District head, two women abducted in Plateau
Gunmen on Sunday night kidnapped the District Head of Birbyang, Alhaji Zubairu Usman Garba, and two women in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attackers invaded the community around 1a.m., firing shots before taking the victims away.
The wife of the District Head was also seized but later managed to escape.
This comes just a week after the Ward Head of Shuwaka community in the same LGA was abducted and later killed.
Confirming the incident, the Secretary of the Kanam Development Association (KADA), Shehu Kanam, said, “The kidnappers attacked the community around 1 a.m. We condemn this act and call on security agencies to rescue the victims and restore peace.”
In a joint statement signed by the Secretary and the Chairman of the group, Barrister Garba Aliyu, the community accused political representatives of neglecting their duty to protect residents.
They also urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang and security agencies to act swiftly against the growing insecurity.
Kidnapping and banditry have become increasingly common in Kanam and other parts of Plateau, with residents either killed or abducted for ransom.
The Plateau State command has not issued a formal statement on the issue.

Army pounds ISWAP terrorist, recovers weapons, logistics in Yobe
Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, OPHK, have killed a Boko Haram terrorist after foiling ISWAP mission aimed at extorting innocent civilians in Yobe State.
This is contained in a statement by Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni on Tuesday.
Goni said while acting on credible and actionable intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from local communities, troops of Forward Operating Base, FOB, Bukarti, in conjunction with 27 Task Force Brigade, swiftly deployed on an aggressive fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis at about on 19 July 2026.
According to him, the troops made contact with the terrorists and immediately engaged them with overwhelming and superior firepower.
The spokesman added that during the ensuing firefight, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully engaged and immobilised, while its driver was neutralised.
He stressed that being unable to withstand the troops’ overwhelming combat superiority, four other terrorists abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.
He reiterated that the follow up exploitation operations conducted on 20 July 2026 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis resulted in the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools assessed to have supported terrorist logistics and sustainment activities.
“The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and the sustained offensive posture of Operation HADIN KAI in disrupting terrorist logistics, dismantling illicit revenue networks, and denying terrorists freedom of action across the North East Theatre.
“Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements and will continue to conduct intelligence-driven offensive operations, in synergy with other security agencies and with the continued support of law-abiding citizens, until terrorism is decisively defeated and enduring peace, security, and stability are fully restored across the region,” Goni said.

Troops arrest 10 suspected terrorist’ logistics suppliers in Kebbi
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a significant blow to terrorist logistics networks in Kebbi State, intercepting 10 brand-new Honda motorcycles allegedly destined for terrorists and arresting 10 suspects linked to the supply chain.
The development was contained in a post shared on Tuesday by crisis reporter in the North-West region, Bakatsine, via his X handle.
According to Bakatsine, the operation was carried out on Monday afternoon following credible intelligence on the movement of logistics intended for terrorist elements operating in the state.
The report said troops intercepted the 10 motorcycles, which had been strategically concealed inside cardboard cartons, while they were allegedly being transported to a notorious terrorist kingpin, Mallam Gehowa, who operates around the Amogoro axis.
Following the interception, troops launched a swift follow-up operation and tracked down four additional suspects who had reportedly arrived to collect the consignment.
In total, 10 suspects believed to be linked to the terrorist logistics network were arrested during the operation.
The successful operation is seen as another major disruption of terrorist supply chains in the North-West, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led military operations aimed at denying criminal groups access to mobility and other logistical support.
