A new era has begun for Manchester City as Pep Guardiola‘s departure after a decade of success has resulted in Enzo Maresca‘s appointment.

Having missed out on the league title to Arsenal last term, the Citizens were still able to bag a domestic cup double in Guardiola’s final season to ensure their strong relationship with trophy success continued — but a club with seven league titles in eight years will be raring to recapture the biggest prizes.

Especially considering their poor showing in the Champions League; that will not be tolerated by the fans and ownership in the upcoming season as they exited with a whimper to Real Madrid early in the knockout stages.

Yet, Maresca brings a fresh voice, new energy, and he inherits an incredibly talented squad that has already seen some major changes.

With multiple deals conducted in January, the squad is in a strong place, but City are always among the most influential teams in the window. Ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, GIVEMESPORT brings you every new signing and departure from the Etihad.

New Man City Signings 2026/27

One of the biggest deals of the window, period, is City’s acquisition of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson for £116million. Having established himself as a top performer in his position in the Premier League, as well as starting every game for England at the World Cup, he arrives to partner Rodri in midfield, which promises to be a strong upgrade.

Also arriving are two attacking youngsters: Mathys Detourbet from Troyes for £21.5million and Jeremy Monga from Leicester City for £12million with the former being sent to Ligue 1 on loan. Plus, goalkeeper Pierce Charles has resigned from Sheffield Wednesday.

One potential addition is Lille‘s mercurial talent, Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18-year-old is one of the most in-demand midfielders in Europe after his starring performances at the World Cup and City are well-placed to bring him in this summer, bolstering their midfield that would include Rodri, Anderson and Tijani Rejinders.

Another potential addition could be Chelsea‘s Malo Gusto, who has been linked with reuniting with former boss Maresca. The France international would compete directly with the former midfielder-turned-defender Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis.

Man City Departures 2026/27

The end of the Guardiola era brought about the exits of key stalwarts of his successful tenure; Bernardo Silva and John Stones have both been released, with the former joining Real Madrid. Another key figure in Nathan Ake has also left, joining Turkish giants Fenerbahçe for £7million. All three were key to league, cup and European glory since arriving nearly a decade ago.

Manuel Akanji has also exited after a successful loan spell at Inter Milan, where he was a mainstay in their side as they triumphed in Serie A and the Italian club triggered their option-to-buy for around £13million.

Having arrived at the club, Detourbet has been sent to Ligue 1 and AS Monaco on loan, whilst Charles has accepted a loan to QPR. Attacking midfielder Sverre Nypan has also left on loan to gain experience at Lommel SK.

City have five players with their contracts set to expire in June, including Rodri, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic and Issa Kabore. The first of those, Rodri, is reportedly wanting to exit the Etihad to join Madrid, according to one Spanish journalist. Whether that comes to fruition remains to be seen, but it would be a major blow for Maresca.

Kabore could well be a target for another Premier League club, whilst Kovacic has an option of being a backup figure at City or locating a new challenge in the twilight of his career. For Grealish, fitness concerns will be key if he is to secure a move elsewhere. Whilst his loan spell at Everton began well, he spent the second half of the season struggling for fitness.

Forgotten midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who hasn’t featured in the league since late-2023, will surely be lining up an exit despite having two years left on his current deal.

Premier League Transfers

Argentina FA president Claudio Tapia has given his thoughts on his nation’s World Cup final defeat to Spain amid a petition demanding the game be replayed.

Lionel Messi failed to become a two-time World Cup champion after La Albiceleste fell to a 1-0 loss at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Lionel Scaloni played extra time with 10 men following Enzo Fernandez’s 90+3rd-minute sending off for two bookable offences.

Spain made the most of their one-man advantage, and Ferran Torres smashed home a 106th-minute winner for Luis de La Fuente’s side. It was a bitter end to Messi’s final World Cup campaign amid growing speculation over possible international retirement.

Argentina Fans Petition For World Cup Final Replay

Messi wasn’t involved in a furious post-match brawl that led to FIFA conducting a review. Argentina’s Leandro Paredes threw punches at Spanish midfielder Gavi while there were other incidents involving assistant coach Roberto Ayala and defender Nahuel Molina.

Not only were Argentina players and staff fuming with their defeat to Spain, but tens of thousands of fans believed the final should be replayed. A fan created a petition on Change.org which has reached 95,710 signatures as of Friday (July 24th).

Its creator, Gisela Sanchez, alleged that Slovakian referee Slavko Vincic and the officiating team’s decisions forced the outcome of the match. She wrote in the petition to FIFA, saying ‘this isn’t just a matter of justice for Argentina, but for the future of world football.”

This is not expected to have any effect, though, as petitions on Change.org have no legal or binding effect on the result. Only under “extraordinary circumstances” would the final be replayed, and not because of fans’ issues with the refereeing performance.

‘Acknowledge That’ – Tapia on Argentina World Cup Loss

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has already dismissed conspiracy theories and suggestions Vincic’s officiating resulted in his nation’s loss. He insisted that “the better team” won on the day and this has been echoed by the Argentina FA president.

Tapia posted a lengthy statement in response to La Albiceleste’s World Cup final loss and had a clear message for those demanding a replay: “We were unable to get past Spain. We couldn’t beat Spain. They were superior, they won fair and square, and we have to acknowledge that.”

Delving further into the defeat, he touched on needing to accept it: “In sports, you also learn by accepting defeats with the same grace with which you celebrate victories. Yes, we lost a final. But it’s also true that this group had just brought immense joy to the country. Argentina had celebrated a match earlier because this team once again demonstrated why it means so much to our people.”

Paredes, Molina and Ayala’s actions have been condemned by many in the game, with Gary Neville on ITV branding them ‘disgraceful.’ Argentina players had their backs to Spain during the trophy celebration and Tapia understands the hurt they are suffering:

“Losing hurts. It hurts because we are competitive, because we are the most successful team in history, and because second place is never enough for us. It hurts because we are used to fighting until the end and because we continue to be one of the two best teams in the world.”

Tapia wants fans to acknowledge the team’s contributions: “But let’s stop for a moment. Let’s think about the sacrifice of these players, the coaching staff, and every person who worked for more than 50 days away from their families, with a single objective: to represent Argentina in the best way possible.”

He added: “We are Argentinians. We compete with grit, with passion, and with heart… That’s why you shouldn’t be swayed by lies or by schemes that only seek to destabilize. Enough of trying to turn against those who have given so much to our football… Schemes come and go. The commitment, the work, and the heart of our National Team remain forever.”

On the flipside, there were allegations during the World Cup that Argentina was being handed preferential treatment. Egypt manager Hossam Hassan accused FIFA of wanting Messi and his team to stay in the tournament for as long as possible.

FIFA said on Wednesday that a Task Force had identified nothing that would be perceived as match manipulation. Findings from the Group of Copenhagen have flagged seven matches for potential match manipulation, but none of those include La Albiceleste as things stand.

Former WWE boss Vince McMahon was known for having some very particular habits and pet peeves. The controversial businessman came into a conversation a couple of years ago when Reddit user u/Villano5 shared a picture of his “office checklist.”

The list heavily features sanitising products, which should not come as a surprise to fans as McMahon has been known to be a germaphobe.

Numerous anecdotes from former wrestlers and aides claim that he hated sneezing, whether done by himself or by anybody else, because he considered it an indication of lacking control.

Vince McMahon’s Quirks While Head of WWE

Legendary former WWE commentator Jim Ross, who was also the company’s head of talent relations, once revealed an odd story about McMahon’s diet.

In his autobiography, ‘Under the Black Hat: My Life in the WWE and Beyond’, Ross described how, in the early 2000s, he was called to McMahon’s office to discuss the company’s decision to move TV networks.

Ross wrote: “When I popped my head into his office, Vince was eating a sandwich with a knife and fork. The chairman is a bit of a germaphobe. Even on longer days, when pizza was delivered, Vince would fold a slice and eat it up to where he touched it, then bin the rest. It was my daily challenge at WWE to ignore this while sitting across from him.”

This was corroborated by Vince’s daughter Stephanie, who, in an interview with The Bill Simmons podcast, said: “He feels like [nodding] influences the room. If someone is talking and someone else is nodding, you’re going to influence the room. You shouldn’t influence the room. Let people think what they want to think.

McMahon had a reputation for taking a no-nonsense attitude to business. He implemented this strategy, among other things, by banning the use of particular words in WWE programming.

Fans are familiar with his list of banned phrases, even if he hasn’t often commented on them. The most famous term that McMahon banned was “wrestling.” It’s believed he removed the word “wrestling” from WWE programming in an effort to disassociate the company from the negative stereotypes surrounding professional wrestling.

Vince McMahon’s Recent Scandal

In 2022, McMahon was embroiled in a major scandal involving multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity. The Wall Street Journal reported that he had paid over $12 million in hush money to suppress these allegations from several former employees. The payments were intended to prevent the women from speaking out about their experiences, which included claims of sexual harassment and coercion.

This revelation led to significant backlash and McMahon stepping down as CEO and chairman of WWE in July 2022. His son-in-law Paul “Triple H” Levesque has since taken over as the head of creative for WWE’s shows.
