By Nwafor Sunday
Former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce; and other political figures have congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
The politicians, in separate messages on X on Sunday, described Adeleke’s re-election as significant for democracy and the people of Osun State, while urging political actors to draw lessons from the outcome.
Dickson: Victory reminder of people’s democratic power
Dickson congratulated Adeleke on his re-election, saying the outcome demonstrated that the people could still assert their democratic will through the ballot despite the challenges facing the political environment.
“I warmly congratulate the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun State Governorship Election.
“This victory is significant not only for Governor Adeleke and the people of Osun State, but also for our democracy. It is a reminder that, even in an increasingly challenging political environment, the people can still assert their democratic will through the ballot,” he said.
The former governor commended Osun voters for standing firm in defence of their democratic choice.
He also called on candidates who lost the election to support Adeleke in the interest of peace and development in the state.
“I commend the people of Osun State for standing firm in defence of their democratic choice, and call on all those who contested the election and emerged on the losing side to join hands with the Governor in the spirit of sportsmanship and work for the peace and development of Osun State,” Dickson said.
He wished Adeleke and the people of Osun continued peace, progress and prosperity.
Keyamo congratulates Adeleke
Keyamo also congratulated Adeleke on what he described as a historic victory in the governorship election.
“Huge congratulations to Governor Ademola Adeleke on his historic victory in the governorship election in Osun State,” the minister said.
Murray-Bruce: Congratulations, my brother
Murray-Bruce congratulated Adeleke, whom he described as a friend and former colleague in the eighth Senate.
“Warm congratulations to my dear friend and former colleague in the 8th Senate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun State governorship election.
“Congratulations, my brother,” he said.
Rhodes-Vivour: Osun triumph against tyranny
Former Lagos State Labour Party governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, congratulated Osun voters, describing the election outcome as a triumph against what he termed tyranny.
“I congratulate the great people of Osun on their spectacular triumph against tyranny,” he said.
Rhodes-Vivour said the outcome demonstrated that intimidation and financial inducements could not deter determined voters.
“You have proven that no amount of guns, intimidation and inducement can deter a people determined not to return under the yoke of their oppressors,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the Osun election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Let us take the lessons from Osun and build on it towards the general elections,” Rhodes-Vivour added.
Dino Melaye: Opposition wins in Osun
Former Kogi State senator, Dino Melaye, also congratulated Adeleke, describing the outcome as an opposition victory.
“Opposition win in Osun. Congratulations Ademola Adeleke. We are dancing to the Villa. APC… odabo,” Melaye posted.
Adeleke was declared winner of the election after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
