Ebonyi: Factional ADC chairman, Onu dismisses suspension, threatens court action
Factional Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Ebonyi State, Barrister Silas Onu, has dismissed his purported suspension from the party.
Onu threatened to drag those involved in the “purported” suspension to court.
The suspension was reportedly announced by the Acting Chairman and Secretary of the ADC in Obiozara Ward.
In a statement he issued on Friday, Onu said, “Grounds for his suspension include financial exploitation of party members, thus painting a picture of me as a fraudster without justification or basis.
“People are free to play politics however they feel is just for them. But where that insanity extends to attacking the reputation of another person without lawful or reasonable justification, both the makers of such statement and the publisher will be held liable in a defamation suit.
“I have asked that the identity of these individuals and their addresses be ascertained, so that my lawyer can immediately contact them with my intention to sue for defamation.
“This will afford them the opportunity of establishing their allegations that I am a fraudulent person.
“For the avoidance of doubt, not a single Ward in Ebonyi State has an Acting Executives, as election have been held across all 171 Wards with substantive leaders now running the affairs of each ward. The Chairman of Obiozara Ward is Mr. Godwin Njoku and he will never lend himself to such an infamous activity.”
Reacting to the suspension, Chairman of ADC Ohaozara LGA, Engr. Chinedum Elekwachi, stated that Peter Obinna and Akuma Martins, who signed the suspension letter as Chairman and Secretary, Obiozara Ward, are neither known or registered members of ADC.
According to Elekwachi, the duly elected Chairman of ADC in Obiozara Ward is Mr Godwin Njoku.
“There is nothing like “acting chairman” at ward level and in the entire Ebonyi State ADC structure,” he said.

NDC crisis: What I discussed with Seriake Dickson – Peter Obi
Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, has disclosed details of his discussions with the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, and vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, amid concerns over internal challenges within the party.
Obi, in a post on X on Friday, said the meetings held on Democracy Day focused on strengthening unity within the NDC and advancing the party’s vision for national transformation.
Together Towards the New Nigeria That Is Possible
“The NDC, as a party that is barely four months old, despite the challenges, remains the party of the future, and the fruitful discussions at the meetings clearly underscore this fact.
“The leaders and members of a committed political family must be willing to make sacrifices and show tolerance and accommodation, even in difficult circumstances. This shared understanding is essential for building trust, strengthening unity, and sustaining the vision we collectively hold for national transformation.
We are all committed to this goal. The NDC remains the vehicle that will convey Nigeria through purposeful, compassionate leadership, with firm commitment to productivity and democratic ideals towards the New Nigeria that is possible.”
According to him, the NDC, despite being barely four months old and facing challenges, remains “the party of the future,” noting that the discussions underscored the commitment of its leaders to the party’s growth and stability.
He stressed the need for leaders and members of the political family to make sacrifices, show tolerance and accommodate differing views, particularly during difficult periods.
Obi said such values were essential for building trust, promoting unity and sustaining the collective vision of delivering a new Nigeria.

June 12: Nigeria must not waste sacrifices of MKO Abiola – SDP presidential candidate Adebayo
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has said Nigeria must not waste the sacrifices made by the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, winner of the historic June 12, 1993, presidential election.
He disclosed this in his statement at Nigeria’s Democracy Day commemoration on Friday.
According to him, the election represented a glorious opportunity for Nigeria to lead Africa and the wider world in democratic renewal at a time when apartheid still existed in South Africa and many African nations were still under military rule.
Adebayo said the annulment of the election by the military government was a betrayal of the Constitution and the sovereignty of Nigerians, stressing that no power can truly annul the will of the people.
He noted that June 12 is a reflection that democratic power belongs to the people.
“June 12 reminds us that the people are the true owners of power. What happened in 1993 was not just the annulment of an election; it was a betrayal of the Constitution and the sovereignty of Nigerians.
“As we approach another general election, every Nigerian has a role to play in enthroning true democracy. June 12 must not be in vain. The labor of our heroes past must not be allowed to go to waste,” Adebayo said.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his Democracy Day message, said Nigerians should not lose faith in the country despite its numerous challenges.
