Many politicians focused on impressing Tinubu than serving Nigerians – PDP Rep
The lawmaker representing Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency of Delta State at the House of Representatives, Benedict Etanabene, has said many politicians are focused on impressing President Bola Tinubu than serving Nigerians.
Etanabene, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, made the claim on Saturday during an interview on Arise Television.
His remark stemmed from what he described as the rushed passage of the State Police Bill.
“Many politicians are more focused on impressing president Tinubu than serving citizens. They want to be praised by their leaders.
“When people gather, they want to be able to say, look at what I did to that person. Whether what they did was right or wrong is not their concern. What matters is getting the approval and praise of their leaders.
“Many opposition party members would have even voted for the executive version of the State Police Bill. But even at that stage, what we were concerned about is: can we debate clause by clause? Because as opposition party member, we had the document.
“Don’t forget that this bill was passed some months back, and by the Wednesday of that week, we came and receded it. The life of that one that we have been discussing before came to an end, and one was introduced by the executive that Wednesday, and by Thursday we have been told that we needed to pass it.
“Some of us didn’t sleep that night because we went clause by clause looking at it and trying to rush it, but that’s not how it is supposed to be. We’re just trying to see how we can meet up with the pattern,” he said.

Kenneth Okonkwo blasts Wike over comment on Amaechi’s political relevance
Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson to African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed claims by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,FCT, Nyesom Wike, that former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has lost his political relevance.
Okonkwo said Wike’s claim that he had repeatedly defeated Amaechi was not supported by facts, arguing that Amaechi did not contest the Rivers State governorship election against Wike in 2015.
Speaking while defending Amaechi’s relevance to the Atiku-Amaechi ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election on Symfoni TV, Okonkwo described Wike as a “local champion” for limiting his political assessment of Amaechi to Rivers State.
“When Wike is talking about elections, can’t you see he restricts himself to Rivers State? Local champion,” Okonkwo said.
He questioned how Wike could claim to have defeated Amaechi when the former governor did not contest against him in the 2015 Rivers State governorship election or seek any elective political office in the state in 2019.
“When he says I defeated him, please let me ask Chibuike Amaechi, did he contest for Rivers State governorship election in 2015? Did he contest for any political office in Rivers State in 2019? How did you defeat him?
“So unfortunately what he said was not the reflection of the facts. Chibuike has been very successful all through and as vice presidential candidate he is going to deliver again for his boss, Atiku abubakar, for ADC and for the Nigerian people,” Okonkwo added.

Jigawa ADC governorship candidate disowns purported power-sharing deal
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, Senator Sabo Muhammed Na Kudu, has rejected an alleged power-sharing agreement purportedly reached between him and former governorship aspirant, Hon. Bashir Adamu Jumbo.
In a disclaimer dated August 8, 2026, Na Kudu said he had no involvement in the purported agreement, which was reportedly dated July 3, 2026.
He denied negotiating, signing, approving, authorising, or ratifying the document, describing it as false and misleading.
The ADC candidate specifically rejected the alleged 60:40 power-sharing arrangement, including reported provisions relating to the deputy governorship position, elective offices, and federal and state appointments.
“I did not negotiate, execute, approve, authorise, consent to, adopt or ratify the said agreement,” Na Kudu stated.
He also disowned the signature purportedly appended against his name on the document, insisting that he neither signed it nor authorised any individual to sign on his behalf.
Na Kudu maintained that the alleged agreement did not reflect his position or that of his campaign, urging party supporters and the public to disregard the document.
The development comes amid increasing political realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Jigawa State.
Na Kudu urged political actors, institutions and media organisations to refrain from treating or circulating the document as a duly authorised agreement.
He also threatened legal action against anyone found responsible for allegedly fabricating, altering, falsely attributing, unlawfully using his purported signature.
or circulating the document.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not a party to the purported agreement and shall not be bound by any of its provisions,” he said.
DAILY POST reported that Na Kudu picked former PDP and NNPP governorship candidate Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
