Mob attacks Customs, military team in Ogun
A combined team of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, officers and soldiers on special duty was overpowered by a mob in Agbara, Ogun State, during an operation to intercept a vehicle suspected of conveying cannabis.
The incident was made known on Monday in a post on X by counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama.
Makama disclosed that the incident occurred on Sunday when the team, stationed at Church Gate checkpoint along the Badagry–Lagos Expressway, attempted to stop a bus suspected to be transporting the illicit substance.
According to reports, the bus driver defied the stop order and sped off, prompting the patrol team led by one Inspector Ejeh giving the suspect a chase, with military support from soldiers attached to the Seme Command.
“The chase extended into Agbara community, where the officers attempted to apprehend the fleeing suspects. However, an irate mob reportedly resisted the arrest, overpowering the patrol team and enabling the suspect to escape.
“While the customs personnel managed to retreat, Sgt. Mohammed was left behind and surrounded by the mob before intervention arrived,” Makama said.
He added that army troops reinforcements, were swiftly deployed to the scene, rescuing the soldier and restoring order.
The situation in Agbara was said to be calm as police and military patrols continued to monitor the area.

Nigerian man drags daughter to court for failing to get married at 27
.A father of 11, Lawal Hamisu, on Tuesday prayed the Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to compel his daughter, Fatima Lawal, to get a suitor and marry.
The complainant, who spoke through his counsel, H.B Debo, said his daughter was 27 years old and had completed her Higher National Diploma, HND, adding that she entertained different admirers but failed to bring one serious suitor.
“She should get a suitor, present him in court and the court should marry her off since her mother has poisoned their minds against me,” the angry father said.
On her part, the daughter said she has no serious suitor, adding that none of her admirers has proposed marriage.
The judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, said the case was a sensitive one since it involved a parent and his child, adding that he would discuss one on one with each party to understand them and advise further.
He adjourned the case to August 3, 2026, for ruling.

Two students face investigation over alleged cannabis possession at Taraba varsity
As part of its sustained campaign against drug abuse and cult-related activities, the Directorate of Narcotics and Anti-Cultism of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, has apprehended two 300-level students from the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, for allegedly smoking cannabis within the university premises.
The students were said to have been intercepted during a routine operation conducted by officers of the directorate after they were allegedly found in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis and reportedly smoking within the university environment.
The Director of the Directorate of Narcotics and Anti-Cultism stated that the operation underscored the university’s zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse and other activities capable of disrupting the peaceful academic environment.
He reaffirmed the directorate’s commitment to strengthening surveillance and enforcement efforts to ensure that the campus remains safe, secure and conducive to teaching, learning and research.
The matter, according to findings by our reporter, has been referred to the appropriate university authorities for further investigation and any necessary disciplinary action in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to combating drug abuse, cultism and other social vices on campus.
The university, according to him, will continue to strengthen preventive and enforcement measures aimed at promoting discipline, safeguarding students’ welfare and maintaining a secure academic environment for all members of the university community.

Police arrest suspects, recover 285 vandalized pipelines in Adamawa [PHOTO]
Operatives of the Nigeria Police under the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering and the IGP X-Squad has arrested seven suspects and recovered 285 vandalized Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, pipelines in Adamawa State.
This is contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Iniedu, on Tuesday.
Iniedu said acting on credible intelligence received on 9th July 2026, operatives intercepted a J5 bus fully loaded with suspected vandalized NNPC pipelines along the Yola–Numan Road in Adamawa State.
According to him, the vehicle was driven by one Paul Joshua and accompanied by one Paul Ishiyaku.
He added that the operation subsequently led to the arrest of seven suspects identified as Haruna Usman, 28; Haruna Muhammed Sule, 30; Dabus Peter, 38; Ahmad Adamu, 19; Sadik Ibrahim, 31; Paul Joshua, 49; and Paul Ishiyaku, 48.
Iniedu stated that further searches conducted during the operation resulted in the recovery of two hundred and eighty-five (285) pieces of vandalized pipelines, six (6) gas cylinders, diggers, shovels, one J5 bus with registration number KRD 767 XC, blue in colour, and other equipment suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.
He reiterated that all recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence.

“The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the criminal enterprise and identify other individuals connected to the vandalism network.
“The Nigeria Police Force under the administration of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reiterates its commitment to the protection of critical national infrastructure and the fight against economic sabotage.

“Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts aimed at combating crime and safeguarding national assets across the country,” the statement said.
