Enzo Maresca’s Huge Claim After Chelsea 3-0 Barcelona
The Ballon d’Or race might see Estevao and Lamine Yamal step up to the podium as rivals for years to come, judging by Enzo Maresca’s assessment of the duo after Chelsea‘s 3-0 win over 10-man Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
In what was billed as the battle of the teenage wonderkids ahead of the game, it was Estevao who outshone Yamal with his best performance yet in Blues colours. He starred and scored a stunner in the victory at Stamford Bridge with Jules Kounde’s own goal and Liam Delap’s finish, handing the hosts one of their most famous European triumphs.
Yamal was a shadow of his usual exhilarating best, kept quiet by a superb defensive display from Marc Cucurella, who rightly earned the man of the match award. The Spaniard is playing with two of the best teens in world football for club and country and his manager believes they are heirs to two of the all-time greats.
Maresca’s Yamal and Estevao Claim
While it was a night to forget for Yamal it was one to cherish for Estevao whose strike will go down as one of the best in the competition this season. He gave Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia no chance, thumping the ball into the roof of the net for his side’s second.
Maresca opted to bring the 18-year-old off in the 83rd minute ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Arsenal. But he waxed lyrical not only about his Brazilian gem but also Barca’s Yamal when speaking to beIN SPORTS:
“It has been a fantastic night for the players, for the club, for the fans… As Raphinha said, Estevao and Yamal will probably be the next Messi and Ronaldo.”
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo duelled for a decade as Europe’s untouchable duo and that included a tug-of-war over the Ballon d’Or award. Both have exited European football, opening the door for two of the current generation to step up and fill their boots.
Yamal had long been tipped to do so, with many handing him the nickname ‘the next Messi’ but Estevao, dubbed ‘Messinho’ in his homeland, is the new name on everyone’s lips, certainly after tonight’s performance. Even Spanish media pointed out that he was the star of the show on a night this year’s Ballon d’Or runner-up “ghosted”.
Can Yamal and Estevao Replace Messi and Ronaldo?
Many of the current generation have been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Messi and Ronaldo and dominate world football. That includes the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinícius Junior, and Erling Haaland.
But Yamal and Estevao could well be rivalling for the sport’s top prizes individually and as part of a team because they are two tricksters who play ‘the beautiful game’, as Pele once put it. Their styles of play have fans off their feet each time they venture forward on the ball, and there is a feeling of inevitability when through on goal.
That said, trying to find heirs to Messi and Ronaldo is an impossible mission, at least from a statistical point of view. It will take some doing for the teenage duo to come anywhere close to achieving what the longtime rivals have in the game.
Maresca and Raphinha are well within their rights to make such bold predictions. But it’s fairer to let the pair make names for themselves rather than be thrown into conversations about succeeding the most decorated player in history and the greatest goalscorer the game has ever seen.
Estevao Could Have Been Battling Yamal in El Clasico
Estevao was in demand when Chelsea came calling for his signature in May 2024, signing him ahead of that summer transfer window to ensure they got their hands on Brazil’s next big thing. But it could have been all so different had Real Madrid chosen to rival the Blues for his signature and not cooled interest once a £29 million deal with Palmeiras was agreed.
Madrid were keen on the Selecao sensation and ESPN in Brazil reports that he was “analysed” and the decision not to swoop is now viewed with “some regret”. He’d have been ideal in the La Liga giants’ current situation with Vinicius Junior refusing to extend his contract due to a rift with manager Xabi Alonso.
Estevao could have been putting on a show like tonight, but in El Clasico if he were to have joined Los Blancos. That will have given analysts a better chance to assess whether we are talking about the next Messi and Ronaldo, who went toe-to-toe in the biggest rivalry in Europe.

Michael Bisping Predicts Topuria vs Gaethje and Gane vs Pereira
The UFC is preparing for arguably the biggest card in their history next month, when the organisation takes over the White House to celebrate America’s birthday.
The USA will turn 250 years old this summer, and as a result, President Donald Trump is planning a major party across the country, with a number of events planned to align with the celebrations. One of those will be a huge eight-fight UFC card, headlined by Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje, while Alex Pereira will move up to heavyweight to compete with Ciryl Gane for the interim belt, and a chance to become a three-weight champion.
The event will take place on the 14th June, from the south lawn of the White House, and former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is anticipating some huge clashes. Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, via prediction market experts Casino.org, the Brit has now shared his thoughts on the landmark card.
Exclusive: Bisping Predicts Pereira vs Gane
The co-main event will see Pereira take on Gane for the interime heavyweight championship, with the winner expected to face off against current undisputed champion Tom Aspinall later this year.
Pereira has previously held undisputed gold at middleweight and light heavyweight, and he will be looking to become the first ever three-weight world champion in the organisation’s history. But Bisping has now revealed that after seeing sparring footage, he is leaning towards Gane being the victor.
“There’s been a lot of footage recently of Alex Pereira sparring heavyweights like Tallison Teixeira,” he said.
“You can’t read too much into sparring footage, but if you look at that, Teixeira was clipping him quite a lot. Granted, he is 6 ‘9, he is gigantic for the division, but Ciryl Gane is very light on his feet. He’s used to fighting at heavyweight. He’s used to moving and operating at weighing 260 pounds.
“I said I would never doubt him (Alex Pereira) again after what he did to Magomed Ankalaev, knocking him out in like 60 seconds or something, and now here I am potentially doubting him again because he’s put weight on. He was at 185, he fought at 205, now he’s going up to 265 lbs. Can he do it? Of course, he can.
“He has knockout power, but Ciryl Gane is used to taking shots off heavyweights. He’s very light on his feet. He’s very elusive. He’s very good at kickboxing. He’s used to taking heavyweight shots, and he’s used to knocking out heavyweights. So, I’m leaning towards Ciryl Gane.”
Exclusive: Bisping Predicts Topuria vs Gaethje
Following the conclusion of that bout, the lightweight championship will also be contested in the main event, when the undefeated Topuria defends his belt for the first time against American Gaethje.
The Spaniard comes into the fight as a heavy favourite, having knocked out Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Charles Oliveira in his last three fights, and Bisping told GIVEMESPORT that he is on the same train, expecting Topuria to come out victorious once again.
“I don’t think I’m gonna surprise anyone by saying I think Ilia Topuria does this,” he said. “He’s surgical, he’s precise, he’s got absolutely insane power.
“Justin’s got power, he knocked out Dustin Poirier, but the difference is that we routinely see this from Ilia Topuria. He knocks people out back to back. Max Holloway, Volkanovski, Charles Oliveira. And before he beat Oliveira, Charles tried to take him down, and within seconds, Ilia had him in a crucifix. And then he gets back to his feet, and he knocks him out cold.
“Justin’s great, Justin’s awesome, we’re all fans of Justin, but Justin’s got a lot of miles on the clock. And Justin went toe-to-toe with Paddy for 5 rounds and took a lot of damage. Ilia’s talking [about] his one shot. I think he will land that one shot. I mean, he’s saying that he’s gonna break his jaw in the first 15 seconds. You never know, we might see that.
“Justin Gaethje is a tough guy, though. You never know, maybe we have an upset on our hands. That’s mixed martial arts, it happens all the time. But the smart money’s on Ilia Topuria.”

Tommy Fury Forgot the Rules of Football at Soccer Aid 2024
The 2026 edition of Soccer Aid takes place at West Ham’s London Stadium on Sunday evening, with ex-professionals and celebrities stepping on to the pitch to raise money for charity in the annual battle between England and the Rest of the World.
While every celebrity deserves credit for giving up their time for such a good cause, the quality of celebrity players on show has been known to vary considerably.
Professional boxer and former Love Island star Tommy Fury is known for what he can do with his fists rather than his feet. However, he showed that he needed to brush up on his knowledge of the rules of football during appearance at Soccer Aid in 2024.
Despite being born in Manchester, Fury qualified to play for the World XI due to his mother’s Mauritian heritage, as well as his father, John, being of Irish Traveller descent.
Tommy Fury’s Performance at Soccer Aid 2024
His appearance in the match, which was held at Stamford Bridge, went viral for all the wrong reasons. Although he put in plenty of effort, it’s fair to say that Tommy wasn’t a natural on the pitch. At one point, he produced an air shot as he wound up for a strike from distance but missed the ball completely.
However, worse was to come in the form of a viral moment where he appeared to totally forget the rules of the game.
Fury attempted to take a throw-in for the World XI during the first half, but rather than releasing the ball from behind his head, he rolled the ball onto the pitch underarm, much to the amusement of many viewers at home. World XI manager Mauricio Pochettino saw the funny side of it as he keeled over laughing in the dug-out.
Fury’s Dodgy Throw-In
Unsurprisingly, given that one of their players didn’t seem to fully know the rules of the game, the World XI fell to a convincing 6-3 defeat in the match.
Joe Cole opened the scoring for England before Eden Hazard and Alessandro Del Piero turned the game around for the visitors.
Ellen White equalised after a brilliant piece of skill from Jack Wilshere on the half-hour mark, and England didn’t look back from there, with entrepreneur Steven Bartlett scoring twice, and ex-professional players Jermain Defoe and Theo Walcott also getting on the scoresheet.
Of the non-pros on show, Bartlett was the pick of the bunch, while Tom Grennan and England cricketer Stuart Broad also acquitting themselves well. Bartlett was only denied a hat-trick by a brilliant save from former world champion boxer Tony Bellew, who came on for the World XI as a half-time substitute for Petr Cech.
Fury won’t be involved in Sunday night’s game. The 27-year-old is currently preparing for his boxing bout with former world’s strongest man, Eddie Hall on the 13th of June.

Premier League Legend Was Banned From Soccer Aid After ‘String of Complaints’
Despite being a charity event, one Premier League legend has been banned from participating in Soccer Aid following a “string of complaints.” The much-anticipated event has taken place every year for the last 20, and this year’s match – set for West Ham’s London Stadium on May 31 – boasts a star-studded lineup.
A host of high-profile ex-footballers and celebrities have been confirmed for the game, which will see Robbie Williams go head-to-head in the dugout with Olympic icon and world’s fastest man Usain Bolt to raise money for UNICEF. Jordi Alba leads the football debutants, alongside female stars Jen Beattie and Ali Krieger, all of whom will play for the Rest of the World team.
Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe, Theo Walcott, Toni Duggan, Joe Hart, and Steph Houghton are among the England stars, while history will be made as actor Owen Cooper becomes the youngest-ever player and first-ever teenager after his role in the hit Netflix series ‘Adolescence’. But while bigger names help raise more money for charity, one of the Premier League’s biggest stars finds himself alone on the ban list.

Some huge names have been booked for the charity football match.
The Three-Time Premier League Winner Banned From Soccer Aid
Yaya Toure – a Manchester City legend and widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation after winning three Premier League titles – played 73 minutes in the 2018 Soccer Aid at Old Trafford and was set to feature for the Rest of the World again in 2020. However, he exited the squad in disgrace.
Toure was axed from the fixture after The Sun reported that he had offered to hire sex workers for his teammates at the five-star hotel in a message sent in the WhatsApp group chat. The Ivorian also posted a video of a naked woman in a bath in the chat, which included female players and stars from both teams.
UNICEF and ITV received a “string of complaints” about Toure’s message, and he was criticised at breakfast in the hotel on the following Friday morning. After it was concluded his “behaviour didn’t align with the values of the event and its cause,” the former Barcelona midfielder was removed from the lineup and forced to issue an apology on social media for his “inappropriate joke”.
Yaya Toure’s Apology After Soccer Aid Controversy in 2020
“I would like to apologise to everyone involved in Soccer Aid for an inappropriate joke I deeply regret,” Toure wrote on X once the dust had settled on his misconduct. “It was meant as a joke, however, I lacked thorough consideration for the feelings of all the other participants. That being said, I deleted the jokes within minutes and I immediately apologised to all inside the group.”
“We gather for a good cause and this deviates the focus of the game which is to bring everyone together to help children around the world. It’s sad to see an inappropriate joke I made attract the attention which should be fully devoted to the beauty of the charity game.
“Regardless of the circumstances, I want to take full responsibility. I am a grown man who should not be engaged in such jokes. I am very sorry for my mistake and wish everyone all the best with Soccer Aid on Sunday in raising awareness and funds for important causes.”
That year’s Soccer Aid fixture was played behind closed doors and saw England win 4-3 on penalties. Toure has not been invited back to play in Soccer Aid since but made a surprise appearance on Sky Sports on Sunday after watching Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea, where he came under fire for his comments about the current Premier League leaders.
