The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports claiming it endorsed President Bola Tinubu and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Christopher Odianarewo, the party described the purported endorsement as false and urged Nigerians to disregard it.

According to the statement, President Tinubu is not a member of the PDP, and the party has not endorsed him, his administration, or the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Lagos PDP also questioned the authenticity of the circulated statement, noting that it lacked an identifiable author, official party insignia, signature, or authorisation from any recognised organ of the party.

The party alleged that the publication was intended to create confusion within its ranks and mislead the public about its position.

Reaffirming its position, the Lagos PDP said it recognises the Interim National Working Committee (INWC), led by Dr. Tanimu Turaki (SAN), and the Board of Trustees chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara as the party’s legitimate leadership.

The chapter further stated that the PDP remains committed to the rule of law, due process, and democratic principles, adding that it would continue to resist attempts to undermine the unity and integrity of the party.

It called on party members, stakeholders, the media, and the general public to disregard the purported endorsement and remain vigilant against misinformation.

The Lagos PDP reiterated its commitment to providing what it described as a credible alternative for Nigerians ahead of future elections.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has nominated the member representing Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bello Ambarura, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Sokoto State.

The party announced the nomination in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Sokoto State Publicity Secretary, Lamir Aminu.

According to the statement, Ambarura will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Manir Muhammad Dan-Iya, in the 2027 election.

Aminu said the nomination followed extensive consultations within the party and was made in line with Section 187(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

He explained that the decision reflected the party’s commitment to presenting a competent, credible and people-oriented leadership team capable of delivering good governance in Sokoto State.

The ADC described Ambarura as a seasoned administrator and experienced public servant who rose through the ranks of the Sokoto State Civil Service to become a Permanent Secretary before serving as Commissioner for Commerce and Industries.

The party noted that he was elected to the Sokoto State House of Assembly in 2019, where he served as Majority Leader until 2023, before winning election to the House of Representatives to represent Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency.

Aminu expressed confidence that Ambarura’s extensive experience in public administration and legislative service would complement the leadership of the party’s governorship candidate and strengthen the ADC’s ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The National Vice Chairman, South West, of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP Wolimoh Olajide Epe, has resigned from the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter addressed to Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the PRP, Wolimoh cited concerns over what he described as the party’s lack of national relevance and limited political direction.

Wolimoh, who announced that his decision takes immediate effect, added that the move followed wide consultations with political associates, supporters and other stakeholders who had closely followed his activities within the party.

He equally stated that his decision was not made in haste, noting that several discussions and engagements over the future of the party convinced him that remaining in the PRP would no longer align with his political goals and those of his supporters.

The former party chieftain expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities he received during his years of service, stressing that he had served the PRP in different capacities, including as a committee member, National Youth Leader and later as the National Vice Chairman representing the South West zone.

Wolimoh, despite acknowledging the roles he occupied within the party, maintained that the PRP had failed to evolve into a strong national political force capable of competing effectively for power at the federal level.

According to him, many of his supporters had become increasingly concerned about what they viewed as the party’s inability to build momentum across the country, emphasising that there was a growing belief among party members and supporters that the PRP lacked the seriousness and ambition required to emerge as a major political platform.

Wolimoh further argued that the party had gradually shifted away from active political engagement, claiming that it now functions more as a forum for political discussions than a vehicle for contesting and influencing governance.

“I sincerely hope the leadership of the PRP will reflect on these observations and take the necessary steps to reposition the party for greater national relevance and inclusiveness,” he stated.
