Man Utd Eye ‘Elite’ £100M World Cup Star After Ederson U-Turn

Published

on

A decision to pull the plug on a deal for Ederson has led Manchester United to explore alternatives as they seek to overhaul Michael Carrick’s midfield.

Ederson had been set to join United in a £39 million deal after reaching an agreement with Atalanta back in May. As time passed, uncertainty grew over where the transfer stood, and the club have now decided against signing the Brazilian.

It appears that issues during medical assessments led the Red Devils to opt out of finalising the 27-year-old’s capture. The transfer chiefs appeared to pivot quickly and swooped for Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a £50 million deal.

The 22-year-old won’t be the only midfielder to arrive at Old Trafford, though, as a marquee signing is anticipated. One of the names on their shortlist has more than caught the eye during the World Cup.

Man Utd Turn to Bouaddi After Ederson Deal Collapses

United are looking elsewhere and are admirers of Morocco’s breakout star Ayyoub Bouaddi. A report from Eduardo Burgos claims that the club have been “following him since the start of the season and the World Cup.”

Bouaddi’s stock has grown amid a superb campaign in North America with his country, showcasing why he’s in such high demand. At just 18, he played with maturity and starred in games against Brazil (1-1 draw) and the Netherlands (3-2 penalty shootout win).

The club need to replace Casemiro, who has left following the expiration of his contract. They have missed out on top targets with Elliot Anderson joining Manchester City for £116m and Mateus Fernandes heading to Tottenham Hotspur for £85m.

Bouaddi is a press-resistant midfielder who can play as a six or an eight. His six-foot-one-inch frame gives him a physical profile, but he’s extremely gifted on the ball and ticks plenty of boxes for Carrick.

Why Bouaddi Should be Man Utd’s Top Choice

Bouaddi might not be a marquee name per se, but he is undoubtedly one of the most promising midfielders in Europe. Currently at LOSC Lille, he’s believed to have some of Europe’s biggest clubs chasing his signature.

Liverpool are reportedly also eyeing the Moroccan, and a £100 million fee might be required. But he has been heralded as an ‘elite’ talent ready to make the move to a European giant.

United are looking to sign two new midfielders alongside Santos and Bouaddi is ideal to help with overhauling Carrick’s midfield. He could be a long-term fixture in the middle of the park and be a perfect partner for Kobbie Mainoo.

The report claims that Manu Kone and Alex Scott are also on the Reds’ wishlist and are viewed as alternatives to Ederson. If it comes down to a choice between the trio, Bouaddi is probably the most exciting option.

Newcastle Plotting Ambitious Move to Sign £250,000-a-Week Attacker

A new attacker is expected to arrive at Newcastle United this summer and Eddie Howe’s transfer chiefs could turn to one of their Premier League rivals.

It’s been a problematic start to the transfer window for the Magpies after selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for £100 million. Their other midfield star, Bruno Guimaraes, is pushing for a move to Arsenal, and talks are set to take place.

Newcastle were expected to react to a disappointing 12th-placed finish last time out. A lack of goals was an issue, and adding a goalscorer to Howe’s squad is a must.

Newcastle Wait in Wings For Marmoush

Speculation continues to grow over Omar Marmoush’s future at Manchester City. The Egyptian forward only joined the club from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £59 million in January 2025 but could be on the move this summer.

TEAMtalk reports that Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur have made enquiries about the 27-year-old. There is also interest from the Bundesliga in the former Frankfurt man who caught the eye during his time in Germany.

Marmoush has endured a difficult spell at the Etihad, failing to live up to expectations. He lacked game time under Pep Guardiola, starting just eight of 21 league games last season.

The Egyptian is said not to be rushing for the exit door despite his struggles in the North-West thus far. He and his representatives want to understand where he features in new manager Enzo Maresca’s plans before making a decision.

Marmoush is the Goalscorer Howe Needs

Before Marmoush joined City on purported wages of £250,000 per week, his stock was sky-high amid an impressive spell at Frankfurt. He managed 37 goals and 20 assists in 67 games for the German club. It just hasn’t worked out for him at the Etihad, though he might be keen to wait and see whether Maresca gives him a chance.

For Newcastle, if they can sign the Egyptian for a reasonable price, they might be able to get the best out of him. Nick Woltemade’s slow start and Yoane Wissa’s frustrating debut campaign have furthered the need for more firepower.

Losing Alexander Isak was always going to be tough to deal but there are huge question marks over signing Woltemade and Wissa. Marmoush fits more with the profile of attacker the club should have targeted after selling Isak to Liverpool for £125m last summer.

Newcastle Agree Deal to Sign Arsenal Winger Kyran Thompson

Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign an Arsenal winger in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It’s been an interesting summer transfer window for Newcastle so far, losing two of their key stars in Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.

The Magpies have clearly had a big shift in their transfer dealings and their recruitment strategy, targeting up-and-coming talent rather than proven players.

Newcastle have made three new additions in the summer transfer window, with all of those players being 20 or under.

Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, and Ewen Jaouen have all arrived through the door at St. James’s Park, with Newcastle looking to replace their outgoing players with signings with high potential.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have agreed to do a deal to sign Arsenal and England Under-17 winger Kyran Thompson, with the deal now in place.

Newcastle beat a number of clubs to his signature, with Thompson leaving Arsenal as a free agent.

It is certainly a positive sign that Newcastle are able to attract young talent, especially when there is plenty of competition for the player.

It is unlikely that Thompson will come in and make an immediate impact on the senior squad, but it could be an exciting signing for the future.

Newcastle might need some ready-made additions

Although it’s an exciting plan for Newcastle to bring in some of the best talent from around Europe, they may also need to add some ready-made signings to their squad.

Losing Tonali and Gordon means that Newcastle have two guaranteed starters heading through the exit door, and the players that have come in to replace them might not be able to adapt to Premier League football immediately.

The new additions will need time to adapt and grow, meaning Newcastle can’t heavily rely on them instantly.

Although a handful of young signings will be beneficial, they also need some players to come in and be guaranteed starters.

Man Utd Open Talks to Sign Ederson Upgrade Manu Kone From AS Roma

Manchester United have gone back to the drawing board in their bid to bolster the central midfield position after developments in recent days.

Man United looked to have tied up a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson prior to the World Cup after agreeing a transfer worth less than £40m with the Serie A outfit.

Having received a late call-up to the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup, it was expected that the 26-year-old would complete his switch to Old Trafford after the tournament.

However, doubts emerged in recent days over his medical, and Fabrizio Romano then reported at the end of last week that a deal is now off for the Brazilian to join the Red Devils.

United are on the verge of announcing the addition of Ederson’s international teammate Andrey Santos, after agreeing a deal worth £50m with Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature.

After Romano’s update on Ederson, the club will now be looking elsewhere for an alternative, while it is suggested that a third midfielder could also be sought after Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury while representing Uruguay in north America this summer.

United have also missed out on the likes of Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, but now they are in talks with another international star.

Man United Hold Talks Over Signing Manu Kone

According to reports, Man United chiefs have already turned their attentions to landing AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone as an alternative to Ederson, having opened talks with his representatives over a potential switch to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are still on the hunt for top midfield reinforcements, and it is suggested that the France international could be available for a fee similar to that of Santos, which would be significantly cheaper than some of the other midfield signings we have already seen this summer.

Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali cost Tottenham £85m and £100m respectively, while Anderson joined Manchester City for £116m.

United may see the opportunity to land Santos and Kone for the same price as Tonali as an opportunity too good to turn down.

Kone Would be a Big Ederson Upgrade

Manchester United-bound midfielder Ederson via Reuters

While Ederson has been a strong enough performer for Atalanta in Serie A and in Europe, some United fans appeared underwhelmed by the potential signing of the Brazilian.

Kone may ply his trade in the same division as Ederson, but he has been a standout performer for Roma in recent seasons and would bring all of the attributes that Carrick and United want in midfield.

France have an abundance of talent throughout their squad and in midfield, but it is Kone who has stood out as one of their best performers in the position at the 2026 World Cup when he has been on the pitch.

He was outstanding in his nation’s quarter-final victory against Morocco, and has been described as ‘France’s best midfielder’ by Rio Ferdinand during the tournament, and the ‘best midfielder in France’ by Patrick Vieira.

Vieira believes he is better than Tchouameni, who was viewed as the club’s ‘dream’ Casemiro replacement this summer, according to Romano.

The French duo share an agent, but Kone is more likely to be available this summer, and he could be an exciting signing as a big upgrade on Ederson.
