Two policemen attached to the Imo State Police Command have been confirmed dead following a road accident involving seven operatives along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

The Imo State Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident that led to the fatalities.

According to Okoye, the accident occurred on Monday, June 29, while the seven police operatives were on the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

He said the command had commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident, adding that the two deceased operatives died while receiving medical treatment, while the other five personnel are still in hospital.

He expressed the sympathy of the State Police Commissioner, Audu Bosso, to the families of the deceased operatives and prayed for the repose of their souls.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road traffic accident involving seven personnel of the Command who were on official duty on 29th June, 2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

“Regrettably, two of the officers later succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the other injured personnel are currently undergoing treatment. The Commissioner of Police has directed that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the injured officers to aid their recovery,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of the injured personnel and assured their families of the Command’s unwavering support during this difficult period, reaffirming that the welfare of officers and men remains a priority of the Command.

A Magistrate’s Court in Bauchi State has convicted two men of conspiracy, criminal trespass, housebreaking and theft after they were prosecuted by the Bauchi State Police Command for their involvement in a burglary in Liman Katagum, Bauchi Local Government Area.

The conviction was announced in a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the police, the case began after a resident of Bandan Village reported to the Liman Katagum Police Division on June 27, 2026, that his house had been broken into several weeks earlier.

The convicts, identified as 28-year-old Iliyasu Musa and Ibrahim Isah, both from Baluwa Village, were accused of working together to force their way into the residence and steal several personal belongings.

Items stolen during the incident included two Android phones, two keypad phones, a power bank, N20,000 in cash, two T-shirts and a wristwatch. Police estimated the value of the stolen property at about N244,000.

SP Habib said detectives traced and arrested the suspects during the investigation. He added that both men admitted their roles in the crime before they were arraigned.

“Following preliminary investigations, the two suspects were arrested. They confessed to the offence during interrogation and were subsequently charged to court, where they were convicted,” the police spokesperson said.

Reacting to the outcome of the case, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised the Divisional Police Officer and the investigating team for their professionalism.

Indian authorities have arrested three Nigerian nationals over their alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking operation, seizing narcotics valued at an estimated ₹23 crore.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Anti-Narcotic Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) following separate operations in the country, according to The New Indian Express.

The suspects were identified as Ambemo Victor, 37, Chime Moses, 36, and Karikari Ames, 33.

Investigators alleged that the trio entered India on medical and tourist visas before becoming involved in the illegal drug trade.

Police said intelligence reports led officers to a residence within the Madanayakanahalli police jurisdiction, where the suspects were apprehended.

During the operation, authorities reportedly recovered 10.27 kilograms of MDMA crystals and 2.044 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis, with the seized narcotics estimated to be worth about ₹23 crore.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly obtained the drugs from another Nigerian national believed to be operating from Delhi.

“The Anti-Narcotic Wing of the CCB arrested four persons, including three Nigerian nationals, in connection with two drug trafficking cases in the city,” the report stated.

Authorities added that preliminary investigations indicate the suspects entered India legally before allegedly engaging in narcotics distribution.

The latest arrests come just weeks after Indian law enforcement agencies detained four other Nigerian nationals over separate allegations involving fraud and identity-related offences.

In May, police in Gurugram arrested three Nigerians, identified as Chinedu, Sunday and Jules, for allegedly operating an online scam in which they impersonated women on social media platforms to defraud victims.

In a separate operation, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force also arrested another Nigerian national, identified as Uchenwa, 49, over alleged cybercrime-related offences.

Police had reportedly recovered 19 mobile phones, a laptop, and 18 Indian and international SIM cards during the earlier investigation.
