‘Embarrassed Scottish Football’ – Hearts Slam Full-Time Scenes vs Celtic

Published

on

It was supposed to be one of the most dramatic and celebratory title deciders Scottish football had seen in years. Instead, the afternoon at Celtic Park ended in chaos, controversy, and scenes that Hearts have described in the bluntest of terms.

Celtic secured the Scottish Premiership title with a 3-1 victory, but the manner in which it concluded has overshadowed everything.

With Hearts needing just a point to be crowned champions, everything was on track by half-time, even though their 1-0 lead had just been wiped out by a debatable penalty call for handball. But Daizen Maeda’s 85th-minute strike took the title from their grasp, knocking Hearts off the top spot for the first time in 250 days.

Having won a free-kick deep into stoppage time, Hearts goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow got into the box, in a last-gasp attempt to snatch the point that would have given them the title. The free-kick was cleared, Celtic broke, and substitute Callum Osmand rolled the ball into an empty net in the 98th minute.

What followed was a pitch invasion from the celebrating Celtic fans. Hearts players were forced to flee for their own safety, the referee brought proceedings to an end without allowing Hearts to kick off, and the afternoon descended into something that had no place in football.

Reports have since emerged of serious physical and verbal abuse directed at Hearts players and staff, including club captain Lawrence Shankland. The entire Hearts staff left the stadium immediately without fulfilling their post-match media duties, citing the safety of their personnel as the priority.

Hearts’ Full Statement After Ugly Scenes at Celtic Park

Celtic Players

Hearts have since released a strongly worded statement on their club website that leaves no room for ambiguity about how the club views what took place.

“Heart of Midlothian utterly condemns the shameful scenes at Celtic Park this afternoon which have, once again, embarrassed Scottish football.”

Beginning with the phrase “once again” carries particular weight, pointing to the fact that incidents like this have consistently happened for a number of years at Celtic Park.

The club confirmed they’re investigating the reports of abuse fully and are in dialogue with Police Scotland, while stopping short of making further comment on the specifics at this stage. They also addressed the decision to leave without speaking to the media.

Ex-FIFA Referee Responds to Claim That Celtic vs Hearts Should’ve Been Abandoned

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett has spoken out after chaotic scenes at Celtic Park.

“Given the menacing and threatening atmosphere inside the stadium, our entire staff had no alternative but to leave immediately, without undertaking post-match media duties. To our media partners, we apologise but the safety of our staff was our prime focus during these unacceptable scenes.”

Perhaps the most striking passage of the statement addressed the human cost of the chaos, the fact that Hearts players were denied the opportunity to acknowledge their own supporters after a season that had captured the imagination of football fans well beyond Scotland.

“Our players were then denied the opportunity to thank our magnificent fans – sensational to a person – for their backing this afternoon and all season long.”

A Call For Action From Hearts

Celtic vs Hearts

Hearts closed their statement with a clear demand directed at Scottish football’s authorities. “We expect the strongest action possible to be taken by the footballing authorities in the interests of protecting the safety of players and supporters, and the integrity of our game.”

Whatever the outcome of Celtic’s title celebration, Scottish football has serious questions to answer, and Hearts, Derek McInnes, his staff, and their supporters feel as though they deserved far better than the afternoon they were given.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Contestant Loses Thousands After Trusting Audience on Boxing Question

A Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant missed out on a huge prize after asking the audience for help on a question about boxing.

It is often a sports fan’s favourite part in a quiz show when a sports-related question comes up, but this can pose a huge challenge for contestants who have minimal knowledge of certain sports.

On this occasion, the boxing-related question caused a huge issue for the participant, Rosie Hurst.

Boxing Question Stumps Quiz Show Contestant

In the episode from March 2025, she managed to successfully get through the first eight questions with no qualms. She had used zero lifelines, so was in a promising position to scoop up a sizeable prize.

Despite this, a major challenge arose when she faced a question for £16,000. She was asked about boxing weight classes. Unsure of the answer, she turned to the audience for assistance by using the first of her four lifelines to help answer the question.

The question asked her to pick what she thought was the heaviest of these four men’s weight divisions: bantamweight, middleweight, welterweight, and flyweight.

Encouragingly, she managed to correctly pick out both bantamweight and flyweight as the two lightest divisions. She was then stuck over the other two options, so she decided to call for help from the audience.

Featuring icons such as Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson, boxing’s 20 greatest fighters of all time have been ranked via a fan vote.

The question was repeated for the audience who voted in majority (63%) for welterweight as the heaviest, with 26% choosing middleweight as the heaviest, with 8% going for flyweight, and only 3% choosing bantamweight.

Following the help, Rosie chose to lock in welterweight as her final answer. Unfortunately, show host Jeremy Clarkson had to break the news to her that, in fact, the crowd had got it wrong, and the correct answer was instead middleweight.

Clarkson ranted to the audience, “You useless imbeciles”, displaying his disappointment for the contestant who had been let down by the crowd.

Rosie’s incorrect answer saw her lose out on the £16,000 up for grabs from the question, and caused her prize to plummet from £8,000 down to just £1,000.

Weight Classes in Boxing

Of the four weight divisions mentioned as possible answers, middleweights are the heaviest boxers, with the weight limit being exactly 160 pounds (72.6kg). Welterweight follows this at 147 pounds (66.7kg). Following that is bantamweight, coming in at 118 pounds (53.5kg), and finally flyweight at 112 pounds (50.8kg).

This is a question that the majority of boxing fans would have been able to correctly answer with ease, but a challenging one for those with limited knowledge of the sport.

Marcus Rashford vs Anthony Gordon: Stats Compared in 2025/26

Published

By

In a fascinating early development ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window, it appears as though Anthony Gordon is already close to securing a major move away from Newcastle United. Reports suggest he could soon complete an £70m move to Barcelona ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

While this would be a great move for the Englishman, one of his international teammates may be a little concerned by the news. After all, Barca already have a left-winger on their books in Marcus Rashford.

The 28-year-old has spent the season in Spain on loan from Manchester United, but this suggests he’s not done enough to convince Hansi Flick that he’d be worth the reported £26m to get a permanent transfer across the line.

Adding to the intrigue, both Gordon and Rashford are set to battle it out for the starting left-winger position under Thomas Tuchel at this summer’s World Cup. With all that in mind, here’s how the duo’s stats compare from the past season.

Gordon will be earning MORE than Marcus Rashford, who he looks to be replacing at Camp Nou 🚨🤑

Simple Stats in 2025/26

Marcus Rashford

It makes sense to start with a quick glance at their club performances in 2025/26. Both played a similar number of minutes and games, so it’s fair to compare how they got on.

Notably, Rashford had a more productive season. Although he scored three fewer goals, he had 14 assists, meaning he directly contributed to 28 goals, which is six more than the 22 Gordon managed in all competitions.

Rashford also helped deliver a league title as Barcelona secured La Liga thanks to his eight goals and nine assists in 32 outings. The Englishman also bagged an impressive nine-goal contribution as his side made it to the Champions League semi-finals.

However, Gordon outshone Rahsford in that competition, with a remarkable 10 goals in the European competition, as well as a further two assists, before Newcastle were knocked out by Barcelona at the Last 16 stage. The 25-year-old wasn’t at his best in the Premier League as he scored just six times, with the Magpies finishing 12th.

With that in mind, it’s likely his displays in the Champions League are what really caught Barcelona’s attention. It wouldn’t have hurt that he scored against them in September – although Rashford hit a brace in the very same game.

Detailed Club Stats in the League For 2025/26

anthony gordon newcastle united

One fair way to get an idea of how the duo have performed this season is to look at more detailed stats in the league per 90 minutes. In La Liga, Rashford appears to have been a more impactful player. He averaged more shots per 90, with a better shooting accuracy, which is reflected in his aforementioned superior goal tally.

The Barca star was also more creative, with 2.4 chances created per game – compared to Gordon’s 1.3 – and had a better crossing and passing accuracy. That said, the Newcastle star was more progressive with his passing, making 6.8 forward passes per 90, compared to 5.4, which may explain why he was marginally less accurate – although both men appear to be reliable on the ball due to their high technical level.

Positively for Gordon, he was a better dribbler, with a take-on success rate of 48.48 per cent, which is far better than Rashford’s 33.33 per cent. And he also lost the ball and was caught offside far less often. Perhaps most notably, the Newcastle star offers a little more off the ball, with more duels won per 90.

Career Stats and Final Conclusion

Barcelona's Marcus Rashford during the warm up

Finally, it’s worth a look at how the pair compared across their entire careers. Of course, Rashford is almost four years older, so it’s unsurprising that he has played more, scored more, assisted more, and won more. That said, there’s every reason to think that Gordon could match the 28-year-old’s tally when he reaches the same age.

For example, he’s played 30 fewer Champions League games but is already just seven goals behind Rashford, while he could also expect to enjoy more success if he were playing for a better team. After all, Gordon has played for Everton and Newcastle so far in his career, while Rashford has been at Man Utd and more recently Barcelona – teams which tend to dominate more and have a greater shot at trophies.

That said, one mark against Gordon’s name is that he has scored just two goals for England and has not registered an assist in 17 games. In comparison, Rashford has 25 goal contributions in his 70 caps for the Three Lions.

Overall, Rashford has clearly had a superior career and appears to have had a better season at club level in 2025/26. However, he is 28 years old and in his prime, whereas Gordon should soon be coming into it (still aged just 25). What’s more, the younger Englishman is known for his work rate – and this is reflected by the fact that he won more duels than Rashford in the league per 90.

An ability to press and work hard off the ball may well explain why Barcelona appear keen on the Newcastle star. Gordon is also younger, so he appears to have more upside in the long-run. That said, the finances are extremely high on the move, with a £70m fee touted, and massive reported wages of £300,000-a-week. Seeing as Rashford earns closer to £230,000-per-week, and may even take a pay cut to secure a move for just £26m, it feels somewhat strange that Barcelona don’t want to get that deal done.

It feels as if the Spanish giants are keen on signing Gordon for what he could be, but – judging from the stats – they’d perhaps be wise to not overlook what they already have in Rashford.

Man Utd ‘Very Close’ to Deal for Ederson, He’s Agreed to Join

Published

Manchester United are now ‘very close’ to an agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with Fabrizio Romano revealing the latest on the transfer.

Man United are wasting no time in their bid to strengthen their squad for next season after sealing their return to the Champions League for the first time in three years, despite the fact the transfer window doesn’t officially open until June 15.

The last time the Red Devils were in Europe’s elite club competition, in the old format, they were knocked out in the group stages, and they will want to avoid that happening again next term.

Of course, alongside the Champions League, Carrick and his side will also want to build on their impressive third-place finish in the Premier League, where they finished the best of the rest behind Manchester City and Arsenal.

To do that with the extra fixture congestion, United will need to add new players to their squad, potentially across multiple positions.

INEOS have identified central midfield as a key priority to bolster, and if the Ederson deal does go through, the Brazilian is unlikely to be the last arrival in that position during the summer transfer window.

Romano: Man Utd ‘Very, Very Close’ to Total Ederson Ageement

Ederson celebrating after scoring for Atalanta

One report from the Times on Wednesday suggested that United had agreed a £38m deal with Atalanta to sign Ederson, but Romano claims that a deal isn’t quite there yet, although they are on the brink of reaching an agreement with the Serie A outfit.

Issuing the latest update on the ‘world-class’ talent on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist said:

“So the agreement, Manchester United with Ederson is done. The player said yes to Man United. The contract is ready, it’s a five-year deal.”

Despite other clubs attempting to hijack a deal, Romano has revealed that the 26-year-old has made his feelings clear.

He added: [Ederson is saying] “I wait for United now. United are close to completing the agreement with Atalanta for 45 million euros. Payment terms are being discussed, installments, and all the rest, but Ederson is very, very, very close to becoming a new Manchester United player.

“What’s needed is Man United final approval. Man United have been working on this deal for weeks, but he’s among several targets they have.”

Who Are Man United’s Other Top Midfield Targets?

Sandro Tonali

It appears unlikely that Ederson would be the top-class Casemiro replacement United are searching for, but that player could be Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.

Reports in Italy in recent days have suggested that Carrick actually asked the club to sign the Italy international before they got Ederson, such is his determination to land the Magpies midfielder this summer.

A separate report in Italy suggests the Red Devils are close to an agreement for the 26-year-old too, who looks to have emerged as a top target.

Romano has also confirmed that Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni is their ‘dream’ midfield target, although it’s unclear if he will be allowed to leave the Bernabeu despite his high-profile bust-up with teammate Federico Valverde, mentioned as another United target.

Carrick’s number one target is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, but the England star is looking more likely to join Manchester City instead.

The other name that has emerged in recent weeks is Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United, who looks set to leave the London Stadium following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
