Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled an ISWAP roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles reportedly seized by the insurgents.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Headquarters, Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai and signed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, on June 25, 2026.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out on June 24, 2026, by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai.

The military said troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected suspected terrorists blocking the highway through surveillance cameras, prompting the immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force to the area.

Following the operation, the troops rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles that had allegedly been seized by the terrorists.

The military added that troops subsequently cleared the suspected withdrawal route of the insurgents and conducted further searches in the area, although no additional contact was made.

According to the statement, all rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other properties were safely evacuated to Buratai town, while the rescued victims are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for what it described as their professionalism and swift response during the operation.

“The Theatre Command OPHK commends the professionalism and swift response of the troops,” the statement said.

The military also urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information on suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

Ilobu killing: Family petitions IGP, seeks arrest of eight suspects

Published

Family of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, demanding the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of eight individuals alleged to have been involved in the fatal shooting of a teenager in Ilobu, Osun State.

The petition, dated June 23, 2026, was submitted through the family’s solicitors, Law Corridor, following the killing of the teenager during a shooting incident on Sunday, June 21 in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area.

According to the petition, Kareem Saheed, popularly known as “Tanfeani”, was named as the principal suspect alongside Ganiyu Habeeb Olaide, Alani Odedowo, Yekini Ismaila, also known as “Ayan”, Afeez Abass, alias “SS”, Adejumo Habeeb, alias “Jama”, Afeez Yekini, alias “Feleru”, and Oyeladun Muideen, also known as “Akilapa Okinin”.

The petition followed widespread concern over the teenager’s death after he was reportedly struck by a stray bullet when armed men allegedly opened fire near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu.

Eyewitnesses had earlier alleged that the attackers advanced towards a palm wine joint opposite the council secretariat and opened fire after spotting a man wearing a cap bearing the colours of a political party.

The deceased, whose mother reportedly owned the palm wine joint, was said not to have been the intended target of the attack.

In the petition, the solicitors stated that the family, eyewitnesses and other members of the community identified the named suspects as individuals who allegedly participated in the attack.

“Our clients have informed us that following the incident, they, other eyewitnesses and members of the community identified the above-named persons as individuals alleged to have participated in the attack which resulted in the death of the deceased,” the petition stated.

The lawyers added, “Our clients have also provided us with photographs of the identified suspects together with other materials which they believe will assist the Nigeria Police Force in its investigation.”

The petition urged the Inspector-General of Police to commence a “comprehensive, impartial and professional criminal investigation into the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

The solicitors stated that the killing had left the family “devastated and has equally shaken the conscience of the people of Osun State. Delays in arresting the suspects could jeopardise evidence and expose witnesses to intimidation.”

The Osun State Police Command had earlier confirmed that the teenager died after being struck by a bullet during the shooting, while another victim sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police also disclosed that the alleged leader of the attackers and other suspects remained at large, with efforts continuing to apprehend them.

According to the statement, the remains of the deceased were handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for identification and release to their relatives.

LASEMA added that its heavy-duty excavator worked alongside two excavators deployed by CCECC, enabling rescue workers to gain access to trapped victims and complete the operation safely.

A resident of the Kawel village in Mushere Chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State that came under attack by suspected Fulani bandits on Sunday, June 21, 2026, has recounted how the attackers invaded the community’s Primary Health Centre and killed his younger sister, who was in the labour room.

The grieving man, Daniel Nanle, narrated the incident to Plateau State Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, who paid a condolence visit to the community on Thursday.

He said his pregnant younger sister, Larai Danjuma, had gone into labour earlier that night and was rushed to the Health Center, where she was taken into the labour room in preparation for her expected delivery.

However, Nanle said the joy of the family was cut short when the terrorists invaded the facility and killed her, alongside other patients and health workers.

While narrating the ordeal to the Deputy Governor, Nanle said his sister was taken to the labour room to deliver, but the gunmen attacked the room and killed her alongside other patients and health workers.

“My immediate younger sister, Larai Danjuma, was married to Mr. Danjuma Damial. She was taken to the hospital because she was due for delivery. Unfortunately, the attackers came and killed her in the labour room,” he said.

The bereaved Nanle further appealed to the state government and security agencies to take urgent action to prevent further occurrences of such attacks.

“I am appealing to the state government, the federal government, and security agencies to intervene,” he added.
