2027 polls: Samson Nnamani dismisses factionalization claims after winning PDP guber ticket

Published

Amid the multiple primary elections held by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Chief Samson Nnamani has declared that he is the authentic governorship candidate of the party.

DAILY POST recalls that two other primary elections had produced Chief Uche Nnaji and Chief Dona Nwogbo at different venues in the state.

However, addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Enugu Press Centre, Nnamani said he was validly elected on Sunday 24th May 2026.

Speaking through Dr. Buchi Nnaji, Media Director and Spokesperson of Chief Sampson Chukwu Nnamani, he said there was no faction in the PDP, adding that the Supreme Court had since laid the matter to rest.

Nnanami also dismissed his purported suspension by another faction of the party, describing it as an action driven by desperation.

“You said you suspended somebody, and on the day you conducted what you called, primary, where you did your kangaroo election, you recognized the same person you suspended and counted votes for him.

“Samson Nnamani went for primaries. He is the only person that you can say participated actively in mobilizing PDP members for primary elections.

“We have the records in all the 17 local governments. The other people were afraid of facing the election. That was why they started coming up with these fraudulent ways.

“Most of the things we hear are rumours. So be properly guided, please. Let us put PDP together. These people are trying to silence the opposition, and we will not accept that. PDP is strong.

“The primary election that brought Samson Nnamani to be the flagbearer was duly supervised by officials sent from Abuja and the INEC, and members of the electoral panel declared him winner,” he stated.

Nnamani then said the PDP administration if voted into power would review and remove policies and practices that were truncating the wellbeing, economic survival, and social advancement of the citizens.

Peter Obi talk-and-do leader – Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement has described the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a talk-and-do leader.

National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, made this remark on Sunday in an interview on Arise Television, noting that Obi’s record as Anambra state governor proves it.

He was reacting to the emergence of Obi as the NDC presidential candidate ahead of the next year’s general elections.

DAILY POST reports that the NDC on Saturday declared Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Tanko said, “Peter Obi is different because he doesn’t just make promises, he keeps them and wants Nigerians to hold him accountable.

“His record as governor reflects that commitment. His pledge to serve only four years was publicly affirmed at the party level, and the decision was also documented during the party’s affirmation process, including a resolution on zoning after his term.

“For supporters, this is a clear signal that what he promises is what he intends to do, and it reinforces his message of accountability and trust in leadership.”

Following his official confirmation as the NDC presidential candidate, Obi thereafter unveiled former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Police blockade of PDP convention attack on Nigeria democracy – Agbedi

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, caucus leader at the House Of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has frowned at the Nigeria police blockade of the party’s convention.

Speaking in an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, Agbedi described the action as an attack on Nigeria’s democracy.

Operatives of the Nigeria police on Saturday allegedly barricaded roads leading to the venue scheduled for the ratification of former President Goodluck Jonathan as the presidential candidate of the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP.

Reacting to the incident, Agbedi said, “They blocked the entire route, denied Nigerians access to the road, and prevented the PDP from using a venue it had lawfully secured for its convention.

“Faced with what we believe was an attempt to shrink the political space, the PDP leadership, supporters, and members stood their ground and remained vigilant, ensuring that the convention was not aborted.

“In a democracy, these are troubling signs that should concern every citizen. Any attempt to restrict legitimate political activities undermines democratic values and raises serious questions about the country’s commitment to free, fair, and open political participation.

“Nigerians must remain vigilant in defending democratic space and constitutional freedoms.”
