25 Best Young Players in World Football (Ranked)

Published

on

Summary

  • We’ve ranked the top 25 players in world football, aged 21 or under, based on their achievements and potential.
  • Several Premier League stars feature, with Willian Estevao seeing a major leap in his standings.
  • Any player over the age of 21 (as of October 31, 2025) does not qualify for the list.

Sometimes it’s obvious in football which young players are destined for greatness. Lionel Messi is the one example that immediately springs to mind, although there are many others. It was patently clear that the Argentine had the potential to become a world-class footballer just a few years after he joined Barcelona aged 13.

Similarly, there are a handful of youngsters aged 21 or under in 2025 who appear to possess all the tools to become truly great footballers. We’re unlikely to see another Messi-esque talent emerge any time soon, but that doesn’t mean they won’t become outstanding players in their own right.

Ranking factors

We’ve ranked the world’s current best young footballers based on the following criteria:

  • Achievements so far at club / international level
  • Expected potential

Only players aged 21 or under at the time of writing qualify for the list.

Kendry Paez | Ecuador, Age 18

Position: Midfielder. Club: Chelsea. DOB: 04/05/2007.

Kendry Paez of Ecuador celebrates vs Fiji

Kendry Paez is coming to the Premier League in 2026 after none other than talent hoarders Chelsea struck an agreement to bring the wonderkid to Stamford Bridge from Independiente del Valle. He was just 15 years old when that deal was agreed for just shy of £20 million.

While that may seem like an extortionate fee for such a young player, Paez is expected to reach a world-class level in the future and fans could look back on that as some of the best business in recent memory. The Ecuadorian midfielder’s incredible touch and ball control are among his best features, which he will be hoping to show on loan at Strasbourg this term.

The biggest moment of his young career came when Paez led his team to victory in the final of the Copa Milo Mitad del Mundo 2022. Currently, the youngster is on loan at Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg in Ligue 1, and while the majority of his cameos have been off the bench, he’s certainly caught the eye of many when he’s entered the fray. A real talent for the future is Paez.

Jamie Gittens | England, Age 21

Position: Winger. Club: Chelsea. DOB: 08/08/2004

Similarly to Jadon Sancho, Jamie Gittens was an academy player at Manchester City when he decided to take his talents to Borussia Dortmund and continue his development there. Also like Sancho, the move paid off for the Englishman as he emerged into the Bundesliga club’s first-team and became an exciting young talent for them. No one develops players like Dortmund and Gittens is the latest example of that.

The 21-year-old winger had the best season of his young career so far during 2024/25, with 12 goals in all competitions, and it wasn’t too surprising to see Chelsea take notice. Gittens became the latest prospect to move to Stamford Bridge, helping to usher in an exciting new era for the Blues, but he’s yet to fully take the chance with both hands. Enzo Maresca has a wealth of wingers at his disposal – and it’s now on Gittens to take the opportunity with both hands.

Dro Fernandez | Spain, Age 17

Position: Midfielder. Club: Barcelona. DOB: 12/01/2008.

Barcelona’s academy – and for good reason, too – is widely recognised as one of the best in world football. It has produced all manner of world-beating stars over the years and next up could be Dro Fernandez. With him being just 17, it may be too early to predict what the future holds for the attacking midfielder, but he’s already adorned himself to the Camp Nou faithful, despite his very small number of appearances.

Primarily used in the Catalan side’s reverse team, Flick has not hesitated to call him up on several occasions – highlighting how crucial he could be in the foreseeable future – and his slight frame could be useful in games when the Spanish juggernauts need someone to pick up the ball and drive at defenders. In fact, you know you’re a brilliant, up-and-coming talent when Chelsea and Manchester City are interested.

Milos Kerkez | Hungary, Age 21

Position: Defender. Club: Liverpool. DOB: 07/11/2003.

With Andy Robertson losing a step last season, Liverpool knew it was time to think about replacing their legendary Scottish left-back. Fortunately for Arne Slot, the 2024/25 campaign saw Milos Kerkez emerge at Bournemouth as an elite full-back. The Hungarian international shone for the Cherries as they produced their best-ever season in the top flight.

He was dynamite down the left-hand side and Liverpool fans are thrilled with his arrival at Anfield. There are, however, already questions over whether he’d be able to replicate his form with Bournemouth on Merseyside, but the defender has a blindingly bright future and if he’s even half as good, he’ll still be mightily impressive in the years to come.

Nico Paz | Argentina, Age 21

Position: Forward. Club: Como 1907. DOB: 08/09/2004

Real Madrid are typically brilliant at keeping of world football’s brightest talent in their grasp – but that cannot be said for Nico Paz, who is now lighting up Serie A with Cesc Fabregas’ Como 1907. He operates just behind the striker and, so far in 2025/26, has done a terrific job of linking the midfield and forward line of the Italian outfit. Nimble on his feet, the youngster is a joy to watch.

Exclusively chosen by Lionel Messi to be one of ten footballer superstars to wear his newest boots, Paz will be hoping to replicate the brilliance of his compatriot in years to come and the Tottenham Hotspur-linked 21-year-old, who was born in Spain, is on his way to doing so. A six-cap Argentina international already, it is only a matter of time until one of the biggest clubs in Europe swoops in for his signature.

Rico Lewis | England, Age 20

Position: Defender. Club: Manchester City. DOB: 21/11/2004.

At such a tender age, Manchester City’s versatile defender Rico Lewis enjoyed a breakthrough season during the 2022/23 campaign and has already been handed several opportunities to impress. To be a regular in Pep Guardiola’s talent-laden side, you must have something special about you. A defender by trade, the Spaniard’s blueprint often leads Lewis to move infield to perform the inverted full-back role, something he has perfected over the years.

The youngster made his England senior debut in November 2023, a day before his 19th birthday and Lewis has since featured for the Three Lions on an additional four occasions. At the time of writing, his career – for club and country – has hit something of a road block but it’s not unfair to say that the sky’s the limit for the defender, who is already regarded as one of the best English teenagers in the sport.

Alejandro Garnacho | Argentina, Age 21

Position: Winger. Club: Chelsea. DOB: 01/07/2004.

Alejandro Garnacho‘s time at Manchester United came to a lamentable end in the summer of 2025 after failing to convince Ruben Amorim, but there’s no doubt the Madrid-born winger, who has represented Argentina’s senior national team on eight occasions, is a young player with enormous potential. Opting to remain in England rather than transfer overseas, the young winger moved to Chelsea, and he’s struggled to fit into his new surroundings.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Rico Lewis and Kobbie Mainoo are among the Premier League’s most talented youngsters.

Garnacho’s direct dribbling style and fearless nature made him a firm fan favourite at Old Trafford during times of struggle throughout Erik ten Hag’s tenure. There are a couple of areas of his game that require fine-tuning, his poor attitude included, but the 21-year-old has the potential to become one of the world’s best wingers if everything clicks.

Kobbie Mainoo | England, Age 20

Position: Midfielder. Club: Manchester United. DOB: 19/04/2005.

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in action

Kobbie Mainoo burst onto the scene with Manchester United during the 2023/24 season and impressed fans and pundits alike with his remarkably mature performances. Many young players struggle when they’re thrust into a team that isn’t firing on all cylinders, but Manchester-born Mainoo saw this as his opportunity to shine and took it with both hands. Under the stewardship of Ruben Amorim, things haven’t been as fruitful though.

The central midfielder – who turned 20 in April – had forced his way into the England first-team, starting several knockout games for the Three Lions at Euro 2024 and looking comfortable. He may not be in contention for a spot under Thomas Tuchel right now but that’s not to say he isn’t talented enough.

Mainoo, 20, produced the goods in the Premier League week in and week out in his attempts to make that dream a reality, but his form has somewhat dipped last season. There’s even talk that he might end up leaving Old Trafford as he struggles for game time under Ruben Amorim; it’s certainly a story to keep an eye on as the days go by.

Max Dowman I England, Age 15

Position: Winger. Club: Arsenal. DOB: 31/12/2009.

Where to start with one of the most exciting talents of the last decade? Come rain or shine, you can bet your bottom dollar that Max Dowman, a 15-year-old prodigy fresh out of Arsenal’s academy ranks, will make defenders look foolish in a 90-minute match. His close control is one thing, but the intangible willingness to drive at a defender is second to none. He’s destined to achieve great things in the beautiful game; and we all have front row seats to watch it unfold.

Given that he is still so young, 2025/26 will not be the season where he becomes indispensable under Mikel Arteta – but that’s not to say he won’t become utterly undroppable in years to come. In fact, should he stay on the red half of north London, there is every chance that he becomes one of the best players in the Premier League. Watch this space!

16

Aleksandar Pavlovic | Germany, Age 21

Position: Midfielder. Club: Bayern Munich. DOB: 03/05/2004.

The goalscoring threat of Harry Kane and the dazzling of Michael Olise on the right means that the likes of engine room patroller Aleksandar Pavlovic go under the radar. The young German, who was born in 2004, is the new breed of defensive midfielders – and there are very few young midfielders that possess the same maturity as the Bayern Munich phenom.

Not only is he defensively sound, but he is a brilliant ball-carrier, too, and often breaks the lines to make a difference further afield; an aspect of his game that is of benefit to Vincent Kompany’s spotlight-stealing forwards. He endured his fair share of injury troubles in the 2024/25 campaign but, when fully fit and raring to go, he’s often stationed as the fulcrum of Kompany’s midfield.

Tottenham Set To Lose Guglielmo Vicario As European Giants Eye Transfer

Published

on

By

Tottenham are preparing for a busy summer transfer window, one that promises to be exciting and transformative after a disappointing campaign.

Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival helped Spurs avoid relegation on the final day of the Premier League season, after falling to new lows in the division.

While survival was a monumental moment for the manager, he emphasised that a campaign like that last one simply cannot happen again for Tottenham, with the solution being some transfer activity.

Signings are a priority, with Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson set to join the club on free transfers. Then there’s the bid made for Jan Paul van Hecke, which could see the Brighton defender move to North London.

Arrivals are key, but so too are exits, with a growing list of names set to leave Tottenham in the coming weeks.

Juventus Want Guglielmo Vicario

vicario

The latest reports from Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Juventus have joined the race to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the summer transfer window.

The Serie A side were linked with the Italian shot-stopper previously, but with Inter Milan seemingly taking the lead, attention turned to Liverpool ace Alisson Becker.

That move has seemingly fallen through, leading to revived interest in Vicario, who could leave three years after moving to Tottenham from Empoli.

The 29-year-old was drafted in as the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, and started admirably with some top performances, not only in making saves but by playing out well, which was a requirement for then-manager Ange Postecoglou.

As time has gone on, however, Vicario has struggled alongside his teammates, conceding 50 goals in the Premier League this season and keeping just seven clean sheets.

There have been question marks over his future as a result, which have only been emphasised with the performances of Antonin Kinsky since he was put into the side.

De Zerbi has described Vicario as a “top player”, however, and insisted that he was the number-one, despite selecting Kinsky ahead of him at the end of the campaign following his injury troubles.

It remains to be seen whether the manager will stand by that and insist that the goalkeeper stays, or whether Tottenham complete a deal and look to rebuild their goalkeeping ranks again.

Tottenham Must Rebuild Leadership Ranks

If Tottenham do decide to sell Vicario, then they will be losing a player who has been part of the squad’s leadership circle for the past few seasons.

He isn’t set to be the only one, as Cristian Romero’s potential exit is compounding the impact of a team losing those key voices in the dressing room.

It means that the recruitment team needs to not only look at the profile of players they are bringing in, but what they will offer in the squad dynamics.

Robertson’s impending arrival appears to be just as much about his experience and leadership as it is his quality and depth at left-back.

Spurs have tabled a bid to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton

With so many young players in key areas of the squad, it’s clear that there needs to be some guiding hands within the team who can help progress them into leaders of the future.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will look for more leadership candidates to bring in during the summer window, but it’s clearly an area that needs addressing as much as the need for on-ball quality.

Man Utd Shortlist Iliman Ndiaye For Transfer Raid

Published

Manchester United are looking at options to bolster their forward ranks this summer, and have shortlisted a Premier League star as a potential transfer target, if recent reports are to be believed.

The Red Devils are in the market for several key players, with the midfield being the one area that the recruitment team wants to improve quickly.

Ederson is expected to join from Atalanta this summer, with at least one more midfielder expected to make a move to Old Trafford to play under Michael Carrick.

Beyond that, a left-back is also expected to make a switch, as Man United look to avoid being hit with injuries during a 2026/27 campaign that will feature a return to the Champions League.

While those areas will seemingly take up most of the budget, it seems as though another forward could also be on the club’s radar.

Man United Want Iliman Ndiaye transfer

ndiaye

With the transfer market expected to be filled with deals left, right, and centre, Man United are getting their moves in order, with hopes of landing everyone they want to help strengthen the team.

With that in mind, The Mirror reports that the club have shortlisted Iliman Ndiaye as a player who could help bolster the left-wing for the team this summer.

The Old Trafford outfit are yet to formalise their interest with an approach, with their attention lying elsewhere, but it’s a move that may well activate later in the window.

Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Everton have been keen to discuss the terms of a new contract with the 26-year-old, but there are some differences on both sides.

Particularly surrounding a possible exit clause for the Senegal international, which could be activated this summer if it was to be included with a new extension.

While there are three years left on Ndiaye’s contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the rejection of multiple offers means the Toffees are braced for a fight to keep their star forward.

The report adds that a possible valuation benchmark is based on Anthony Gordon’s transfer to Barcelona, which was €80 million (£69.2 million).

It remains to be seen whether that valuation could put Man United off a deal, with their priorities being elsewhere in the squad, but the rejection of a deal from Ndiaye certainly makes for an interesting saga.

As Manchester United chiefs ponder their next moves in the summer transfer window, there are questions over whether Ndiaye would represent good business or not for the club.

At 26 years old, there are still the peak years of his career ahead of him, along with clear evidence that the star can perform at the top level in the Premier League.

In his time at Everton, Ndiaye has been described as “one of the best dribblers”, having shown his quality when in tight spaces in the final third of the pitch.

A lot of the United squad excel in large spaces, hence the playing style reverting to a more vertical way of progressing the ball that may not work against low blocks.

Ndiaye would be a quality option for those areas, but at £69.2 million, he could prove to an expensive acquisition when there should be priorities placed elsewhere.

Another midfielder after Ederson must be on the cards, while a left-back will also be a key area to look at, making it an expensive summer already.

That’s not to say Ndiaye shouldn’t come in, but much like Benjamin Sesko last summer, he should be the flourish at the end of an already successful window, and not the main deal.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Named the NBA Legend Better Than Jordan and LeBron

Published

on

By

When discussions arise about the greatest NBA players of all time, two names almost always dominate the conversation: Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Whether it was Jordan’s reign with the Chicago Bulls throughout the 1990s, where he captured six championships and five MVP awards, or James’ remarkable longevity and ability to win NBA titles with three different franchises, both legends possess compelling cases for basketball’s GOAT crown.

Another figure whose place in NBA history is firmly established, much like Jordan and James, is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Los Angeles Lakers icon still owns the record for the most MVP awards ever with six, one more than Jordan. Having won championships with both the Milwaukee Bucks and the Lakers, Abdul-Jabbar shared the court with many of the sport’s greatest players, giving him a unique perspective on some of basketball’s most debated topics.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Opinion on NBA GOAT Debate

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Milwaukee Bucks

In fact, despite the endless debate surrounding Jordan and James in the GOAT discussion, Abdul-Jabbar once stated that there is another NBA legend he considers superior to both of them.

Considering how dominant Jordan and James were during their primes, many fans would view them as the toughest possible opponents in a one-on-one match-up. Both combined elite athleticism with extraordinary basketball intelligence, while possessing the competitive drive that made them incredibly difficult to overcome.

However, Abdul-Jabbar believes one of his former teammates deserves even greater praise than either Jordan or LeBron. Interestingly, the Hall of Fame center — often regarded as the greatest center in NBA history — did not choose Lakers stars such as Magic Johnson or James Worthy. Instead, he selected a teammate from his Milwaukee Bucks days.

Leaked conversation reveals how Michael Jordan really feels about LeBron James

“LeBron is awesome, MJ was awesome — but I think Oscar Robertson would have kicked them both in the behind. Absolutely. Oscar was awesome. He had brains. […] He had all the skills. He could rebound and box out guys four and six inches taller than him. He was ruggedly built. He had fluid, quickness, and just understood the game. No flair, he just got the job done every night. Who’s going to average double figures in points, assists and rebounds?”

It’s evident that Abdul-Jabbar holds his former Bucks teammate in extremely high regard, even calling him the greatest point guard the NBA has ever seen, ahead of the player many fans place at number one, Magic Johnson.

Oscar Robertson, Cincinnati Royals

Long before Russell Westbrook emerged, Robertson set the standard for point guards, impacting every area of the game, including rebounding. A 12-time All-Star, the ‘Big O’ captured the NBA MVP award in 1964 and also earned MVP honours in that season’s All-Star Game.

That campaign came two years after Robertson became the first player in league history to average a triple-double across an entire season. He remained the only player to achieve the feat until Westbrook and, later, Nikola Jokic joined him. Robertson also led the NBA in assists six times, including three consecutive seasons from 1964 to 1966, and earned spots on the league’s 35th, 50th, and 75th anniversary teams.

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan Named the Only Player He Truly Hated During NBA Career

Michael Jordan made a fair few enemies during his illustrious NBA career, but one man stood out more than most when it came to hatred.

Standing 6-foot-5, Robertson possessed virtually every quality a team could want from a floor general. He finally secured an NBA championship in 1971 alongside Abdul-Jabbar. While younger fans who have witnessed the brilliance of Jordan and James may struggle to imagine a player surpassing them, Robertson’s Hall of Fame career and revolutionary style made him one of the most influential talents the game has ever seen.

Although Abdul-Jabbar may naturally be influenced by his personal connection to Robertson, that should not diminish just how exceptional Robertson was during the peak years of his career.
