Best Goalkeeper at Every Tournament
The World Cup Golden Glove, known as the Lev Yashin Award between 1994 and 2006, is handed out to the best goalkeeper of each tournament. The award takes its original name from the legendary flat cap-wearing Soviet stopper, widely regarded as the greatest goalkeeper to have ever lived.
From the 2010 World Cup onwards, FIFA rebranded the honour as the Golden Glove, bringing it in line with the tournament’s other individual awards, the Golden Ball for best overall player, and the Golden Boot for the top scorer. The change of name did nothing to diminish the prestige of the award, which remains one of the most coveted individual honours a goalkeeper can receive on the international stage.
Since its inception, it’s been won by some of the most celebrated goalkeepers of their respective generations, each producing tournament performances that have lived long in the memory. Whether commanding their area, organising their defence, or producing match-winning saves at crucial moments, every winner has left their mark on their World Cup.
Here is every recipient, along with what made their tournament so special:

1994 – Michel Preud’homme (Belgium)
Michel Preud’homme was the standout goalkeeper of USA ’94, producing a series of commanding displays for Belgium. The Mechelen shot-stopper was particularly brilliant in the group stage, making crucial saves that kept Belgium competitive in a tough group that included the Netherlands, a side they beat 1-0.
Though his side were knocked out by Germany in the round of 16, Preud’homme’s performances were essential in keeping that match and others competitive for his country and was rewarded with the inaugural Lev Yashin Award.
7
1998 – Fabien Barthez (France)
Fabien Barthez was the last line of a French defence that was the backbone of their home World Cup triumph in 1998. Barthez was as charismatic as he was agile, and kept clean sheets throughout much of the tournament as France marched to glory.
His shot-stopping and commanding presence in the penalty area gave the French backline enormous assurance. While Zinedine Zidane may have grabbed the headlines with his two final headers against Brazil, Barthez’s contribution to France’s title win was equally vital, and the Lev Yashin Award was fitting recognition for a goalkeeper at the very top of his game.
Ranking the 25 Greatest Goalkeepers in Football History
The best goalkeepers to ever play football have been ranked – we’ve managed to narrow it down to 25 legendary shot-stoppers.
6
2002 — Oliver Kahn (Germany)
Oliver Kahn was an all-out shot-stopper for 20 years. He was a colossus for Germany throughout the 2002 World Cup, making save after save to drag his side all the way to the final.
His shot-stopping was utterly fearless, and he single-handedly kept Germany in matches that could easily have gone the other way. Time and again he stood firm when those in front of him couldn’t, producing a tournament that will live long in goalkeeping folklore. Such was the scale of his dominance between the sticks, voters went even further than the Lev Yashin Award, also naming him the best player of the entire tournament, making him the first and only goalkeeper in history to win the Golden Ball.
5
2006 – Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)
Gianluigi Buffon was at the heart of one of the greatest defensive performances in World Cup history as Italy lifted the trophy in Germany.
The Juventus goalkeeper conceded just two goals in the entire tournament. That itself is impressive, but when you realise that one was an own goal, and the other Zinedine Zidane’s Panenka penalty in the final, it makes you do a double take. His commanding displays against Australia, Ukraine, and Germany in the knockout rounds were particularly impressive. Having a backline fronted by Fabio Cannavaro helps, but Buffon had to do the work, and was the obvious choice for the Lev Yashin Award at the end of the tournament.
4
2010 – Iker Casillas (Spain)
Iker Casillas made a career out of impossible saves and clean sheets. He was the captain and the heartbeat of Spain’s historic 2010 World Cup triumph, their first-ever. The Real Madrid legend made several decisive saves throughout the latter stages of the tournament.
In the semi-final, he saved a penalty that kept the match at 0-0 against Paraguay, then in the final stared down Arjen Robben one-on-one twice, and won both times. Spain’s style of play under Vicente del Bosque relied on keeping the ball, but when they needed their goalkeeper, Casillas delivered every time. He lifted the trophy as captain, and the Golden Glove was just one of several honours he collected in what was the peak year of an extraordinary international career that lasted 167 matches.

3
2014 – Manuel Neuer (Germany)
Manuel Neuer’s 2014 World Cup performances did as much as anyone to popularise the concept of the sweeper-keeper. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper operated almost as an auxiliary defender, regularly coming far off his line to intercept through balls and engage attackers one-on-one.
His range of passing and comfort with the ball at his feet were unlike anything previously seen at a World Cup from a goalkeeper. Germany won the tournament, and Neuer was an integral reason why. The Golden Glove recognised not just his elite shot-stopping, but an entirely new way of playing the position that’s influenced goalkeeping ever since.
2
2018 – Thibaut Courtois (Belgium)
Despite Luka Modric taking home the Golden Ball award, Thibaut Courtois was among the best players at the 2018 World Cup in any position.
The then-Chelsea goalkeeper was outstanding as Belgium reached the semi-finals, producing a string of world-class saves that repeatedly kept his side in matches. His performance against Brazil in the quarter-final, in which he single-handedly denied one of the tournament’s most attacking sides, was one of the greatest individual displays of goalkeeping in World Cup history. Belgium were ultimately eliminated by winners France, but Courtois had given everything. The Golden Glove was the least he deserved for a tournament that announced him as the best goalkeeper on the planet.
1
2022 – Emiliano Martinez (Argentina)
Emiliano Martinez played a starring role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph, and not just through conventional goalkeeping.
His shot-stopping throughout the tournament was excellent, especially when he denied Randall Kolo-Muani in the closing seconds of extra-time in the final, but it was his psychological impact in penalty shootouts that set him apart. Against the Netherlands in the quarter-final and France in the final, Martinez was theatrical, provocative, and utterly brilliant in saving crucial penalties and getting inside opponents’ heads. Argentina won the World Cup, and Martínez was awarded the Golden Glove, although what he did with the trophy is a rather forgettable image.

Bruno Fernandes To Stay At Man Utd Despite €20m-A-Year Galatasaray Offer
Bruno Fernandes is expected to stay at Manchester United despite interest from Galatasaray, GIVEMESPORT understands.
Manchester United sources insist their captain is not for sale at any price this summer, while a €65million release clause for non-English clubs expired last month.
Galatasaray have offered Fernandes an annual salary of more than €20million, and a four-year contract, but Manchester United are not prepared to engage with the Turkish club.
Bruno Fernandes could double his money by moving to Turkey
Fernandes also intends to stay and is in talks with Manchester United to extend his contract. His current deal runs until next summer and contains the option to extend by a further year.
It is not the first time Fernandes has been offered lucrative terms to leave Old Trafford. Last summer, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad all made approaches. Al-Hilal were the most advanced of the three clubs ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup, but Fernandes felt the move was wrong for both football and family reasons.
The 31-year-old Portugal international went on to have an outstanding season with Manchester United, helping them secure Champions League qualification and contributing with 21 assists – a Premier League record for a single season, surpassing both Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry (20). He only failed to manage a goal contribution against three teams – Everton, Sunderland and West Ham.
Bruno Fernandes’ record-breaking 2025/26 season:

Galatasaray value Fernandes at around €50million, but Manchester United have not yet received an offer. Sources say should an approach arrive it would be rejected out of hand.
Turkey’s tax system is far more favourable than in the UK meaning if Fernandes accepted the move he would essentially double his salary.
Fees correct prior to summer 2026
All 10 found — excellent!
Galatasaray’s interest will no doubt give Fernandes leverage as he seeks improved terms at Manchester United. The club remain calm over Fernandes’ future having been given a verbal commitment he would not seek an exit this summer when the season ended.
Fernandes has also been linked with AC Milan and Juventus, while Saudi interest remains, especially from Al-Nassr.

Donald Trump’s Ex-Caddie Revealed Cheating Instructions He’d Receive to Win Golf Tournaments
By all accounts, winning more than 40 club golf titles would be an incredibly impressive, not to mention commendable, feat. But what about if you’re Donald Trump?
The US president has bragged repeatedly about his trophy-winning talents around the golf course, most recently shooting a supposed 70 around the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster to take home yet another championship.
Admitting he had “very little time to practice” due to being focused on many other things, unlike the rest of the field, the 80-year-old declared: “It’s called TALENT, and I have it, and they don’t!”
Whether he has it, though, is a question that routinely follows the president around golf courses. Trump has been regularly accused of being a cheat, with an ex-caddie now revealing the exact nature of just how true that is.
Donald Trump’s Love Story With Golf
Releasing a book back in 2005 which featured advice from different golf professionals and teachers, Trump described golf as “more than a game. It is a passion” for both himself and millions of people around the world.
He’s still found time for that passion, even as the most powerful man in the world. The sight of him hitting the golf course has proven to be a regular thing in his two terms as President of the United States, routinely playing alongside different celebrities, from UFC stars such as Bo Nickal through to footballers including England captain Harry Kane.
Trump owns a number of golf courses, having steadily built a portfolio of them as a real estate developer over the years. He opened the first in 1999 in Florida and has seen them play host to a number of PGA and LPGA events. This includes courses in Scotland, the UAE, Puerto Rico and Indonesia, as well as the USA. He also claims to be something of a virtuoso around them, allegedly winning over 40 championships, all of them at his own courses.
Donald Trump Exposed by Ex-Caddie
Rick Reilly’s book, Commander In Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, runs through the cheating accusations levelled at the president in depth, including his nickname of ‘Pele’ as he allegedly “kicks his ball back onto the fairway.”
Interviewing Trump back in 2000, Reilly was told by him that he’d already won 12 championships. He referred to Trump’s boasting about these victories as “a lie that’s so over-the-top Crazytown it loses all credibility among golfers the second it’s out of his mouth.”
That number has seemingly grown substantially since then, with Reilly shedding some light on just how he’s managed to pull it off.
“Well, actually, what Trump has is caddies waiting out ahead on the course, fluffing up his lies, throwing his balls out of bunkers and picking up eight-foot putts they’ve decided he doesn’t need to make. I talked to an ex-caddie of his, who said, ‘Everybody knows the deal. He has to win the tournament and shoot the lowest score. It’s your job to make sure’.”
There is also video evidence of this in practice. Footage re-shared to social media recently shows Trump pulling up to a bunker in a buggy, flanked by two caddies, one of which uses the natural back and forth of his arms as he walks to drop a golf ball behind him without breaking stride.
While the clip does not show if Trump actually plays the dropped ball, it does look as if the president is about to set himself for the shot from there.
“So now I have the Championship Cheat Chart at 40 wins,” continued Reilly. “Though an onlooker at Bedminster taking a video of the awards said that by his count, Trump is up to 43.”

Jacob Fatu’s 7-Word Tweet About Hayden Panettiere’s Death Causes Stir
Many were left shocked and saddened after the death of Hayden Panettiere, but one reaction from the world of wrestling has caused a stir.
A former child star, who appeared as Claire Bennet in the television show Heroes and Kirby Reed in the Scream horror movie franchise, Panettiere died aged 36 after being found unresponsive in an apartment.
Tributes poured in from across the world of entertainment and beyond, including from her former fiancee and father of her daughter, heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, who said “nothing will erase the times we shared or the place she had in our lives.”
It’s the words of another, however, that have been gaining traction in social media circles, with WWE Superstar Jacob Fatu raising eyebrows with his reaction.
Jacob Fatu’s Wrestling Career
Fatu signed for WWE in 2024 and has quickly established himself as a star, building on a record-making 819-day run as Major League Wrestling’s (MLW) world heavyweight champion.
The 34-year-old has been wrestling professionally since 2012 and performed under a number of organisations, including All Pro Wrestling, DEFY Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling, House of Glory, and PCW Ultra. It was at MLW, however, where he really started to make a name for himself.
That success saw him earn a move to WWE, joining Solo Sikoa, his real life cousin, in The Bloodline, before establishing himself as a star by winning the WWE Tag Team Championship and WWE United States Championship.
He was in action at SummerSlam, performing on night 1, back with The Bloodline, alongside The Usos, actually coming up against Solo Sikoa, Royce Keys, and LA Knight in a six-man tag team match. They lost, however, with Fatu being Powerbombed by Keys.
The Seven Words From Fatu Causing a Stir
After TMZ posted about Hayden Panettiere’s passing, Fatu reposted it, writing: “THE TRUTH WILL COME TO THE LIGHT!!”
At the time of writing, the post has amassed over 2,300 retweets and more than 29,000 likes. It has been viewed 3.1 million times. It’s unclear exactly what Fatu meant with the post, but that did not stop fans from flocking to his replies to express their disapproval.
One wrote, “lol be careful homie. Remember who you work for”, while another urged Fatu to “please delete this bro.”
One user pleaded with Fatu to “get off social media, man PLEASE”, while @MomsProllyMad encouraged him to “let WWE social media team run your accounts, you gonna have some cocktails and say something stupid, and wind up in aew.”
