Man Utd Must Make Audacious Move for Carlo Ancelotti
Manchester United senior officials have a big decision over which direction they are going to go when deciding who their permanent manager next season will be.
They have been given a potential unexpected conundrum following the success of caretaker boss Michael Carrick, who was initially appointed until the end of the campaign.
The former Red Devil has fired the club up the table, and Man United will be one of the favourites to secure Champions League qualification for next season as they currently sit third in the table.
It is far from a guarantee though, with United also only three points ahead of sixth-placed Liverpool and the top five spots likely to be the only ones that secure a spot in Europe’s elite club competition for 2026-27.
Carrick has done that by beating the current top two – Manchester City and Arsenal – in his opening two games in charge, before finally suffering defeat against Newcastle United last time out at the eighth attempt.
The World Cup could impact their decision, with managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Julian Nagelsmann potentially becoming available after the tournament.
Man Utd Targeting Julian Nagelsmann
While some reports recently have suggested that Manchester United want to appoint their next manager before the World Cup kicks off on June 11, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs says they are looking at two managers set to take part in the tournament.
One of those is Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, who is viewed as one of the most exciting young managers in Europe, while there is also interest in Portugal’s Roberto Martinez.
While the Spaniard hasn’t managed in club football for 10 years after leaving Everton, Nagelsmann has only been away from club football for three years, having been sacked by Bayern Munich despite having won 60 of his 84 matches at the helm.
TEAMtalk claim that the 38-year-old wants to take over at Old Trafford, but they should be looking to appoint a different World Cup manager instead.
United Should Appoint Ancelotti After Bale Green Light
Speaking on the Overlap podcast, former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale was asked about the Man United manager situation.
The Welshman threw his support behind Carlo Ancelotti, who will manage Brazil at this summer’s World Cup, but is still yet to agree a deal to stay on despite reports it will be happening.
“I think Ancelotti would do an amazing job at Manchester United. Because he would get everyone on board. He would get the best out of every player. You need to simplify things, he is a genius at this.”
While United may find it difficult to convince the Italian to turn his back on Brazil, they at least have to try and speak to him about their project.
Ancelotti has proven he is a born winner with 30 major trophies to his name as manager, including five Champions Leagues and numerous league titles across the major European leagues.
He might be 66 years of age, but he would deliver success for United tomorrow.

Daniel Cormier’s Emotional Reaction to Dustin Poirier’s Arrest
UFC legend Daniel Cormier has offered his reaction after his longtime friend Dustin Poirier was arrested for public drunkenness at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday.
The 37-year-old former UFC interim lightweight champion Poirier was caught on police bodycam footage challenging a police officer to a fight and acting aggressively toward airport staff after seemingly having been removed from his flight due to being drunk.
If found guilty, ‘The Diamond’ could be jailed for up to a year and face a fine of up to $1,000.
Hard Not to Get Lost’ – Cormier’s Message to Struggling Dustin Poirier
Former two-division champion Cormier, who attended the same high school in Louisiana as Poirier, has now called for some empathy toward Poirier and said that the issues that Dustin is going through show the struggles that all professional athletes deal with as they adjust to retirement.
“I think that that showed how hard it is for fighters and athletes to retire,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “It’s hard to not get lost when you walk away from something that’s been so important and that truly becomes your identity.”
“I think we should have some empathy, people should be more careful to judge. Everybody loves Dustin. Dustin’s done some great things. We can’t forget the great work because of a mistake that he made. He’s not the only one. So many people struggle whenever that thing is gone,” Cormier said.
He pleaded with fans:
“Try to uplift the man. Try to uplift the person that’s struggling as opposed to joining the angry mob that is trying to pile onto Dustin Poirier right now.”
Dustin Poirier’s Tough Transition to Life After Fighting
Cormier admitted there were warning signs along the way that Poirier may struggle to adapt to life after fighting. In an earlier interview, the pair discussed the idea of retirement and Poirier said he didn’t know what to expect as he had been fighting since the age of 17.
“I’ve been doing this longer than I haven’t been doing this. I’ve been fighting longer than I haven’t been fighting,” Poirier said, adding that he was scared and that he didn’t know how a regular person went about life. Cormier tried to reassure him and said it would give him freedom to focus on other things.
Poirier addressed his arrest on his Instagram and said that he will get some help as he is having difficulties now that he is no longer fighting in the Octagon, having retired after losing to Max Holloway at UFC 318 last July.
Dustin Poirier Releases Honest and Vulnerable Statement After Bodycam Footage of Arrest Emerges
The Diamond took to Instagram after the police bodycam footage surfaced on social media of his recent arrest.
“I’m at the point where I need some help. Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me and alcohol isn’t the answer,” Poirier said. “It has ruined my father’s life and I will not allow it to ruin mine. My family deserve me at 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.”
Poirier had a storied career in the UFC spanning more than 14 years and over 30 fights. During that time, he won multiple performance bonuses and fought some of the organisation’s biggest names, including Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.

FIFA Allow Rainbow Flags at World Cup ‘Pride Match’ Featuring Iran vs Egypt
FIFA have made a major decision regarding their designated ‘Pride Match’ at the 2026 World Cup, with Iran’s clash against Egypt in Seattle on Sunday night selected for the spotlight fixture.
The match was awarded the designation because it coincides with Seattle’s annual LGBTQ+ celebrations, which are expected to attract around 200,000 people to the area surrounding Lumen Field.
Critics, however, have questioned the optics of staging a Pride fixture since its announcement in December, considering it involves two nations where same-sex relationships are criminalised. In Iran, homosexuality can carry the death penalty, while human rights groups have repeatedly documented crackdowns and arrests targeting LGBTQ+ people in Egypt.
FIFA Make Decision on ‘Pride Match’ Between Egypt and Iran
For some observers, the decision is yet another example of FIFA president Gianni Infantino appearing detached from the political and social realities surrounding the game, and how little influence he holds over such issues.
According to The Telegraph, FIFA has pressed ahead with its plans despite reported efforts by both nations to avoid any association with Seattle’s PrideFest celebrations. The governing body is also expected to allow LGBTQ+ flags inside the stadium, a move that overlooks the potential to heighten tensions around the fixture. A Fifa spokesperson said:
“The FIFA World Cup 2026 is an inclusive event that welcomes people from all backgrounds. Fans of all sexual orientations and gender identities are welcome at matches and events.
“General statements of human rights, including rainbow flags and other flags representing sexual orientation and gender identity, are permitted under the FIFA World Cup 2026 Stadium Code of Conduct and may be displayed inside stadiums provided they are used in a manner consistent with the code.”
Iran and Egypt are understood to want a crackdown on any outward expressions of Pride in the stadium, including the waving of rainbow flags. But those demands are expected to fall on deaf ears, with organisers reported to be hopeful that the match will contribute to positive change.
Hedda McLendon, senior vice-president of legacy for Seattle’s FWC26, told Outsports: “We anticipate a lot of rainbow flags in the stadium and T-shirts with rainbow flags on them. Let’s welcome people to Seattle. It’s the World Cup. And let’s show them how we Pride.”
Jamie Pedersen, the state senator, one of several openly gay members of the Washington State Legislature, said it was “highly appropriate” that the match will feature countries where LGBTQ+ people are unwelcome, and will convey “positive images of folks from the community.”

Iran Release Statement About Pride Match
Iran have made their feelings clear about FIFA’s decision. A spokesperson told the Athletic: “The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran takes this matter seriously and has clearly communicated its position to FIFA.
“Iran and Egypt are two Muslim countries with deep cultural and religious commonalities, and the views expressed by both federations reflects the values and beliefs shared by the people of both countries.
“Our position is that no ceremonies, or promotional activities associated with this movement should be present inside the stadium or as part of the match environment. This position has been communicated to FIFA through the appropriate channels.
“We believe FIFA should take into account the views and concerns of the participating teams when considering matters related to the match environment and stadium presentation.
“FIFA has been informed of this shared position by both countries and is expected to take the necessary steps to ensure that no related ceremonies or promotional activities take place within the stadium or as part of the official match environment.”
Gianni Infantino Continues to Show He’s Out of Touch
Ahead of the tournament, Infantino drew criticism after attempting to orchestrate a symbolic handshake between representatives of Israel and Palestine at FIFA Congress, before later approving plans for the two nations to face one another at an upcoming Under-15s tournament.
Against that backdrop, and other notable instances like awarding Donald Trump the sycophantic gesture of a ‘FIFA Peace Prize’, and his promise that “the world will be welcomed to America” this summer before visa issues left him with egg on his face, the decision to designate Iran versus Egypt as the tournament’s Pride Match has only intensified scrutiny of the organisation’s worrying ability to alienate itself from political realities.
Of course, every religion, culture, and belief should be celebrated and honoured, and the idea of a Pride Match undoubtedly started off as a positive move. But now football’s leaders, having completely ignored Qatar’s human rights issues four years ago, appear to be trying to force it onto nations whose people can face huge consequences for supporting it, and it seems as though they are stuck in their own bubble, cut off from common sense.

Uruguay Players ‘Revolt Against Marcelo Bielsa’ Ahead of Spain Game
Uruguay’s players are reportedly in revolt against Marcelo Bielsa ahead of their final 2026 World Cup group match with Spain.
Uruguay would have been happy when the World Cup draw was made last December. Despite being placed in Group H alongside pre-tournament favourites Spain, Uruguay were easily expected to see off Cape Verde, ranked 67th in the world, and Saudi Arabia, the world’s 61st best side.
However, Bielsa’s side did not get the results they would have wanted from their opening two matches of the tournament.
Uruguay opened up their campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia. They then drew 2-2 with Cape Verde at Miami Stadium.
Those two disappointing results mean that Uruguay now need to avoid defeat to Spain to progress to the last 32 of the competition.
There has been chaos behind the scenes ahead of the crucial game with the reigning European champions, though.
Uruguay’s Players ‘Revolt Against Marcelo Bielsa’
Tensions are high in Uruguay ahead of their match against Spain, according to radio station Espectador Deportes, per ge.globo.
A group of Uruguay players, including Federico Valverde, Rochet, Manuel Ugarte and Rodrigo Bentancur, summoned Bielsa for a meeting ahead of the match.
The players were unhappy with the intense training load and believed that some players had suffered injuries during preparation as a result.
Not only did the players request changes to the training load, they also urged Bielsa to make tactical changes so they could compete with Spain. They asked Bielsa if they could play in a low block and try and hurt their opponents on the counter.
Bielsa wasn’t having any of it, though. He called a team meeting and said that they would play as they have been playing.
According to El Espectador, he also accused players of trying to get rid of him after he stopped calling up Luis Suárez and didn’t include midfielder Nahitan Nández in the World Cup squad.
Bielsa wasn’t done there, though, saying that he had orchestrated the careers of some national team players, such as Sebastián Cáceres and Maxi Araújo.
Some Uruguay players weren’t happy at all and reportedly left the meeting immediately. Jose Maria Gimenez is said to have tried to defuse the situation, but he was unsuccessful in his attempts.

Bielsa is under no illusions as to how important their match against Spain is. In his pre-match press conference, he said, per Reuters: “We are approaching tomorrow’s match as a final. One of the best ways to defend is to make sure the opponent has the ball for less time.”
He also praised Spain boss, Luis de la Fuente. He added, per Yahoo!: “It seems to me that, with the type of soccer that he achieved with Spain, which is unique, and his entire work there, which is significant, it definitely doesn’t reflect my own style.
“It’s a type of soccer a lot more beautiful than what I achieved with my team. The truth is that what he has accomplished with Spain is admirable.”
