The Staggering Amount of Money Chelsea Paid Raheem Sterling in 25/26
Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea after falling out of favour under Enzo Maresca and with no way back into Liam Rosenior’s plans – and the Englishman will have no doubt of would-be suitors given his status among clubs in the Premier League. A high-profile player, of course, the 31-year-old has earned a pretty penny following his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022 and that remained the case throughout the 2025/26 season despite not playing a single minute.
Formerly of Liverpool and Manchester City, Sterling donned the Chelsea strip for one last time in their final match of the 2023/24 campaign. A 2-1 win over Bournemouth, the fleet-footed wide man doubled the Blues’ lead on that day, but little did he know that he’d never play for the club again.
Fast-forward 18 months, and he’s no longer associated with the four-time Premier League wingers after it was finalised that his contract, which initially saw him on the club’s books until the summer of 2027, would be prematurely terminated. Fulham and West Ham United, two clubs in London, have emerged as the early front-runners for his signature... but will either side be able to afford his take-home?
Eye-Watering Amount of Money Sterling Earned During Stint at Chelsea
When the seasoned winger first moved to west London, big things were expected. Owing to his performances on the European stage, many assumed that he’d guide them to glory – but it hasn’t been so plain sailing for the Queens Park Rangers academy graduate, whose numbers once rivalled none other than Lionel Messi.
From keeping up with one of the greatest (if not the!) players in football history to being the face of Chelsea’s bomb squad was a dramatic fall from grace for the Englishman.
While on the books of City, Sterling earned £300,000 on a week-by-week basis after signing a deal in late 2019, four years after his arrival. That mouth-watering figure was bumped up to £325,000 when he moved to the capital and his weekly take-home did not decrease between when he signed on the dotted line (in the summer of 2022) and the moment he left the club in January 2026.

His maiden season, 2022/23, resulted in 13 goal contributions – nine goals and four assists – under Thomas Tuchel, the German’s replacement Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.
2023/24 saw him operate under the guidance of the experienced Mauricio Pochettino, and he looked to be back to his best. His versatility allowed him to play all across the front line and, in 43 matches across all competitions, the four-time winner of the Premier League scored ten goals and added a further 11 assists to his tally.
And then, that was it. Sterling – who is widely regarded as one of the best left wingers in Premier League history – moved to Arsenal in the 2024/25 season after being hung out to dry at Stamford Bridge as a means of getting minutes. Excited were the Emirates Stadium faithful, given Sterling’s serial-winning mentality, but he ultimately flattered to deceive and returned to Chelsea.
During his spell in the north of the capital, Sterling still earned his full wage packet of £325,000-per-week and that was split between the two clubs. Admittedly, the Gunners paid just 20% but, unconvinced, they opted against rolling out a permanent deal at the end of his season-long spell.
Prior to being frozen out by the powers that be at Stamford Bridge, Sterling chalked up 81 appearances following his £50 million deal from City, scoring 19 goals and providing a further 15 assists, but his move has ultimately failed. Chelsea’s willingness to break the bank on the next big thing (think Estevao, Pedro Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk) pushed him further and further away from being the club’s talisman.
Top 10/15 Players That Have Earned Most Money In 25/26
Sterling is not the only Premier League player to have earned big bucks since the start of the 2025/26 campaign; the only difference between the rest and the England international is that he’s not played a single minute. Kai Havertz (in the same time frame) has pocketed £8,400,000 and Manchester City outcast Omar Marmoush is not far behind, having earned £8,850,000 for his three goal contributions to date.
Bernardo Silva of City and Jack Grealish, loaned to Everton from Pep Guardiola’s side, have both pocketed £9,000,000 since the start of the campaign. That’s the same take-home as Manchester United’s talisman-in-chief Bruno Fernandes, who is rightfully admired as one of world football’s best midfielders.
The aforementioned Sterling, who is now without a club, is up next, with him pocketing £9,750,000, which is just short of Casemiro’s £10,500,000. Exactly why the Brazilian midfielder is paid so much is because of his experience at the top level with Real Madrid, but he will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Taking up two of the podium spots is Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. A dark cloud hung over their futures in the summer, but both players put pen to paper on new deals. Reds marksman Salah has been off the boil this season but has still pocketed £12,000,000; Van Dijk, Liverpool’s rock in the heart of the backline, has earned £10,500,000, respectively.
The financial boom in football is swiftly becoming out of hand but if there’s any footballer in England’s top flight that deserves the big bucks, it’s Erling Haaland. A goal-getting revelation for Guardiola since his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, the Norway international has seen a whopping £15,750,000 enter his bank account in the opening 30 weeks of the 2025/26 campaign.

After Van Hecke Bid, Tottenham Face Tough Decision On Luka Vuskovic Future
Tottenham’s summer transfer window is going to be filled with difficult decisions to make, especially when it comes to some players leaving the club in favour of a new challenge.
Cristian Romero could leave Spurs as one of several reluctant deals the club could feel forced to accept, with work already being done to improve the backline.
Marcos Senesi is set to join on a free transfer, with Tottenham looking to land centre-back options with experience and proven Premier League quality in their skillset.
Then there’s the recently rejected bid for Jan Paul van Hecke, as the defender has been linked with a possible reunion with Roberto De Zerbi after playing under him at Brighton.
The knock-on effect of any deal could be huge, however, especially when Tottenham consider the future of one particular defender in their ranks.
Luka Vuskovic Transfer Dilemma
One player who will be watching Tottenham’s transfer dealings with intent is Luka Vuskovic, the young defender who was signed by the club a few years ago, but is yet to feature for the senior side.
A promising young centre-back, the 19-year-old has shown plenty of promise in his spells with Westerlo in Belgium and more recently Hamburg in Germany.
The latest of those loan moves saw Vuskovic come in for plenty of praise in the Bundesliga, as he featured 30 times for the club, making quite the impact in that time on the pitch.
It’s no surprise that the Croatian international has been described as a “generational talent”, but the question is whether Tottenham can tap into that quality and potential at the right time.
A move for Van Hecke, combined with the deal for Senesi and defensive depth that includes Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, and Radu Dragusin means it could be tough for the youngster to see a route into the team.
In that instance, Tottenham could be forced into a difficult decision; stick with Vuskovic for potentially limited game time, or face the possibility that he may push for an exit in the summer.
That isn’t an easy choice to make, as Spurs need to balance a clear improvement in quality for the here and now with the need for some long-term planning.
It’s a decision not too dissimilar from one made by Tottenham’s near and dear rivals Arsenal, who could provide a blueprint to deal with the situation.

Tottenham Can Follow Arsenal Blueprint
Following the lead of bitter rivals Arsenal isn’t easy for Tottenham, but it’s clear that they have done something right in the other half of North London, and taking lessons from that is no bad thing.
More specifically, looking at the potential for an up-and-coming centre-back to make an impact, the Gunners have shown how it is done with William Saliba.
The French defender had several loan spells in France after showing promise at a young age, but it was still a leap of faith that led to Mikel Arteta sticking with him early on his return from Marseille.
That quietened down any talk of a transfer exit, and any possibility of unhappiness, while the centre-back ranks have been secure there ever since.
Forget Savinho: Tottenham Get Green Light to Sign ‘Dangerous’ Forward
Tottenham could be back in the mix for a forward, who looks set to be available in the summer transfer window.
For Spurs, the situation is slightly more complex, but the idea of putting some faith into a youngster who is ready for more game time is worth following.
That may well depend on the outgoings elsewhere, as there may be too many centre-backs fighting for just two places in the team this coming season.
As a result, at worst, the club should look at facilitating another loan but with a clear plan on how to integrate him Vuskovic into the team moving forward.
Failure to do so risks Tottenham losing a top talent for the future.

Arsenal Listening To Transfer Offers For Leandro Trossard
Arsenal are looking at a potentially transformative summer transfer window, with reports claiming that some key members of the squad could leave in the coming months.
That’s because, despite the Gunners sealing the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, the club are not content with it being a one-time achievement.
There is a desire to build a dynasty at the Emirates Stadium, and that means there aren’t just some important decisions to make with incoming transfers, but some ruthless choices to come with exits as well.
One of those who could leave is a player who has been a good servant for Arsenal since joining the club, but may need to part ways to keep the team evolving.
Arsenal Open To Leandro Trossard Exit
According to a report from the Daily Briefing, Arsenal are open to offers for Leandro Trossard in the summer transfer window, as the versatile forward could leave the club.
The 31-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with the Gunners, and it is claimed to be an important factor behind the decision to sanction a possible exit.
Premier League clubs are showing interest, along with other clubs in Europe, as the Belgian international could be available to bolster their own ranks.
It would represent a ruthless move from Arsenal, as Trossard has cemented his place as a cult hero at the Emirates Stadium since joining back in 2023.
The forward was a bargain transfer deal from Brighton, signed at just £20 million up front with £7 million in add-ons, a fee he has paid back with his displays.
Trossard has 174 appearances to his name at Arsenal, which includes 36 goals and 34 assists, many of which have come at important times in games.
Mikel Arteta has previously outlined his love for the reliable star, when he said back in 2024: “Trossard, great player. He’s a little magician.
“He can score on any surface, and he’s a big threat; so composed, so cool, he can play in different positions. It’s just a joy to have him in the team.”
If Arsenal do wave goodbye to Trossard, then they need to find someone who can fill his role and then take the team to the next level.

Arsenal Need Forward Improvements
If there is one thing Arsenal can improve on in the summer transfer window, it’s the quality available to Arteta in the forward ranks.
The Gunners are setup well to defend and win through fine margins, but lack the firepower to take a game away from the opposition with several goals.
While it would be ruthless to sell Trossard, as well as someone like Gabriel Martinelli or Gabriel Jesus, it may be needed to evolve the team to the next level.
The left wing is a particular area of focus, with the Gunners lacking the same consistency on that side as someone like Bukayo Saka on the right.
Arsenal Set Record-Breaking Transfer Price For ‘Rapid’ Bayern Munich Target
Arsenal are looking to make an impact in the transfer market, which could lead to some sales as well as signings.
There has been reliability on the left, especially out of possession, but now appears to be the time for Arsenal to take a risk with a forward who can break a game open.
There have been several links in the market, particularly to Rafael Leao and Bradley Barcola, but it remains to be seen who may be the one to transform the attacking options available.

Jose Mourinho Haunts Man Utd By Joining Transfer Race For Mateus Fernandes
Manchester United could face a difficult battle to land one of their key transfer targets this summer, as former boss Jose Mourinho appears to be in the mix with Real Madrid, according to reports from Spanish outlet AS.
The Red Devils are working hard to bolster the midfield ranks in particular, with Ederson set to join the club from Atalanta, with an agreement reached for the Brazilian star.
The 26-year-old will be the first arrival in the engine room, but there is an expectation that Man United will sign another one, if not two, in the midfield before the end of the summer transfer window.
Plenty of links have emerged surrounding a deal for the likes of Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson, and Carlos Baleba, but there is a battle on the cards for another target instead.
Real Madrid Battle Man United For Mateus Fernandes
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Mateus Fernandes in the transfer market, following an impressive season at West Ham in the Premier League.
Relegation for the Hammers has led to links with a transfer exit, with reports of an £80 million price tag placed on the midfielder as interest gathers around a deal.
The latest team to join the chase for Fernandes is Real Madrid, as the report from AS claims that Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing the Portuguese star to the Bernabeu.
That interest is all dependent on the elections at the club, however, as Mourinho will only be brought in as head coach if Florentino Perez wins the vote on June 7th.
That could give Man United at least a few days to get the groundwork in to complete a deal, but it would be a surprise if any agreement could be reached in such a short time frame.
It means Mourinho could haunt the club once again, eight years on from leaving Old Trafford as the head coach.
Man United Financial Balance
One of the key dilemmas facing Man United in the market is just how much they are willing to spend on the key positions, with the midfield being the priority.
In Ederson, the club have a potential bargain buy for a player who is approaching the peak years of his career, but may not be the one to take the team to the next level.
That will go to the likely next candidate in the midfield, someone who is a younger profile and capable of bringing some on-ball quality that can progress the side forward.
‘Man Utd Had Player Better Than Lamine Yamal – He Should Have Won Ballon d’Or Awards’
Manchester United once had a player who was even more talented than Lamine Yamal, according to one former youth defender
Fernandes could be that, at 21 years old and with plenty of potential, there is clearly a player who can offer some performances in the here and now as well as the future.
However, there are questions over the financial balance in landing a player like that for upwards of £80 million, having recently reset the spending culture at the club in favour of smart signings.
It remains to be seen whether United could be pushed into landing Fernandes for a huge fee, given the competition for his signature, or if they’ll be left considering other options.
