Police foil robbery attack in Uyo, arrest suspect

Operatives of Akwa Ibom State Police Command over the weekend foiled a robbery operation at Ikot Okubo village in Uyo Local Government Area, arrested one suspect and recovered locally fabricated firearm.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Timfon John, in a statement in Uyo on Monday said the intervention was made following a distress call from a concerned resident of the area.

“On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., operatives of the Command deployed on stop-and-search duty along Mayflower axis of Oron Road, Uyo, swiftly responded to a distress call from a concerned resident of Ikot Okubo Village, Uyo Local Government Area, reporting that suspected armed robbers were actively operating within the community.

“Acting promptly on the information, the police operatives mobilized to the scene where they collaborated with vigilant members of the community youth to cordon off and comb the affected area.

“The coordinated operation led to the arrest of one suspect identified as Edidiong Udoeyen, while a medium-sized locally fabricated firearm was recovered from his possession,” the police spokesperson said.

John stated that other members of the criminal gang fled the scene upon sighting the police, adding that the Command has immediately launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.

She stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohhammed Azare, while commending the courage, vigilance, and timely intervention of members of the community, pledged readiness to protect lives and property while ridding the state of all forms of crimes and criminality.

Navy rescues building collapse victims in Lagos

The Nigerian Navy has rescued victims trapped in a building that collapsed in Alakija area of Lagos State.

This is contained in a statement on Monday in Abuja, by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho.

Folorunsho said that following a distress call about the incident, the Navy swiftly mobilised to the scene and joined other emergency responders.

He said that through prompt response, professionalism and dedication, several victims were successfully rescued from the debris and evacuated for urgent medical attention.

He added that the rescued victims were immediately transported to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, where they received emergency medical treatment and ongoing care from the hospital’s medical personnel.

“The Nigerian navy remains committed to ensuring that those affected receive the necessary medical support,” he said.

The director of naval information quoted the Chief of Naval Staff, CNS, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas as commending the courage and professionalism displayed by the rescue team and the medical personnel of the navy hospital.

Abbas also appreciated the cooperation of other emergency response agencies and members of the public whose collective efforts contributed to the successful rescue operation.

He extended the navy’s heartfelt sympathy to the families of those affected by the unfortunate incident and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

The CNS further reassured Nigerians of the Navy’s continued readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and aid to civil authorities whenever called upon in line with its constitutional responsibilities.

BREAKING: Bandits kill teacher, abduct students writing NECO exam in Borno

Gunmen believed to be bandits have abducted an unspecified number of students from the Government Day Secondary School in Lassa town, located in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The criminals attacked the community on Monday morning while the students were writing the Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, organized by the National Examinations Council, NECO.

One teacher was shot dead during the incident and another sustained injuries.

Residents who confirmed the development to journalists alleged that Nigerian military troops stationed in the area had left on a patrol to Uba, a nearby approximately 16 kilometers away, just before the bandits struck.

“The soldiers were not around when the terrorists invaded. They came in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic everywhere.

“They took away students writing NECO and their teachers,” one of the residents said.

Spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident and acknowledged that several students are still missing following the raid.

Police rescue four abducted minors from suspected kidnappers in Yobe

Yobe State Police Command has rescued four young girls from an attempted kidnapping in Fika Local Government Area, with the Commissioner of Police pledging to track down the fleeing members of the criminal gang.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 28th June, 2026, at about 2:23 p.m. when unidentified gunmen attacked Didim Village, Fika, and abducted four young females aged between 15 and 17 years.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

According to the statement, Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting that unidentified persons attacked and abducted four young females at Didim Village, Fika Area.

“Police operatives attached to Kukar Gadu Outstation, working with local vigilantes, immediately mobilised for a rescue mission.

“Reinforcement from the Division was later deployed, leading to the release of all four victims unhurt.

“The rescued victims were immediately taken to Kukar Gadu Primary Health Care Centre for medical examination and necessary support before being reunited with their families,” the statement said.

The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed sustained and intelligence-led operations to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.” the statement added.

The command through the PPRO called on members of the public to continue to provide the police with credible and timely information on suspicious persons, movements, or vehicles for necessary action.
