ADC: Nigerians suggest 2027 presidential ticket pairings between Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso

Published

on

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, held its National Convention on Tuesday, 14th April 2026 in Abuja, where delegates announced a new leadership under David Mark and expelled factional rivals.

The event also featured strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly on issues of debt, insecurity, and the electoral process.

Notably, the presence of high-profile political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso further fueled talks of possible merger aimed at dislodging the ruling party in 2027.

This has triggered widespread reactions among Nigerians, as conversations intensify over possible opposition alliances in the general elections.

Across social media many Nigerians are weighing in on speculated joint tickets involving Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Atiku Abubakar.

Among the combinations being discussed are an Obi–Kwankwaso pairing and an Atiku–Obi ticket, with debates centered on which alliance could pose a stronger challenge in the next general election.

Some Nigerians argued that a united opposition front could significantly boost electoral chances by combining regional support.

Below are some of the pairings suggested by Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter).

@PIDOMNIGERIA wrote, “Be informed that the 2027 presidential election will be fought from multiple fronts. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar must give his blessings and step aside for the best pair with the two most organic, none cash induced movements in Nigeria to rescue this nation. If Atiku gives his blessings and support, Tinubu is a gonna in 2027.”

@jessy: “Atiku is worst than Tinubu but Y’all don’t know it. Surest ticket Obi President, kwankwaso Vice president. Nigerians will kick that rice druggie out by 2027.”

@D’Uches4PeterObi: “The only ticket i know and Will support like my life depend on it is obi-kwankwaso.”

@Maduegbunam Chibueze: “As a man who always willing to stand for fairness, Let give it to micro zone that has never had president and has now the best presidential candidate among all contender. There is no need to make long sentence on this. A new Nigeria is possible.”

@Adinoyi1 wrote: “Without a doubt, Atiku and Obi, for those who truly understand the political dynamics of the North, would be strong contenders. Besides, I am not a fan of either of them, but they may stand a better chance of winning the 2027 presidential election against Tinubu.”

@ Jummai Batnah: “The only person that can defeat Tinubu for now in the north is Atiku, forget sentiment. If ADC is serious they should pick Atiku and Obi, Atiku should just do a term and handover to obi.”

@Adjutant: “Anyone calling for Atiku/Obi ticket is an APC member. They know that once Atiku emerges, ADC is destroyed. Obi can’t deputise Atiku, so Atiku won’t have any choice but to go for Amechi, and that ticket will amount to nothing.”

@Chibubani noted: “Atiku should just focus on being a king maker. He has contributed his quota already.”

@riel_gab1312 wrote: “Peter Obi Kwankwaso ticket. Any ticket with Atiku will not fly.”

@The People’s Therapist said: “My own nah, Obi no fit be vice to anybody again, never! Obi for president or make dem fumble the party make Tinubu enter again.”

@Dr. OkaforE: “The ADC convention is over and we must face the reality as early as possible. The consensus must be Atiku/Obi. Any other ticket is a joke that needs no energy to be expended.”

@Dr. OkaforE stated: ”If their Excellencie Atiku and Obi refuse to come together and contest as President and Vice president respectively, let’s all just forget about 2027. No team can beat BAT except the 2 combination.”

@italian_Spencer: ”What if Peter Obi isn’t given the presidential ticket at ADC? What next Nigerians?”

@Heis_Crowther: “I’m not loyal to ADC,I’m loyal to Peter Obi.”

However, despite the growing buzz online, none of the politicians involved have officially confirmed any alliance.

The United Kingdom has said it is closely monitoring Nigeria’s democratic process and is keenly interested in the country’s next general elections scheduled for 2027.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, stated this on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja.

Montgomery said the UK would continue to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty but noted that developments in the country are important to Britain because of its economic, financial, and security interests.

He disclosed that the UK would send observer delegations to the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

“We will send delegations to observe the elections because these will be the final off-season governorship elections before the general elections next year. We want to see peaceful, credible and successful elections,” he said.

The envoy stressed the significance of Nigeria to the UK, describing it as Africa’s largest country and a key partner.

“We will always approach Nigeria with respect. Nigeria is by far the largest country in Africa and what happens here matters greatly. We have significant economic, financial and security investments in Nigeria, and therefore Nigeria’s stability and democratic success are important to us,” Montgomery added.

He also reaffirmed Britain’s support for Nigeria’s democratic institutions and expressed confidence in the country’s electoral future.

“We are investing in Nigeria’s democracy because we believe in its future. We wish Nigeria well as events unfold towards the next general election,” he said.

Speaking earlier, APC National Chairman Yilwatda assured the British envoy that the ruling party would encourage issue-based campaigns in the forthcoming off-cycle elections.

According to him, APC candidates would avoid inflammatory rhetoric capable of creating political tension, while the party remains committed to peaceful and responsible political engagement.
