Fubara’s defection shows indecisiveness – ADC claims
The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, without first consulting Rivers people.
DAILY POST recalls that Governor Fubara on Tuesday, confirmed that he would be joining the APC during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House.
Fubara explained that his decision to defect was taken in the interest of Rivers people, adding that he had received the approval of President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting to the development, Sampson said it was not enough for the Governor to meet with a few supporters and claim he had consulted them before leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the APC.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, the ADC Chairman said the move was largely expected but argues that no serious Rivers person would take Governor Fubara seriously, describing him as “inconsistent and indecisive.”
He said, “No Rivers person that is a serious person will take Governor Fubara serious. It’s very obvious, he has been a man that has been very inconsistent and indecisive about what he should do.
“And we are not surprised that, he has as a baby, a suckling, he has ran to the APC, probably at the request of the Presidential or he went to beg the President that he wants to join the APC.
“Which ever way, in his speech, he said the President is the reason why he is still the Governor today and that if joining the APC is a way of telling the President thank you.
“The truth is that, has Governor Fubara consulted Rivers people that gave him that mandate?
“You cannot put a group of people together and say they’re your supporters and that you have consulted with them or you’ve come back to come and speak on behalf of Rivers people to say you are defecting to the APC.”
Sampson added that the Governor’s defection further shows that many individuals entrusted with leadership positions in Nigeria are “indecisive” and unable to take a firm stand on critical issues.
He, however, described the situation as a positive development for the ADC, insisting that Nigerians have rejected the APC due to the hardship and insecurity facing the country.
According to him, the defection presents an opportunity for the ADC to engage Rivers people and provide a credible alternative.
“Most of the people that we entrust leadership to them are people that are very indecisive, are people that cannot take a stand in any issue.
“For the ADC, it’s a good omen for us. It shows that Rivers people, Nigeri have rejected the APC.
“So, Fubara joining them, it also means that him Fubara has also rejected Rivers people and it is an opportunity for the ADC to harvest the good people of Rivers State that are willing, that don’t want to die.
“The APC that we’re talking about that Governor Fubara has gone to join is the APC that has brought poverty to Nigerians, brought poverty to Rivers State, killings.
“People are dying everyday, terrorism, banditry everywhere. You cannot travel by road in this country. And that’s the same APC government that Fubara has now announced that he’s going.
“So, for we in the ADC we don’t take him seriously. It’s an opportunity for us to reach out to Rivers people and give Rivers people a credible alternative, which is the ADC.”
Responding to concerns that the ADC has been quiet despite its ambition to become the main opposition party, Sampson explained that the party was working strategically behind the scenes.
He said that when the time is right, the ADC will fully unveil its plans and make its position known to the people.

No plans to leave APC – Ganduje insists amid defection claims
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed reports that he has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, insisting that he remains a committed member of the APC.
Ganduje described as false and politically motivated the posters circulating on social media alleging that he had left the ruling party.
He said, “The claims were part of a deliberate misinformation campaign aimed at misleading the public, creating confusion among APC supporters, and generating unnecessary political speculation.”
In a statement issued by his former Commissioner for Information and Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, the former Kano State governor stressed that $he has never considered leaving the APC, a party he once led as National Chairman”.
He maintained that reports linking him to the NDC lack both political and logical basis.
Ganduje further stated that the APC remains the country’s largest political party and continues to gain support under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the party’s leadership to advance the President Bola Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The former APC chairman also revealed that those responsible for producing and circulating the alleged defection posters had been identified. He warned that legal action would be taken if the materials were not withdrawn and the spread of the claims did not stop immediately.
He urged party members, supporters and the general public to disregard the posters, insisting that they do not reflect his political position or intentions.

Why no one from South-East was eligible to be Atiku’s running mate – Kenneth Okonkwo
Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has refuted claims of opposing the selection of Rotimi Amaechi as the party’s vice presidential candidate.
He further clarified that no individual from the South-East was qualified to be chosen as Atiku’s vice presidential candidate as they were not registered members of the ADC prior to the primary election.
Okonkwo had rejected the Atiku-Amaechi ADC presidential ticket after the party made the announcement.
Okonkwo criticized the ADC’s decision to select the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, from the South-South as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, asserting that the position should have been allocated to someone from the South-East.
Okonkwo also vowed not to campaign for Atiku if his running mate is not from the South-East.
However, speaking on Channels TV on Thursday, Okonkwo was asked if he still holds that view. He responded, “I do not know where you got that from.”
Asked if he supports Rotimi Amaechi as the vice presidential candidate of the ADC, he added, “First and foremost, he is the choice of the party and everybody that is a loyal party member.
“I said I expected that the Vice President should come from South-East. It was a geopolitical expression, not the person of anybody, and of course I understood the limitations within the Electoral Act 2026 Remember, for anybody to be eligible to contest, you must have been a member 21 days before the primary, so the people from the South-East that I would have preferred, strictly speaking, were not even registered members, so we are restricted.
“Rotimi Amaechi, Hayatu-deen, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, these were the people that were showing interest to contest the presidential election, and then when Peter Obi left, South-East was thrown into confusion, and you have to pick a vice president that has elicited interest that he wants to embark on the onerous duty of campaigning around the nation.
“Amaechi got up to 500 and something voters in the primary, you cannot alienate them. What I was agitating is that even if you have constraints, you ought to get the people of South-East and sit down with them and say, look, these are my constraints. Then they will know what they will present to their people.
“Atiku was not in Nigeria when the party made the announcement, he traveled, so when he came in, he did the needful. If you recall, and that is the beauty of this great democrat. When he came in, everything was halted. When he came in, he went into dialogue, called all the parties.”

Tinubu has cornered INEC, security agencies, judiciary – Lawyer laments
A Kaduna-based legal practitioner, Al-zubayr Abubakar, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu has cornered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the security agencies and the judiciary.
Abubakar made the claim in an interview with JKD TV, a Kaduna-based television.
According to him, no leader, even during the era of military dictatorship and repression has ever governed the way Tinubu is currently governing, alleging that court judges, who are supposed to stand for justice, have all been brought under his influence.
The lawyer further lamented that all of Nigeria’s security agencies work for Tinubu rather than for the country.
He added that the President has crippled INEC and has it firmly under his control, stressing that it is the reason opposition parties are constantly being plunged into one problem after another.
The lawyers said, “Today, all of Nigeria’s security agencies work for Tinubu rather than for Nigeria. If I were to insult Tinubu here right now, you would immediately see the DSS and the police. They wouldn’t even stop to question you, they would simply say you had insulted the nation. Is Tinubu the nation?
“To make matters worse, the judges, who are supposed to stand for justice, have all been brought under his influence. So if you have a legal case, would you truly have the confidence to take it to court? How can the police treat opposition parties fairly?
“How can INEC be expected to act impartially? Look at what happened to the PDP. The Supreme Court delivered a judgment against the Wike faction, yet INEC continues to recognize and work with that faction. Under such circumstances, how can Nigerians have confidence that INEC will conduct a free and fair election?”
