8 Sets of Siblings Will Be at the 2026 World Cup

Published

The 2026 World Cup will see eight sets of brothers competing, but they aren’t all representing the same nation as their siblings.

This year’s 48-team tournament is the biggest in the competition’s history, meaning even more countries are given the opportunity to perform on the biggest stage. That also means the number of players showcased in the United States, Canada and Mexico has increased massively.

However, it’s still a surprise to see as many as eight sets of siblings make it to world football’s biggest competition. It’s even more mind-blowing to learn that four of them play for a different country to their brothers.

Lucas and Theo Hernandez

Some of the more famous brother duos to play at World Cup finals include the Ayews (Jordan and Andre) and the Hazards (Eden and Thorgan). The former both participated for Ghana, while the latter pair appeared as Belgium players.

Following that trend are Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber and his brother, Quinten. The versatile duo are both part of Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad. They’ll be delighted to hear they’ve even been predicted to win the whole competition.

Lucas and Theo Hernandez are in the unique position that they are actually competing with each other for the same position in France’s starting XI. The defenders are both left-footed and will hope to be the left-back for Didier Deschamps this summer.

Elsewhere, Laros Duarte and Deroy Duarte are both heading to the competition as Cape Verde make their first-ever World Cup appearance. Likewise, Leandro and Juninho Bacuna are playing for Curacao, with the latter captaining his country.

Siblings Competing Against Each Other

Inaki Williams and Nico Williams

The most high-profile set of relatives on opposing sides this summer are the Williams brothers. Nico was a key part of Spain’s Euro 2024 success and is part of Luis de la Fuente’s squad once again. His older brother, meanwhile, will face England as part of Ghana’s hopeful unit.

Desire Doue got firsthand experience of what could happen if his France side come up against Ivory Coast and his sibling, Guela, this summer. In a pre-tournament friendly, the Strasbourg full-back scored and registered an assist as the Africans defeated Les Bleus.

Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey was called up to the Netherlands squad after an impressive debut season in England. His brother, Derrick Luckassen, is a centre-back for Ghana.

The Souttars are heading to the competition. Both are central defenders and are expected to have starting roles for their respective nations. Harry will represent Australia, while John plays for Steven Clarke’s Scotland.

Forget Rogers: Arsenal Want Morgan Gibbs-White

Published

After winning the Premier League, Arsenal are now looking to take their squad to the next level with some star-studded quality on the radar for the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are in the market for a number ten, as recent reports have claimed that Morgan Rogers is a transfer target, having shown plenty of quality in his time playing for Aston Villa and the England national team.

Any move could prove costly, however, meaning that Arsenal and Mikel Arteta could look elsewhere in the market for players who can still bring some attacking quality, but at a different price.

With that in mind, the North London club have seemingly shortlisted another Premier League star, with the Sun reporting interest in the playmaker.

Arsenal Shortlist Morgan Gibbs-White

According to the report from the Sun, Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

It’s claimed that the 26-year-old is viewed as an alternative to Rogers, with there being some admirers over his talent in the backroom team at the Emirates Stadium.

The attacking midfielder was linked with an exit from Nottingham Forest last summer, as he emerged as an option for rivals Tottenham, coming as an alternative to Eberechi Eze after the Gunners swooped to land him.

While the direction of travel indicated that a switch would be on the cards, Gibbs-White instead signed a new contract at the City Ground, extending his stay until 2028.

That led to another impressive season with Nottingham Forest, even with relegation fears creeping into the Premier League campaign, as he became a surprise omission from the England World Cup squad.

With two years remaining on that contract, there is a possibility that Gibbs-White could be on the move this summer, though Forest appear reluctant to allow that to happen.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will put forward a compelling offer or not, as Premier League rivals also consider a switch for the talisman.

In Rogers and Gibbs-White, Arsenal have two impressive options who can help break games open more frequently than the team currently does.

Both stars find plenty of goals and assists for their respective teams, finding a way to make the play centre around them to help create and score opportunities.

Gibbs-White is three years older than Rogers, but is arguably playing in a team that is worse, making his statistics for the season all the more impressive.

It’s no surprise that the midfielder has been dubbed as “one of the best players in the Premier League” in the past few seasons because of the importance of his performances.

Arsenal could enjoy a strong summer window.

What is important for Arsenal is a mixture of age profile, instinctive quality and the dynamics in the squad. The one who ticks the most boxes will be the one who should be on the club’s radar as a priority.

It remains to be seen which of the two they could formalise interest in, but it’s clear that the Gunners have a plan to improve their playmaking abilities.

Tottenham Seal Contract Terms For Savinho

Published

Tottenham are closing in on another potential arrival in the summer transfer window, with Italian journalist Nico Schira reporting that an agreement in principle has been reached on personal terms with one target.

It comes as Spurs continue to move at a quick pace in the market, sealing moves for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers.

There have been two bids now rejected for Jan Paul van Hecke, with a potential third on the way, as Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuild is now firmly underway.

While the defensive ranks have been a clear area of focus, the next priority is the forward areas, with an agreement reached for one potential arrival.

Savinho Contract Agreement

Savinho celebrates a goal for Man City

Tottenham have shown plenty of interest in Savinho over the past year or so, opting against in the past two transfer windows, but interest has been revived once again.

Recent reports have claimed that Spurs are pushing to land the Manchester City winger, with a contract offer in the region of £120,000-a-week claimed to be made.

Now, Schira has reported via X that an agreement in principle has been reached between Tottenham and Savinho on the terms of a contract that will last until 2031.

The journalist claims that Roberto De Zerbi is keen on the 22-year-old, who has been described as “gifted” for his performances so far with City after costing them £30m.

All that is left is for a club-to-club agreement to be reached, before putting the finishing touches on the contract talks to secure yet another high-profile arrival.

That may get Tottenham closer to where they want to be, adding a player with Premier League quality and potential to grow even further in the future.

In Savinho, Tottenham could have an ideal one-on-one winger, who is capable of driving the team forward and making things happen in the final third.

It’s something Spurs have been lacking in recent seasons, not least due to injuries in the forward areas, but the Brazilian forward could provide that in bucket loads.

There are question marks over his end product, having scored just seven goals for Man City since joining the club, but that clinical edge is all that is missing so far.

It was something Pep Guardiola touched on earlier this season, when he said: “What I like from Savinho is always he is digging, go, go, go, all the time.

Tottenham are busy ahead of the summer window.

“The final decision can be better, of course, but always I reward this work ethic and especially because he goes and he goes all the time.”

That’s something Tottenham will be hoping De Zerbi can add to his game, coaching the 22-year-old to capitalise on the quality he has in general play.

If the forward can do that, then he will go on to become an important player in the Premier League for Spurs.
