“My immediate younger sister, Larai Danjuma, was married to Mr. Danjuma Damial. She was taken to the hospital because she was due for delivery. Unfortunately, the attackers came and killed her in the labour room,” he said.

The bereaved Nanle further appealed to the state government and security agencies to take urgent action to prevent further occurrences of such attacks.

“I am appealing to the state government, the federal government, and security agencies to intervene,” he added.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued three kidnap victims and launched a search operation for two others abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Jos–Zaria Road in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The development was disclosed in a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the incident occurred at about 9:05pm. on June 24, 2026, around the Mista Ali area after security personnel received a distress report of suspected kidnapping activities along the highway.

Makama said security operatives responded immediately to the scene, forcing the suspected kidnappers to flee.

The report identified the three rescued victims as Osuji Franklin, Danjuma Moses and Irimiya Shehu, noting that they sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident.

“The security personnel responded swiftly to the distress call, forcing the armed kidnappers to flee the scene,” he said.

According to the report, preliminary findings indicated that the suspected kidnappers had already taken away two other victims, identified as Dayo and Henry Owen, before security personnel arrived.

The rescued victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Mista Ali, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Makama also disclosed that security operatives recovered an abandoned Opel Zafira vehicle with registration number RYM 25 A2 at the scene.

The report added that security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and rescue the two remaining victims.
