Michael Carrick Must Axe Amad Diallo

Published

on

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte is often the scapegoat whenever he plays and the Red Devils struggle, but he’s not the only one who is finding it difficult this season.

Michael Carrick’s side suffered an incredibly disappointing defeat at home to Leeds United, in a game which would have given them a huge boost in their efforts to qualify for the Champions League.

There’s a strong chance United do still finish in the top five, but it was a real opportunity for them to give themselves a comfortable cushion heading into the final few weeks of the season.

A host of players weren’t at the races, while Lisandro Martinez disappointed supporters after being sent off for pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Carrick Needs to Make Selection Decision at Man Utd

Man Utd manager Michael Carrick looks on vs Leeds

It might be Ugarte who takes plenty of the criticism from the game against Leeds, but he’s not the only one who let his team down.

It’s been a familiar story all season, but Amad Diallo hasn’t been hitting the heights expected of him, and Carrick has been relying on him too much since he took over.

The 23-year-old has produced just four goals and assists in the Premier League this season from 23 starts, which isn’t enough for a side competing for the Champions League places.

Carrick has been reluctant to utilise Bryan Mbeumo on the right, instead dropping him for Benjamin Sesko against Leeds.

It wasn’t Amad’s worst performance of the season by any means, but he needs to start producing in front of goal to warrant a place in the starting XI so regularly.

Mbeumo’s Time to Shine on the Right

Carrick has regularly rotated both Mbeumo and Sesko as the centre-forward during his tenure, but he should be looking to play both of them.

Amad simply isn’t producing enough when it comes to goals and assists, and United need to be careful that they don’t throw away their Champions League place.

Amad worked hard against Leeds and looked threatening, but his production levels need to rise if he wants to keep his place in the starting XI.

No player should be a shoo-in to start every single week, and it’s time for a spell out of the team for Amad.

Arsenal Eyeing Shock Move to Sign Barcelona Star Ferran Torres

Arsenal are planning a shock raid on FC Barcelona this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options for the new season, according to TEAMtalk.

The Gunners claimed the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, but missed out on an even more historic campaign as they suffered defeat to Man City and Paris Saint-Germain in the Carabao Cup and Champions League finals.

Now Mikel Arteta is keen to refresh his squad and go again next year to get even better, and a new forward has now emerged as something that the club are keen to add to their squad to do that.

Arsenal Eyeing Ferran Torres Deal

According to a report, Arsenal are now eyeing up a surprise move to sign Barcelona star Ferran Torres this summer.

Torres enjoyed the best season of his Nou Camp career this season, notching 21 goals as the Catalan giants won a second successive La Liga title ahead of rivals Real Madrid, a total only bettered by phenom Lamine Yamal.

However, after Barcelona splashed £70m on a deal to sign Anthony Gordon, while there is still interest in bringing in Julian Alvarez and Marcus Rashford, it has raised question marks over the Spain international’s future with the club.

Torres is now entering the final 12 months of his contract, and while Barca are willing to offer him fresh terms, he wants assurances over his playing time before signing anything.

That has opened the door to Arsenal, who are looking at versatile attacking options to add firepower to their squad. Arteta is understood to be a huge fan of the 26-year-old, having previously worked with him at Man City, and views him as an ideal option to come into the Gunners side.

Torres Could Be Shrewd Business

Torres is someone who has got plenty of experience at the very highest level, including the Premier League, and he is expected to be the starting striker for Spain at the World Cup this summer.

Adding someone with the qualities he has, and the versatility to be able to play through the middle or out wide, is something that Arteta could do with if he wants to take the team up to the next level over the next 12 months.

A deal may not be too expensive, considering Torres’ contract status, and this could be a sensational bit of business if they can add a reliable source of goals to the side for a reasonable fee.

After qualifying for the Champions League during the 2025-2026 season, United will likely be shopping in a different market for players than they were last summer.

According to a report from Team Talk, Manchester United are one of the sides who have opened talks ahead of a potential move to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior in the summer transfer window.

Vinicius is set to be out of contract next summer, meaning there is a chance he could leave for nothing if they fail to tie him down to a new deal.

Unfortunately for United, Real Madrid have little interest in allowing the Brazilian international to head through the exit door this summer.

Vinicius, previously described as the best in the world by now-Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti, could have his pick of any club in the world next if he decides to leave Madrid.
