A video purportedly showing suspected Boko Haram members travelling with their wives and children around the Lake Chad area has surfaced online.

An X user, The Crusader, who shared a video on Tuesday, claimed the terrorists were relocating to a new camp amid intensified military operations.

According to the post, sustained military offensives by Nigerian troops had made it increasingly difficult for the terrorists to relocate their families to safe locations.

“As Nigerian soldiers intensify operations against bandits, the criminals are no longer able to relocate their families to safer areas. There are simply no hidden safe havens left for terrorists and their affiliates,” the post on X read.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, in connection with the killing of a community leader in Bauchi metropolis and recovered the firearm allegedly used in the attack.

The command said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, while officers recovered a locally made single-barrel gun and one expended cartridge from him.

The victim, 55-year-old Jacob Bature, who was the Mai Anguwa of Unguwar Ngas in the Inkil area of Bauchi Local Government Area, was allegedly shot on Sunday evening.

According to the police, the incident happened at about 7:00 p.m. on July 19, when Anthony allegedly armed himself with the locally made gun and opened fire on the community leader.

Bature was said to have sustained severe gunshot wounds to his right ribs and collapsed at the scene.

A resident reported the incident to the ‘A’ Division Township Police Station at about 8:30 p.m., prompting police officers to respond immediately.

The injured community leader was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

His remains have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue pending an autopsy.

The police said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to be charged in court after the investigation is completed.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and assured residents that the command would ensure justice is served.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and warned members of the public against illegal possession of firearms.

The police commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Two men have been confirmed dead in a fatal road crash that occurred on Monday, at Olorunsogo, Leme area of the Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State.  

The crash happened at about 5:45 p.m, involving a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU. 

Witnesses report that the speeding Lexus collided with the motorcycle and the motorcyclist died instantly after sustaining a severe head injury.  

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, told DAILY POST that six persons were involved in the crash,while two lost their lives.

Odunsi ascribed the cause of the crash to speed violation, SPV, underscoring the persistent danger of excessive speed on Nigerian roads.

He said, “FRSC rescue operatives received the distress call at 5:50 p.m., arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m., and responded within five minutes.

“A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved.”

He noted that the FRSC rescue personnel evacuated the victims, deposited the bodies of the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, ans recovered personal belongings including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone.

He quoted the Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, to have commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged all motorists, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours.

 CC Ogunjobi emphasized that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue services, encouraging members of the public to promptly report road traffic crashes and emergencies to the FRSC emergency toll free line.
