Police arrest two over alleged fake civil service recruitment in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery linked to fake recruitment activities within the state civil service commission.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, the case was reported to the police on April 28, 2026, following a formal complaint from the Office of the Head of Civil Service through the Director of Recruitment and Training of the Civil Service Commission.
The complaint alleged fraudulent activities involving the circulation and possession of fake Civil Service recruitment documents.
Following the report, detectives were deployed to investigate the matter, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Mohammed Bappa, 30, a civil servant attached to the Shira Local Government Secretariat, and Aminu Nuru, 28, a café operator based in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Police said preliminary investigations uncovered credible intelligence, which led operatives to conduct a search at the residence of Mohammed Bappa in the Kakudi area of Azare town.
During the search, detectives reportedly recovered 20 Civil Service Commission bio-data forms and five printed copies of suspected forged offer of temporary appointment letters.
The police said the recovered documents were believed to have been prepared for fraudulent recruitment activities aimed at deceiving unsuspecting job seekers.
According to the Command, the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to identify other possible accomplices and determine the extent of the alleged criminal operation.
The statement added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling fraud, forgery and other criminal activities in the state.
He also advised residents to remain vigilant and Verify all recruitment-related information through official government channels to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.

Troops rescue ASP, six kidnapped travelers in Plateau
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, and six other travelers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers on Monday at Sopp village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a security source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, troops deployed under Sector 6 of Operation Enduring Peace Operation, OPEP, carried out the successful rescue operation following a swift response to a distress call at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday.
The security source disclosed this on Tuesday, stating that when the deployed troops arrived at the scene, they found a blue Opel Vectra abandoned in the middle of the road with no occupants, prompting an immediate search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding bush.
According to the source, the troops made contact with the suspected kidnappers and engaged them in a firefight, forcing them to flee into the bush and abandon their captives.
The rescued victims were identified as ASP Babagida Ishaku, Auwulu Haruna, Dung Jerry Dang, Anas Idris, Hussaini Mohammed, Idris Abdullahi, and Mrs Kangyang Sunday.
The victims reportedly told the troops they had boarded the vehicle in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, and were travelling to Jos when they were intercepted and abducted by the gunmen.
The source said all seven victims were rescued unharmed, while efforts have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Troops neutralise two terrorists in Kebbi, soldier reported missing
Troops of the Forward Operating Base, FOB, Tudun Bichi have killed two suspected terrorists during a gun battle in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while one soldier has been reported missing in action.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a post on X, citing security sources.
According to the sources, the operation was launched at about 11:20 a.m. on July 13 after troops received intelligence on terrorist activities in Mokurata Village.
The troops moved to the area and engaged the suspected terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire, during which two of the suspects were neutralised.
The sources said the troops recovered one motorcycle and a Baofeng handheld radio believed to have been used by the terrorists.
However, one soldier, who was armed with a PKT machine gun and an AK-47 rifle, was reported missing in action during the operation.
The sources added that efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing terrorists and locate the missing soldier.
“The operation is part of sustained military offensives aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement across the North-West,” the sources said.

Three suspected terrorists arrested in Bauchi forest
Three suspected terrorists have been arrested during a joint operation by troops and local vigilantes in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The suspects were arrested at about 4 am on Monday, July 14, during a clearance operation carried out by troops of Operation MESA and members of a local vigilante group in Dutsen Kwadu Forest.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation followed intelligence on the movement of suspected criminals in the forest.
According to the sources, the joint team arrested the three suspects during the operation.
The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing preliminary investigations to determine their identities, affiliations and possible involvement in terrorist activities.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to prevent terrorists and other criminal groups from using forests in Bauchi State and the wider North-East as hideouts.
