The World Grand Prix of Darts reaches its climax on Sunday night in what is poised to be a thrilling final in Leicester. Teenage sensation Luke Littler takes on world number one Luke Humphries.

The pair meet in the deciding contest of this year’s tournament at the Mattioli Arena, which has so far provided upsets, drama and an emphatic level of darts. Littler, 18, has been impressive on the double-start format, surviving a tense quarter-final against Gerwyn Price, before sweeping Johnny Clayton aside in a 5-1 win in the semi-finals.

Humphries, 30, returns to the stage following a 5-3 battling win against Danny Noppert that booked his place against Littler. This is now the third year running that “Cool Hand” has made it to the final, emulating the great Phil Taylor, and he’ll be hoping to reclaim the title he lost to Mike De Decker last year.

Littler has had a stellar 2025 thus far, taking home the UK Open as well as the World Matchplay. Humphries has described the Grand Prix as “the biggest game in world darts”, with Sunday’s clash the 25th time the Luke’s have faced-off in a PDC professional event.

Humphries Admits Littler “Brings Best Out of Me” Ahead of Final

The tournament has once again showcased its unpredictability. Composure has proved to be a very powerful skill, given the unique format requiring each player to start and finish each leg on a double, with Littler acknowledging the level-playing field.

“Very excited. Obviously, it’s been very different this week with the double start. So anyone can win it. But another Luke and Luke final. It doesn’t get boring. I owe him for the Premier League.”

The rivalry between the two Lukes has become a compelling notion at the highest level in darts, with Littler referring to their bout in the Premier League with Humphries taking the win.

“I think me and Luke is the biggest game in darts. Whether it’s a final, whether it’s a first round, whether it’s a semi-final. Because we bring the best out of each other.”

With both men promising an action-packed encounter, the final looks set to be one not to be missed. All the action gets underway at 8:00pm UK time, with a 3:00pm ET start for fans in the US.

With Littler chasing his first World Grand Prix title, and Humphries seeking to reaffirm his place at the top with a second victory, fans are in for a spectacle and a blockbuster ending to the tournament. The final will be played over the best of 11 sets, meaning that the first player to six will take home the trophy.

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up alternatives to Junior Kroupi after deciding to delay a pursuit of the Bournemouth striker.

The young French forward suffered a foot injury during pre-season with the Cherries and has undergone surgery. He’s set to miss the next 3-4 months, and as a result, Spurs are reportedly set to wait until next year to move for the 20-year-old.

The Kroupi situation will surely be factored in, though, as moving for a young striker could jeopardise a pursuit of the 20-year-old. It’s important that the higher-ups consider the knock-on effect of the German’s potential arrival.

If the Lilywhites intend to move for Kroupi, signing a player of a similar age doesn’t feel like the best approach. Instead, moving for a short-term experienced solution, much like Chelsea swooping for Danny Welbeck, could be the answer.

Newcastle United are closing in on Matthias Jaissle’s first signing ahead of his expected appointment as Eddie Howe’s replacement.

Jaissle is set to take the reins at St James’ Park following Howe’s shock resignation this week. The Magpies have endured a frustrating summer transfer window and have already sold two of their top stars.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that they are in advanced negotiations over a deal for the Czech shot-stopper, who has a €30 million (£25m) release clause in his contract.

A move for Hornicek is progressing quickly, and he’s set to become the Tyneside outfit’s second goalkeeping acquisition this summer. Ewen Jaouen arrived from Reims after the club opted against signing Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale permanently.

Hornicek, dubbed “excellent”, has been Braga’s number one since the 2024-25 campaign and earned a call-up to the Czech Republic national team for the World Cup. Despite not featuring, he is tipped for a bright future and could replace Nick Pope, who is expected to leave.

The 24-year-old kept 24 clean sheets in 55 games last season and is a modern sweeper-keeper. Should he arrive at St James’ Park, he’ll become the first addition made to Jaissle’s squad, which is undergoing a rebuild.

While signing a new goalkeeper has been an obvious need for Newcastle, the higher-ups are continuing to let their top stars depart. That may have largely led to Howe’s departure and Guimaraes’ likely exit may have been the tip of the iceberg.

Lewis Hall could be the next high-profile sale amid reports claiming Manchester United are weighing up a move for the English left-back. If the Magpies do agree to sell, it must be the last of a mass exodus that is threatening to ruin the growth achieved under Howe.

Jaissle should ideally be backed with marquee signings to address those departures. Hornicek certainly isn’t one of them, but he does have the ability to replace Pope and compete with Jaouen for the number one spot.
