Simon Jordan Reacts to John Terry’s ‘Restore Britain’ Controversy

Published

on

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has defended former Chelsea and England captain John Terry following strong criticism over his apparent support for Rupert Lowe and his controversial stance on a proposed burqa ban.

Terry appeared to back calls to ban the burqa in the UK last week, as he posted three clapping emojis and an England flag under Lowe’s post on Instagram that reiterated support for restrictions on face coverings in public.

The former Chelsea defender’s online comments have caused a stir, with some accusing him of endorsing divisive rhetoric, but Jordan has since stepped in to defend his actions.

Speaking on the White & Jordan Show on talkSPORT, Jordan came to Terry’s defence after the former Chelsea defender was caught in controversy over his apparent support for Lowe and a proposed burqa ban. Jordan said:

“Some of Rupert Lowe’s views, I concur with. Some of the other views I don’t concur with.

“And if John Terry concurs with the idea that, in this country, there’s a degree of discomfort around facial coverings, that is not racism. That is an alternative view. You are allowed to have that view.

“But because we live in this stupid, binary world, where if you don’t agree with something, you are a racist, or a misogynist, or an Islamophobe.”

In his aforementioned Instagram post, Lowe shared a photograph of a Muslim woman dressed in a burqa outside a London Underground station displaying Bengali text.

Beneath the post, he wrote: “This picture was taken in London.

“Restore Britain would ban the burqa, and Restore Britain would ensure that all London stations use English and English only. Enough is enough. Vote Restore Britain to get our capital city back.”

A burqa is the clothing worn by some Muslim women that covers their entire body and face, typically featuring a mesh screen over the eyes for vision. Countries such as France, Belgium and Denmark have previously banned the burqa in public spaces.

Lowe Responds to John Terry Criticism

Amid heavy criticism, Lowe, who was once Southampton chairman, leaped to Terry’s defence as well. He posted the same picture and wrote:

“I see that England/Chelsea legend John Terry is taking some flak for applauding Restore Britain’s policy of banning the burqa and ensuring that all London stations use English, and English only.

“This is the position the vast majority of the British people support. There is now a political party that will say exactly what people think and fight to make it happen. Restore Britain.

“If we get called names? WHO CARES. It does not matter. We do not care, and nor should you. This isn’t 2015 anymore. These insults mean nothing. More people need to show some courage and stand up for what the majority thinks. Restore Britain is doing exactly that. We are going to get our country back.”

Pele Claimed Scottish Footballer Was Good Enough to Play For Brazil

Published

Pele was an extraordinary footballer. He made his senior debut for Brazil at just 16 years old and marked the occasion with a goal against Argentina. Only a year later, he netted twice in a World Cup final, helping Brazil secure World Cup success.

He would go on to lift the trophy twice more during his career and score more than 1,000 goals – though there is debate about the precise number. Whatever the exact total may be, there is little argument that he ranks among the greatest footballers in history.

Pele spent the majority of his club career with Santos in Brazil before later joining American outfit New York Cosmos. As a result, he never featured for a European club. However, that did not stop him from following football on the continent.

Indeed, he once identified a Scottish football legend as the only British player he believed was good enough to represent the Brazil national team.

Pele Was Blown Away by Denis Law

Denis Law remains one of the greatest players ever to wear a Manchester United shirt, collecting two league championships, an FA Cup, a European Cup and the Ballon d’Or during the 1960s.

When he passed away at the age of 85 in January 2025, tributes poured in from across the football world. Among those leading the condolences was legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to the BBC, via UnitedInFocus, he recalled a memorable compliment Pele once paid to Law, highlighting just how highly the Brazilian regarded him:

“Trying to place Denis in the pantheon of all-time greats is a challenge.

“But it is made easier by Pele. He was asked if there was a British player who could get in the [great] Brazil team. He said Denis Law – which is a fantastic tribute.”

Ferguson also stated that he believed Law was ‘the greatest Scottish player ever’, adding:

“He was a fantastic player and an incredible human being. The great thing is that he did not use his fame, he was so level-headed and down to earth, and we are talking about a guy who had all of these caps for Scotland and is called the ‘King of Old Trafford’.”

It was certainly a fitting tribute from two football icons to a truly exceptional player.

Pele Also Rated English Defender Bobby Moore

Law was not the only British football great admired by Pele. The Brazilian also had immense respect for England’s World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore. He said:

“It’s hard to say. You see, whoever I played against, I had the best defender marking me, but the best were Bobby Moore and Franz Beckenbauer.”

He later added: “Bob was the best centre-back I’ve seen – so quick up here [points to his head].”

Pele was also a huge admirer of Sir Stanley Matthews, saying the English Ballon d’Or winner “taught us the way football should be played.”

It’s unfortunate that British supporters did not get the opportunity to watch more of Pele in person. Nevertheless, when he arrived in England for the 1966 World Cup, he was already the most famous footballer on the planet, allowing local fans to witness his brilliance first-hand. Unfortunately, injuries limited his impact, and Brazil exited the competition in the first round after playing only three matches.

Arsenal Prepare Bid For Top Target After Making Contact With Rivals

Arsenal are preparing a second offer to tempt a move for Bruno Guimaraes, according to the Daily Mail, as the Gunners make the Newcastle midfielder one of their top targets this summer.

It comes after an initial proposal for the Brazilian was turned down by the Magpies, with Mikel Arteta keen to get a deal over the line for him in the coming weeks.

The Arsenal midfield ranks have come into focus this summer for potential reinforcements, with an expected exit for Christian Norgaard likely to create space in the squad for an arrival.

With Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly at his disposal, Arteta is now seemingly looking for another midfield generalist who can offer some quality.

Guimaraes is now in their sights, and another move is being prepared.

Arsenal don’t appear to be slowing down in their pursuit of Guimaraes this summer, as the Daily Mail reports that a second offer is now expected from the Premier League champions.

That is despite the club being told, via intermediaries, that Newcastle are not willing to entertain a sale for the Brazilian. He enters the final two years of his contract this summer, coming as a crunch point for most clubs to consider a sale or an extension to the deal.

The report claims that the player’s stance is currently unknown, and it’s unclear whether he will push for an exit or whether he would be open to a new contract.

The 28-year-old has been described as a “top target” for Arteta, however, which may prompt Arsenal to be persistent in their approach for Guimaraes.

It remains to be seen how much the second offer from the North London club will be, and whether it will be enough to create a change of heart at St. James’ Park.

However, it is showing a rapid push from Arsenal to get a deal over the line.

Arsenal Challenge For Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal may face a prolonged challenge in trying to sign Guimaraes this summer, as Newcastle aren’t under pressure to sell the midfielder, at the moment.

The key sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona may have freed up some spending power, while Sandro Tonali continues to be linked with an exit.

That may prevent an exit for Guimaraes, though the contract situation could play a prevalent part in any possible negotiation in the coming weeks.

Man City Make Enquiry for Star Who’s Already Agreed to Join Arsenal

They could be ready to hijack the transfer for the Premier League champions

The two years remaining on his contract mean that this summer could be the final chance for Newcastle to cash-in at a maximum valuation for the star.

However, if he isn’t agitating for an exit, then there may be no need to do so.It could, therefore, depend on the player’s stance and whether he pushes for the transfer to Arsenal.

With the World Cup taking most of his focus at the moment, that stance may not be revealed for a few weeks yet.

European Giants Join Race For ‘Powerful’ Celtic Ace

Published

Celtic appear likely to lose one of their key players this summer, as reports emerge over growing interest in the midfield ace in the transfer market.

It comes as the Hoops are trying to build a squad capable of comfortably competing for the Scottish Premiership title again, after last season’s dramatic ending.

There were several changes in the dugout, but eventually Martin O’Neill secured the league title on the final day of the season, cementing his legacy at Celtic Park.

The experienced head coach has since been handed a further one-year deal, and will now get the chance to help stabilise the side for the future.

That includes some important signings to help improve the quality at his disposal, but it could also see some huge sales over the course of the summer transfer window for Celtic.

AS Roma Join Arne Engels Race

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels takes a shot vs Aberdeen

One of the Celtic stars who is in-demand this summer is Arne Engels, with the midfielder seemingly attracting the attention of several different clubs.

The 22-year-old is into the final two years under contract with the Hoops, and after another important campaign for the star, there could be an exit on the horizon.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Italian giants AS Roma are inserting themselves in the race to sign Engels this summer, as the battle for his signature heats up.

Premier League clubs are claimed to be monitoring a deal for the Belgian midfielder too, which could see his value shoot up as Celtic look to keep hold of the star.

It underlines just how tough the market could be for the champions, as their promising options and key stars continue to gain interest from other teams in the transfer market.

With just two years remaining on his deal, it may be one of the final chances for Celtic to land a big fee for Engels, before a potential rebuild.

Engels Exit A Potential Blow

An exit for Engels could prove to be a huge blow for Celtic, with the midfielder being an ever-present force over the course of the past campaign.

The Belgian star, who has been described as “powerful”, has been a relatively reliable option in the squad and continues to improve at the age of just 22.

Celtic are pushing to secure his signature.

With so many teams seeing that potential, it’s clear that Celtic will have a hard time keeping hold of him, while this summer could prove an ideal time to at least grab the maximum value from him in the market.

It’ll be tough to find the next player who could replace Engels, with a clear need for long-term planning to kick in for another star who could have just as much of an impact.
