The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the gruesome murder of a farmer, Mr Azeez Garba, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.

A daughter of the deceased, Abdulazeez ​Rofiat, had earlier raised the alarm over the murder of her father on his farm and called for justice.

The police commissioner, who described the killing as cruel, senseless, and unacceptable, strongly condemned the act and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to immediately deploy all available investigative and intelligence assets towards identifying, tracking, and apprehending those responsible.

According to the spokesperson for the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Tuesday, preliminary findings revealed that the deceased had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return home, prompting family members and local vigilantes to launch a search.

His motorcycle was later found parked at the farm, while his lifeless body was subsequently discovered a short distance away with deep machete wounds.

“While no arrest has been made as of the time of this release, the command wishes to assure the bereaved family, the people of Isin Local Government Area, and the general public that every available lead is being diligently pursued.

“Investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and ensure that all those connected with this heinous crime are identified and brought to justice,” the spokesperson added.

The Kwara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and said it would not relent until every person responsible for this reprehensible act is brought to justice.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected bandit who was allegedly on his way to deliver ammunition and other items to bandits operating in the bush.

The arrest was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the suspect, Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was arrested on Saturday at about 6 pm in Rimaye Village, Bichi Local Government Area.

The police said officers attached to the Bichi Division acted on credible information from a resident who reported seeing a man wearing what appeared to be a military uniform.

Working with members of the Rimawa community, the officers intercepted the suspect and searched his bag.

“During the search, the police recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a pair of desert boots, four ATM cards, and other personal identification documents,” the statement revealed.

According to the police, the suspect confessed during interrogation that he was in the area to deliver the recovered items to bandits hiding in the bush.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended members of the Rimawa community for promptly alerting the police, saying their action contributed to the success of the operation.

“This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility,” Bakori said.

The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network.

The command added that the case will be charged in court after investigations are completed.

It also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime across the state.

Six workers narrowly escaped death after they were rescued alive from the rubble of a partially collapsed processing mill in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, prompting an emergency response from the Kano State Command of the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Kano Command, Al-Hassan Ahmad Kantin.

According to the statement, the service received a distress call at about 6:45 pm on Monday, reporting that part of the commercial facility had collapsed.

Firefighters from the Danzaki Fire Station were immediately deployed to the scene, where they found that a section of the processing mill had caved in, trapping workers beneath the debris.

Rescue teams quickly secured the area and used grinding machines, shovels and other specialised equipment to carefully remove the rubble and reach those trapped.

After hours of rescue operations, all six workers were pulled out alive and given emergency medical attention.

“The successful rescue of all six victims without a single fatality is a testament to the professionalism, speed, and technical expertise of our rescue units,” Kantin said.

Preliminary findings by structural safety investigators indicated that the collapse was caused by excessive loading of heavy raw materials and stored inventory on the upper sections of the building.

The statement noted that the structural failure was limited to Milling Unit 1, preventing the collapse from spreading to other parts of the industrial facility.

The Federal Fire Service also said the operation helped save property valued at about N15 million, although the collapse destroyed parts of the building and materials estimated at N10 million.

Following the rescue, the Kano State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Kazeem Sholadoye Oyefola, praised the rescue team for preventing any loss of life.

With the rainy season underway, Oyefola urged developers, factory owners and landlords to conduct regular structural safety inspections on their buildings.
