Real reason I picked Kwankwaso as my running mate – Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has revealed the reason behind his decision to pick the leader of Kwankwassiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his running mate.

In an interview with Sun, Obi said he decided to settle for the former governor of Kano State because “Kwankwaso has the philosophy of pulling people out of poverty”.

Obi said himself and Kwankwaso have similar philosophy on reviving the country’s economy to better the lives of citizens.

“I have the same philosophy. Kwankwaso believes in education. You cannot change society without education.

“If you look at my X, formerly Twitter, I made it clear that I will emphasise on education. Education is going to change society.

“Nigeria must be seen to form its innermost human capital, which we need to develop. Kwankwaso believes in this. I do. We have synergy.”

Obi also dismissed speculation suggesting that there is disagreement between him and Kwankwaso, stating that they remain united in strategizing ahead of the January 2027 elections.

2027: NDC will win before 12 noon in free, fair election – Fayose

Isaac Fayose, younger brother to former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state says the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, will win the 2027 presidential polls in a free and fair election.

Fayose made this remark in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday.

He was reacting to Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike, who said he does not have electoral values in Ekiti state.

“If you think I don’t have electoral value in Ekiti state, why are you guys rigging? Why are you people buying votes as much as N50,000?

“Why are you people arresting my boys a week before Ekiti governorship election? Electoral value is not on rigging or on judicial pronouncement.

“If they call election today, NDC will win before 12 noon if the elections were free and fair. The only power you people have over us is rigging and the people are quiet,” he said.

‘Obi, Atiku cannot mobilise support in North to defeat Tinubu’ – Ganduje

The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, has boasted that the presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, respectively, do not have the grassroots structure and regional appeal required to “penetrate the North” and unseat incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

“The North is strategic in every presidential election in Nigeria. With due respect to our friends in the opposition, neither Peter Obi nor Atiku Abubakar can mobilise enough support in this region to defeat President Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

The former APC chairman also raised concerns over the growing number of political parties in the country, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to raise the bar for party registration.

He argued that only political parties with functional structures, clear ideologies and broad national reach should be recognised by the electoral body.

Ganduje’s comments come amid ongoing realignments within opposition ranks as political actors begin early consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.

He emphasised that Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar lack the political backing in Northern Nigeria to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential election.

Ganduje made the remarks at a public event in Kano on Monday, where he assessed the strength of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
