Labour Party picks Muhammed Rilwanu Lawal as Kaduna governorship flagbearer
Muhammed Rilwanu Lawal has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State for the 2027 general election.
The primary election, which took place in Kaduna on Saturday, witnessed a large turnout of party members who participated in the selection of aspirants to represent the party in the 2027 general elections.
The exercise was generally described as peaceful and orderly.
The chairman of the Labour Party Governorship Election Committee, Dr Oluwa Femi, commended the manner in which the exercise was conducted, saying it demonstrated the unity and cohesion among party members despite their differences.
He said, “Labour Party is the only political party in Nigeria with a clear ideology that embraced all Nigerians as members. It is a true party that truly stands for the well-being of Nigerians.”
A former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 Kaduna State election, Mr Jonathan Asake, praised party members for the peaceful and organised conduct of the exercise. He noted that the understanding among aspirants paved the way for the emergence of consensus candidates for other political offices.
All other positions, including those for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly, were filled through consensus.
Those who emerged as senatorial candidates are Abdu Aliyu for Kaduna North Senatorial District, Eld. Dr Yusuf Solomon Danbaki for Kaduna Central Senatorial District and Amos Sheyin for Kaduna South Senatorial District.
For the House of Representatives, Barr. Yayai Iliya Dadai for Kaura Federal Constituency, Saidu James Yakubu for Kagarko Federal Constituency, Emmanuel Bala for Kaduna South Federal Constituency, Dr Emmanuel Barau for Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency, Abubakar Bello for Igabi Federal Constituency and Comrade Saratu Larai Shekari for Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency all emerged as candidates through consensus.

Garba Emmanuel Bajimai for Lere Constituency, Muhammed Sani Aliyu for Makarfi Constituency and Lawal Abdullahi for Kaduna South Constituency.

2027: Nothing can stop me – Atiku likens himself to Abraham Lincoln
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that nothing can stop him from winning the 2027 election because he’s full of life and energy.
Atiku said he has contested and lost presidential and governorship elections severally, like the former United States President, Abraham Lincoln.
In an interview with Jaji TV Hausa, Atiku recalled how he contested the governorship seat in Adamawa State four times but the elections were cancelled by the military administration, only for him to win at that fifth attempt.
He said: “I am fit, healthy and full of energy, nothing can stop me. Let me tell you this, long before I ever won a governorship election, I contested four times, and each time the military regimes cancelled the process.
“It was only on my fifth attempt that I succeeded and became Vice President of Nigeria. This is nothing new in politics. How many times did Abraham Lincoln lose elections before he finally became President of the United States?”

Osun election: Atiku’s aide blames Fadahunsi’s threat on Tinubu
Mr Demola Olarenwaju, the Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s “all is fair” comment has set the stage for extreme action ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
Olarenwaju blamed Osun East senator, Francis Fadahunsi’s alleged inflammatory comment on Tinubu’s statement.
Fadahunsi came under criticism after a video surfaced in which he was allegedly heard directing his supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party ahead of the election.
The senator, however, denied calling for violence, saying he instructed his supporters to “kill Accord” with votes, not through physical attacks.
However, Olarenwaju said Fadahunsi should be arrested and prosecuted for his remarks.
Posting on X, he wrote: “That Fadahunsi is still going to the TV station instead of the police station is confirmation of federal compromise.
“The laughable AI claims are an insult to our collective intelligence, and I wish he would be bold enough to double down on his evil directives to his APC thugs.
“Bola Tinubu’s ‘all is fair in politics’ statement has laid the foundation for extreme actions by APC persons, with Osun as the first experiment and Fadahunsi as the first APC chieftain caught on camera acting accordingly.
“He should be arrested and prosecuted immediately. Fadahunsi should at least be kept under house arrest for the duration of the rest of the campaigns in Osun until a winner is announced—to be forewarned is to be forearmed.
“The blatant preferential treatment for APC by the federal police is unacceptable by any democratic standard.”
