Jude Bellingham Aims Dig at Thomas Tuchel in Second Fiery Interview
It was a tight game, but England just about had enough in them to get across the line against Norway. Two goals from Jude Bellingham sent the Three Lions into the World Cup semi-finals, as they won the match 2-1.
A freakish goal allowed their opponents to take a first-half lead when Andreas Schjelderup’s cross looped over Jordan Pickford’s head. Just before the break, Bellingham then levelled the score, although his goal came in controversial fashion, with the ball appearing to hit a TV camera during the build-up.
The second half passed with more drama as Norway’s Torbjorn Heggem had a goal ruled out when VAR spotted a push by Erling Haaland, but just three minutes into extra-time Bellingham popped up with his second. Morgan Rogers’ strike was spilt by goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, allowing the midfielder to steal in for the winner.
It was a tough game, and Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy with his team. However, his response has not gone down well with Bellingham.
Thomas Tuchel Unhappy After England 2-1 Norway
Speaking to the press immediately after the win, Tuchel made it clear that he wasn’t satisfied with the performance, despite obviously being delighted to have made it to the World Cup semi-finals. He told the media: “We made life very difficult for ourselves. The result is fantastic, it’s amazing, but we are not happy with the performance.”
When pushed for more details, the German explained, “In every sense. Sloppy, a lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough: we were lucky today.” He was also quoted as saying:
“I am not happy. The way we played was sloppy, we did a lot of technical mistakes. It is nothing to do with mentality. We need to play better…”
His comments appear to have irked Bellingham. Speaking to ITV, the Real Madrid star seemed pretty dismissive of Tuchel’s criticisms, as he shot back: “Whatever. It’s difficult out there. A tough shift. Character, perseverance: when things weren’t working, we found a way to win a game. We gave it everything we’ve got. So proud of this team.”
While some might put the tension down to high emotions in the heat of the moment, he doubled down on his stance when talking to BBC Sport in another interview. Bellingham was asked, “Thomas has just been quite critical of the performance, does that just show the standards he expects?” The midfielder shot back:
“Maybe, but maybe he doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those kind of conditions against Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, Antonio Nusa, Alexander Sorloth… You know, that’s not an easy team to play against.
“We’ve tried to create a positive environment, we should continue that going into the final four. I can’t speak highly enough of the lads. You’re not going to win every game popping the ball and making a thousand passes. Sometimes you have to win dirty, and we’ve done that again tonight.”
Bellingham certainly didn’t pull any punches as he appeared to suggest Tuchel should have been more ‘positive’ with his post-game reaction. It will certainly be interesting to see how the German now repsonds to this criticism from one of his own key players.
For now, though, both men will just be relieved to have made it into the semi-finals.

Islam Makhachev’s Tweet After Conor McGregor Lost to Max Holloway
It didn’t take long for Islam Makhachev to react publicly to Conor McGregor‘s shocking loss to Max Holloway through injury in the very first round, punctuating a spectacularly abysmal comeback following five years away from the UFC Octagon.
It all went down atop the UFC 329 card which took place on Saturday, the 11th of July, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The numbered event, which aired on Paramount+ in the United States, featured numerous notable results, including Paddy Pimblett sleeping Benoit Saint Denis with a Peruvian necktie, Gable Steveson’s first-round finish on his UFC debut, and Robert Whittaker’s jaw-breaking win over Nikita Kryslov.
But despite the succession of dramatic fights and brutal finishes, what transpired in the McGregor vs Holloway showdown is what will likely overshadow the event as a whole. And Makhachev is one of many UFC fighters who commented on the 69-second loss through technical knockout.
Islam Makhachev Reacts to Conor McGregor’s TKO Loss
In the fight, McGregor landed only five strikes from a total of 11, compared to Holloway’s 14 landed from 22. Many of McGregor’s though, resulted in slips as he couldn’t keep himself standing. The referee appeared to give McGregor the benefit of the doubt, with Holloway even gesturing to the ref, concerned, that as McGregor couldn’t exactly defend himself, the fight should be canned.
Eventually, Mike Beltran did wave it all off, and even thanked Holloway for encouraging him to do so. McGregor, meanwhile, hobbled out of the arena after declining an in-Octagon interview with UFC commentator and podcaster, Joe Rogan.
Now, Makhachev has had his say by posting the following five words on X.
“Conor beat Conor congrats Max.”
At the time of writing, which was only one hour after Makhachev sent the five-word response, it had already been viewed 1.1 million times, with 39,000 likes.
Though Holloway indicated a willingness to run it back for a third time, the crowd did not seem as enthused and chose, instead, to voice their dissatisfaction. It is unlikely McGregor will be fighting fit anytime soon because if, as feared, he has really blown his ACL, then he could be sidelined for 12 to 18 months, meaning Holloway will likely move on to other challenges, instead.

Excruciating Moment Conor McGregor Blew His Leg Out vs Max Holloway
The long-awaited comeback of UFC legend Conor McGregor ended in disastrous fashion on Saturday night.
The Irish superstar appeared to blow his right knee out while throwing his very strike against Max Holloway at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The former two-division champion was returning to the Octagon for the first time since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
Now 37 years old, there was considerable doubt that ‘The Notorious’ would be able to turn the clock back inside the cage, but nobody expected his comeback fight to end so swiftly.
Conor McGregor Sustains Serious Injury at UFC 329
McGregor came out of his corner looking to make a fast start and leaped into the air in order to try and land a jumping roundhouse kick. However, as he landed on the mat, his right leg gave way. Slow-motion replays showed his foot shifting to the side as he made contact with the mat.
From that point on, Conor couldn’t put any weight on his right leg. He bravely attempted to continue in the bout, but kept falling down whenever he tried to throw a strike.
Holloway immediately realised that something was wrong and tried to alert the referee to the fact that McGregor was badly injured. The official gave the returning star every chance to continue in the bout.
However, the damage was already done and the fight was waved off after just 69 seconds, with Max picking up a TKO victory to avenge his August 2013 loss to McGregor.
Holloway Wants Third Fight With McGregor
In his post-fight interview, ‘Blessed’ pushed the idea of the pair meeting in a trilogy fight to decide their rivalry. It remains to be seen, though, whether McGregor will ever compete again.
The defeated fighter was clearly devastated at the outcome and left the Octagon before speaking to Joe Rogan after the fight.
If he is to return to action, McGregor likely faces an extended period of rehabilitation before he is even able to start training again. Having already battled back from one serious leg injury, few would blame him if he wanted to hang up his gloves.

Breel Embolo Sent Off vs Argentina Due to New FIFA Rule
Breel Embolo played his final part at the 2026 World Cup as the striker was shown a second yellow card in controversial circumstances in Switzerland’s clash with Argentina.
The Rennes forward had already been booked in the first half for a foul on Leandro Paredes before getting involved with the same player in the second period, eventually receiving his marching orders as a new FIFA rule came into play.
Switzerland had battled back to equalise through Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye after Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister had headed Argentina into the lead. It’s the second game in a row where Lionel Scaloni’s men have been on the right side of a huge VAR call.
Embolo Falls Victim to Newly Introduced World Cup Rule
After a highly controversial Round of 16 win against Egypt, who claimed the competition had been ‘fixed’ in their favour, Argentina continued to benefit from VAR interventions.
Embolo and Paredes went into a challenge, and it was the man in blue and white who was originally penalised and shown a yellow card. However, replays showed Embolo was the one to initiate any slight contact there had been between the two men.
That prompted VAR to get involved and recommend an on-field review under the newly introduced ‘mistaken identity’ law. VAR couldn’t previously overturn yellow cards, but have been given the opportunity to do so at the World Cup.
When it became apparent the Swiss No.7 initiated contact and simulated his fall, the referee overruled his earlier decision and instead showed him a second yellow. The attacker had to be dragged off the pitch in tears as he tried to plead his case to the official. Watch the incident below.
Rio Ferdinand Reacts to ‘Crazy Scenes’
IFAB rules were changed ahead of this summer’s competition, and now state: “When the referee shows a yellow or red card but has clearly penalised the wrong player of either team for the offence in question, the offence itself cannot be reviewed except in the context of mistaken identity.”
This was seen earlier in the tournament involving the USA’s Tim Ream and Miguel Almiron of Paraguay. Still, Rio Ferdinand clearly hadn’t caught that match, as he posted on X: “What… never seen that happen before? Crazy scenes.”
