Piers Morgan Thinks 8 Nations Should Consider Boycotting
A huge claim has been made that eight major World Cup nations should consider ‘pausing participation’ in this year’s competition due to Donald Trump’s actions in recent weeks.
The President of the United States has caused huge controversy in the world of politics, with much speculation that could carry into football. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the USA – along with Canada and Mexico – which has raised some doubts over the competition.
Trump has been heavily involved in the build-up to the showpiece tournament, which kicks off in just five months. He was controversially handed the newly-created FIFA Peace Prize at the December draw, and has only caused more problems since.
Piers Morgan Tells England and Other Nations to Boycott World Cup
A lot of countries have been left wondering exactly where they stand after Trump’s administration announced its travel ban list in 2025, which has since grown. That’s just one of the huge questions surrounding the World Cup.
The latest controversy the 79-year-old has embroiled himself in is his headstrong pursuit of Greenland. In fact, Trump has threatened several European nations with tariffs if they stand in America’s way.
Among all the chaos, there have even been calls for the US to be stripped of hosting duties, while German politician Jurgen Hardt suggested the four-time winners could ‘boycott’ the tournament as a last resort to make Trump see sense on the Greenland issue.
Following on from that, well-known British journalist Piers Morgan has hinted that eight nations, including England, should consider boycotting the World Cup. He posted to X (formerly Twitter):
“Maybe England, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway and Italy should all pause participation in the World Cup while the various tariff negotiations continue with President Trump? 8 of the 10 favoured teams to win withdrawing might concentrate some minds.”
As Morgan stated, all eight of those European countries are among the favourites to lift the biggest international trophy this summer. Italy are the only one yet to seal qualification, but still have a play-off chance.
Trump Accused of Banning Fans From World Cup Nations
While there have been calls for European nations to withdraw their participation, more countries have been left in the dark over whether their fans will be able to travel to the United States.

The US president has also continued to lament his desires of acquiring Greenland after threatening NATO with tariffs.
According to a recent report, the US State Department instructed consular officers to deny visas from 75 countries, 15 of which have already qualified for the World Cup. They include Brazil, Colombia and Egypt.

Man Utd Prepare First Bid To Sign Mateus Fernandes
Manchester United are ready to make their move to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, according to Fabrizio Romano.
United are in the market for central midfielder signings this summer, with Ederson the first name through the door in a £38million deal from Atalanta.
Manager Michael Carrick wants to bring in more than one in the position, however, following the departure of Casemiro at the end of his contract and the lack of trust in Manuel Ugarte, whom United are willing to listen to offers for.
Man Utd do not want to battle Man City for Anderson
United have been linked with a number of big-name signings in midfield, with Elliot Anderson understood to be their number one priority. However, they are not willing to break the bank for the Nottingham Forest man, nor enter into a bidding war with Manchester City, who have already had a £105million bid rejected by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
That will see them look elsewhere for signings and Fernandes emerged late on in the 2025/26 season as a potential United deal. With West Ham being relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season too, it looked like one Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United hierarchy could get done.
However, the Hammers have stuck by their £85million price tag, meaning United will have to pay up.
The Red Devils have been in talks with the player and his representatives over a move to Old Trafford for some time now, and it appears that United are ready to go to the Hammers officially with a bid to sign the 21-year-old ‘superstar’.
Man Utd ready to make their move for Fernandes
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Manchester United are in official contact with the agent of the player. Manchester United have already started the conversation with the agent to start preparing a bid to West Ham, so Man United are for sure in conversations with Mateus Fernandes.”
West Ham only signed Fernandes in a £38million deal from Southampton a year ago, with the 21-year-old unwilling to play in England’s second tier after the Saints slipped through the Premier League trapdoor.
His feelings are likely to be the same this time around and according to journalist Shaun Connolly, Fernandes has made it clear that his preference is to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
Fernandes started all but one of West Ham’s Premier League matches he was available for this season after making the move from St Mary’s, having played three times for Southampton in the Championship.

Mo Salah ‘Very Keen’ to Join Fenerbahce as Talks Held
Mohamed Salah could make a shock move to an unlikely European club this summer following his departure from Liverpool.
The Egyptian became a free agent this summer after his incredible nine-year spell at the Reds came to an end. During his time at Liverpool, he scored 257 times in 442 matches and helped the club to nine trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League.
Despite now being 33 years old, Salah is still capable of playing at a very high level and will have no shortage of suitors.
There has been speculation that a move to the Saudi Pro League is on the cards, but now a move to a European club is being touted.
Salah Holds Positive Talks With European Club
It now appears Salah, still considered one of the best wingers in world football, is closing in on a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce after allegedly holding positive talks with the European giants.
During the presidential election at Fenerbahce, candidate Aziz Yildrim told reporters that he would try to sign Salah. He said, per Football365:
“He would ask for a three-year contract, and the total cost would be 90 million Euros (£77m). If he is our urgent need, we will sign him! Our football committee will decide on these matters.”
Yildrim went on to win the presidential election at Fenerbahce. Ertan Torunogullari, who was a board member at the Turkish club’ before departing last week, has now claimed that the club had held positive talks with Salah.
“He was very keen on coming to Turkiye. The meetings we had were extremely positive,” he told Fotospor, per ThisIsAnfield.
“We had established common ground with him on many issues, including his salary. I believe that if the new management makes such a request, Salah will wear the Fenerbahce jersey. We would be happy to work with the new management on the negotiations.”
A plethora of high profile players currently play for Fenerbahce, including N’Golo Kante, Fred, Matteo Guendouzi, Ederson and Marco Asesnio.

Salah spoke out about his future last month. He said: “I will still see [about where to go next], I have time now, I am going to the World Cup and then everything will be clear, either if there is a good opportunity before it I will decide, and if it is not there, I will make my decision after the World Cup.”
Salah will play a huge role in Egypt’s World Cup campaign. The Pharaohs, who have been drawn in Group G, kickstart their campaign with a tricky match against Belgium on Monday, June 15. A game against New Zealand on Sunday, June 21 follows, before they conclude their group stage against Iran on Friday, June 26.

Disturbing Reason He’s Been Banned From Golf Club
Golf legend Phil Mickelson has reportedly been kicked out of a San Diego golf club following allegations that he made unwanted physical contact with a female employee.
The initial report from Golf Digest came in the spring, when Mickelson had his membership at The Farms terminated due to an alleged incident.
The employee accused the 55-year-old of “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” towards her before a game of golf, with Mickelson said to have left the property after being challenged.
While an investigation into the allegation was launched by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, no evidence to show that an assault occurred was found. However, they do insist that they “would absolutely investigate further if provided additional evidence or information.”
Golf Club’s Statement Regarding Phil Mickelson
The Farms confirmed the expulsion without naming Mickelson in their new statement sent to Golf Digest.
“Following a staff member’s report of member misconduct, the club provided immediate and ongoing support to the staff member, conducted a thorough independent investigation of the incident, and took decisive action. This individual is no longer a member of The Farms Golf Club.”
20 Golfers With Highest Career Earnings on PGA Tour
Three golfers have now earned over $100,000,000 on the PGA Tour, including Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
In addition to this, they further added: “To protect the safety and privacy of our staff and member, we are unable to speak further on the matter.”
The Farms is a private club located in Rancho Santa Fe. It is known for its exclusivity, boasting several well-known attendees such as Annika Sorenstam and Xander Schauffele.
Spokesperson For Mikelson Releases Statement
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Mickelson addressed the allegations with his side of the story.
“Any misunderstanding has been cleared up. Phil continues to attend to a family health matter and is uncertain when he will be able to return to professional golf,” they told Golf Digest.
This isn’t the first controversy that the six-time Major winner has been embroiled in. Back in 2022, he lost major sponsorships and faced backlash after using expletives to describe the Saudi Arabian investment fund. Furthermore, he was involved in an insider training scheme before that, having to repay the almost $1 million sum that he earned from it.
For many, there’s a sense of disappointment regarding Mickelson, especially as these scandals continue to tarnish his legacy. At 50 years old, he became the oldest Major champion in golf history, when he won the 2021 PGA Championship. Once a fan-favourite, now cast away due to more problems.
