World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremonies: Time, Artists & Guide

Published

on

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is almost here, and the tournament is set to kick off in truly spectacular fashion, not with one opening ceremony, but three.

For the first time in the competition’s history, the host nations will each stage their own individual celebrations before the action gets underway. Mexico, Canada, and the United States are co-hosting the tournament, and all three countries will put their own cultural stamp on proceedings with star-studded, nation-defining events in some of the biggest stadiums ever seen at a World Cup.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has set the tone for what fans can expect:

“These ceremonies will bring together music, culture and football in a way that reflects both the individuality of each nation and the unity that defines this tournament. It is a powerful way to begin a truly global celebration.”

As reported by Time, connecting all three events will be a shared creative thread that reimagines the iconic World Cup trophy through each host nation’s cultural lens. A neat concept that ties the celebrations together while allowing each country to express its own identity.

With 48 nations competing across 104 matches, the World Cup is already the biggest sporting event on the planet. Factor in three opening ceremonies, and the entertainment value goes off the charts. Here’s everything you need to know about each one.

Mexico Opening Ceremony

Date:

June 11, 2026

Time:

1pm local (8pm BST)

Venue:

Estadio Azteca, Mexico City

Notable Acts:

Mana, Alejandro Fernandez, J Balvin

The tournament officially begins in Mexico City on the 11th of June, with the first opening ceremony and match, as Mexico take on South Africa at the Estadio Azteca. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has promised a “historic” and “exceptional” event.

The ceremony is expected to be a full-throated celebration of Latin American culture, with FIFA describing the concept as being brought to life through the art of “papel picado,” the traditional Mexican craft of cutting intricate designs from tissue paper.

The performers more than live up to that billing. Rock legends Mana, one of the best-selling Latin music acts of all time, will take to the stage and has called the tournament the “event of the century” for Mexicans. “Music has the power to bring us all together, no matter where we’re from, and we’re proud to be a part of that celebration,” the band said when confirming their involvement.

Ranchera icon Alejandro Fernandez also features, describing it as a “great honour” to represent “Mexican music to the world.” Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin, who features on Coca-Cola’s official 2026 World Cup anthem “JUMP,” adds further star power, as does an eclectic supporting cast including Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, and South African singer Tyla.

Canada Opening Ceremony

Date:

June 12, 2026

Time:

3pm local (8pm BST)

Venue:

BMO Stadium, Toronto

Notable Acts:

Alanis Morissette, Michael Buble, Jessie Reyez, Elyanna

Canada has never hosted the World Cup, until now, and they’ll take centre stage for the second opening ceremony on the 12th of June, with Toronto Stadium playing host to a lineup that combines homegrown heroes with global names.

For Canada’s celebration, the World Cup trophy will be reimagined “as a mosaic, symbolising the people, cultures and communities that define the country,” according to FIFA, an apt metaphor for one of the world’s most diverse nations. Infantino has already teased the Toronto event as “a powerful reflection of Canada’s identity,” and Prime Minister Mark Carney has made clear that the country “is ready to welcome the world.”

Leading the musical charge is none other than Michael Buble, the Vancouver-born singer who said he “can’t wait to celebrate with fans from around the world.” Toronto-born Jessie Reyez will also perform, joining Palestinian singer Elyanna. The pair have collaborated on “Illuminate,” a track featured on the official World Cup album.

Nora Fatehi, who performed at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, returns to the international stage. Rounding out the Canadian contingent are beloved names Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and William Prince, while Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy and French singer-songwriter Vegedream add further international flavour.

United States Opening Ceremony

Date:

June 12, 2026

Time:

6pm local (2am BST, June 13)

Venue:

SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles

Notable Acts:

Katy Perry, LISA, Anitta, Future, Tyla

The United States closes out the opening ceremony trio in style, with SoFi Stadium, the home of the Los Angeles Rams, hosting the event just six hours after Canada’s.

California’s own Katy Perry headlines, and will be joined by rapper Future and Tyla will return from Mexico to perform one more ceremony. Thai-born global pop star LISA, fresh from her success with K-pop group BLACKPINK, is also on the bill alongside Brazilian hitmaker Anitta and Nigerian superstar Rema, who’ve combined to make World Cup album track “Goals.”

Infantino’s words about the US ceremony capture its ambition:

“The lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas, highlighting the nation’s rich influence on music, entertainment and pop culture, while showcasing the power of music to bring people together across the country.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has asked that “every Angeleno be part of this historic moment,” with the city’s “Kick It In the Park” initiative organising free watch parties, youth soccer clinics, and community celebrations across Los Angeles.

The US last hosted the World Cup in 1994, and they’ll be hoping to put on a better show than what Dianna Ross did, when part of her performance required her to score a penalty that ultimately went wide.

20 Best Premier League Players in 2026/27 Predicted by AI

Published

on

By

AI has predicted which 20 players will perform best in the 2026/27 Premier League season, with the results offering a fascinating insight into which clubs could also come out on top thanks to their star performers.

In the upcoming campaign, Arsenal will be looking to defend their first title in 22 years, but the chasing pack could be anything but a foregone conclusion. Manchester City would ordinarily be among the favourites to challenge them for the title, but with major changes at several of the ‘Big Six’ clubs, this could be one of the hardest seasons to call in decades.

City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United are all starting the campaign with managers they didn’t have before January, while, as always, there has been an influx of new signings. With so many moving parts and plenty of new faces in the dugout and on the pitch, the Premier League could be in for a season where the form book goes out the window and the usual suspects are given a serious run for their money.

With that in mind, AI’s predictions make for particularly interesting reading, as the players expected to shine could have a huge bearing on where their respective clubs finish come May, as well as who could sweep up individual honours such as the Golden Boot and Player of the Year mantles.

20-16

As the most established and settled of the traditional ‘Big Six’ clubs, plenty of Arsenal players are expected to perform to their usual lofty standards again this term. Their consistency is clear for all to see, having finished second three seasons in a row before finally getting over the line and winning the title last season. It’s somewhat surprising, then, that AI has ranked David Raya 20th and his teammate Gabriel 18th.

The Gunners have conceded the fewest goals in each of the last four campaigns, while Gabriel is expected to chip in with a fair few important goals again thanks to Arsenal’s reliance on set pieces. The reason given for their relatively low rankings, however, is that attacking players have been given a higher ceiling when it comes to performance. That’s also why AI ranks Moises Caicedo, who it believes is the league’s ‘best pure defensive midfielder’, in 19th, with his lack of creativity compared to others counting against him.

In 17th, Man City’s Nico O’Reilly is another player expected to go from strength to strength after enjoying a huge breakout season last time out, capped off by scoring twice in the FA Cup final win. Meanwhile, Igor Thiago’s predicted haul of ’18-22′ goals earns him a place in 16th.

AI Predicts 20 Best Players in 2026/27 Premier League Season (20-16)

Player (Club)

AI’s Reasoning

20.

David Raya (Arsenal)

Still elite, but the list is now tilted toward attackers and high-upside players.

19.

Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

Best pure defensive midfielder, but slightly lower ceiling than the creators above.

18.

Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)

Dominant, scores big goals, but Saliba edges him for pure quality.

17.

Nico O’Reilly (Man City)

Progressive, composed, high-upside defender who forces his way into every top-20 chat.

16.

Igor Thiago (Brentford)

Best non-big-six striker by a clear margin. 18–22 goals.

15-11

Bruno Guimaraes, one of the best midfielders in the world, was signed by Arsenal for £75 million from Newcastle earlier this summer. The Brazilian is expected to make his new side’s engine room a whole lot ‘meaner and better’, while Chelsea’s Joao Pedro has been handed a 20-goal prediction for the season – something that would be music to Xabi Alonso’s ears as he looks to address the fact the Blues had no real out-and-out goalscorer last term.

There is no room on the list for Bryan Mbeumo, however. Despite being Man United’s most in-form player during pre-season, it is his teammate Matheus Cunha who is being tipped for the finer campaign, after his 12 goal contributions helped the Red Devils finish third last season. Dominik Szoboszlai has been given the nod at 12th, having often been Liverpool’s saviour during a largely forgettable season that ultimately saw Arne Slot sacked at the end of it.

Just missing out on a place in the top 10 is William Saliba. This might be one of AI’s most surprising picks, given that the Frenchman is expected to be sidelined with injury for the first two or three months of the season, while his defensive teammates tend to produce much more headline-grabbing performances than his understated displays.

AI’s Reasoning

15.

Bruno Guimaraes (Arsenal)

Instant upgrade. Arsenal’s midfield just got meaner and better.

14.

Joao Pedro (Chelsea)

Clinical and mobile. 20-goal season very possible.

13.

Matheus Cunha (Man Utd)

High-volume, high-skill, will thrive next to Fernandes.

12.

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool)

Free-kick merchant + box-to-box monster. Underrated still.

11.

William Saliba (Arsenal)

Best centre-back on the planet when fit.

Rayan Cherki spent all summer wondering why he wasn’t getting enough minutes at the World Cup with France. That pent-up frustration could see him explode out of the blocks when the Premier League gets underway as he hopes to add to his 12 assists from last time out, while Cole Palmer will be hoping to regain his status as Chelsea’s orchestrator under Alonso.

In the worrying case that Palmer fails to rediscover his best form, though, AI believes £117 million signing Morgan Rogers will end up looking like a ‘bargain’. He isn’t quite ready to match Antoine Semenyo’s level yet, though, with his peak season perhaps just around the corner as Man City fans have already hailed Enzo Maresca for making the Ghanaian look ‘better than Lionel Messi’ during pre-season.

In 6th, Declan Rice continues to show he’s one of the best all-around midfielders of his generation. He will no doubt be helped out by club captain Martin Odegaard, as well as the aforementioned Guimaraes, in making Arsenal tick – that companionship perhaps helping him find another gear.

Player (Club)

AI’s Reasoning

10.

Rayan Cherki (Man City)

Pure magic. Will create more “wow” moments than almost anyone.

9.

Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

Will carry Chelsea’s attack and still look bored doing it.

8.

Morgan Rogers (Chelsea)

£117m will look like a bargain. Explosive, decisive, ready.

7.

Antoine Semenyo (Man City)

Breakout complete. Double-digit goals + elite intensity.

6.

Declan Rice (Arsenal)

Still the best midfielder in the league, but no longer automatic No. 1.

5-1

Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland

It’s easy to forget that Florian Wirtz won back-to-back Bundesliga Player of the Year awards before his move to Liverpool, thanks to a disastrous debut campaign on Merseyside. But there’s a world-class player somewhere, and AI believes this coming term is when he announces himself as a genuine Ballon d’Or contender, while making an equally astonishing claim that Bukayo Saka is a top-three player in the world at his best.

In third, AI has gone with Bruno Fernandes, who has created the most chances in the Premier League over the last three seasons. Now armed with good attacking players around him, the Red Devils’ captain is well-equipped to continue breaking records. In second is Jeremy Doku, who added output to his trickery last term to suggest he has more levels to his game still to find.

In first, and with no real surprise, is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker is a goal machine, and many are still wondering if he’s even human after following up his 27 goals in the Premier League last season with seven in just five World Cup appearances. AI has him scoring a cool 35 goals in the next campaign.

Eye-Opening Photo of Islam Makhachev’s Face Days After Ian Machado Garry Fight

Published

Islam Makhachev further solidified his status as the world’s best welterweight fighter this past weekend with a dominant win over Ian Machado Garry, breaking Anderson Silva‘s UFC record with a win streak of 17 after defending his title at UFC 330 in Philadelphia.

The Russian extended his consecutive wins with a unanimous decision victory over the Irishman in the main event at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. This was Makhachev‘s first fight since taking the welterweight title away from Jack Della Maddalena last November.

During the fight, the reigning champion performed a stunning head-kick knockdown in the second round before slamming his opponent into the canvas, which would’ve gone a long way in swaying the judges’ decision. The 28-year-old, in response, was able to land 29 significant strikes, but the 34-year-old was able to shrug them off to win over the three judges. Garry was able to defend admirably, it must be said, as Philly was treated to the whole five rounds.

Although the night ended bloody and bruised, the pair showed great respect for one another, embracing before Makhachev’s arm was raised in victory.

What’s Been Said After Makhachev vs Garry

Following the fight, Makhachev told reporters: “Ian is a great fighter, a good man, and I respect him. He gave me a hard time, but I prove every fight.”

Garry, meanwhile, left the Octagon disappointed, but at 28, he has plenty of time to achieve his dream of becoming a UFC champion.

“To all my fans, Ireland, everybody, I’m sorry I couldn’t get this done. But I stand here as a proud man of what I’ve done, proud of where I came from and proud of where this will take me. To all the fans who doubt me, I’ll be back.”

MMA fans will be eager to see the Dagestani back in the Octagon as soon as possible, and a tease from the man himself will keep the suspense high. The Russian said: “We have to fight before Ramadan, 100 percent.”

Ramadan is expected to take place between February and March 2027, and the champ continued by saying: “I’m 34 years old, I have to fight as soon as possible.”

Islam Makhachev Shows Off Injuries From UFC 330

Now, a mere two days after fighting Garry, Makhachev has been spotted out in public and is seen to have two deep purple bruises surrounding his eyes.

The damage sustained to the Russian’s face has surprised many UFC fans, who have been left questioning when such damage happened, given the fact the Irishman didn’t land too many significant blows.

However, it’s also got them worried about Makhachev’s future in the welterweight division, because if Garry can do that much damage to him, what could bigger, stronger fighters in the same division do?

Bruno Fernandes To Stay At Man Utd Despite €20m-A-Year Galatasaray Offer

Published

Bruno Fernandes is expected to stay at Manchester United despite interest from Galatasaray, GIVEMESPORT understands.

Manchester United sources insist their captain is not for sale at any price this summer, while a €65million release clause for non-English clubs expired last month.

Galatasaray have offered Fernandes an annual salary of more than €20million, and a four-year contract, but Manchester United are not prepared to engage with the Turkish club.

Bruno Fernandes could double his money by moving to Turkey

Fernandes also intends to stay and is in talks with Manchester United to extend his contract. His current deal runs until next summer and contains the option to extend by a further year.

It is not the first time Fernandes has been offered lucrative terms to leave Old Trafford. Last summer, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad all made approaches. Al-Hilal were the most advanced of the three clubs ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup, but Fernandes felt the move was wrong for both football and family reasons.

The 31-year-old Portugal international went on to have an outstanding season with Manchester United, helping them secure Champions League qualification and contributing with 21 assists – a Premier League record for a single season, surpassing both Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry (20). He only failed to manage a goal contribution against three teams – Everton, Sunderland and West Ham.

Bruno Fernandes’ record-breaking 2025/26 season:

Galatasaray value Fernandes at around €50million, but Manchester United have not yet received an offer. Sources say should an approach arrive it would be rejected out of hand.

Turkey’s tax system is far more favourable than in the UK meaning if Fernandes accepted the move he would essentially double his salary.

Galatasaray’s interest will no doubt give Fernandes leverage as he seeks improved terms at Manchester United. The club remain calm over Fernandes’ future having been given a verbal commitment he would not seek an exit this summer when the season ended.

Fernandes has also been linked with AC Milan and Juventus, while Saudi interest remains, especially from Al-Nassr.
