Confusion as Speaker announces Chinda’s defection to APC, resignation as Minority Leader
There is confusion as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbass, on Tuesday read a letter announcing the defection of Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The development is coming after Chinda already emerged the governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State.
The defection letter read by the Speaker on Tuesday was, however, dated April 23, 2026.
Following the announcement of his defection, Chinda subsequently resigned his position as Minority Leader of the House.
DAILY POST reports that Chinda is already facing a lawsuit over claims that his defection from the PDP to the APC did not follow due process.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is expected to elect a new minority leader following Chinda’s resignation.
