Peter Obi: ‘Nobody will cause problems between me, my boss’ – Datti Ahmed
Former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba Ahmed has warned critics against causing issues between him and the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi.
Datti spoke in an interview with Channels TV on Sunday while responding to criticism that he was unable to win his ward and Local Government for the Labour Party in 2023.
He said Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the LP in 2023, remains in his list of respected politicians.
According to Datti, though they have both parted and are now in different political parties, they have mutual respect for each other.
He said, “Nobody will cause a problem between me and my boss, Peter Obi. We can be in different parties today but I still have respect for him as someone who governed and someone who doesn’t give shishi.
“Peter Obi and I have mutual respect for each other, so nobody will come between us”.

Dele Momodu shares campaign poster projecting him as Atiku’s 2027 running mate
Publisher and politician, Dele Momodu has shared a campaign-style poster on social media portraying him as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu, who posted the image on his Facebook page on Monday, accompanied it with a message calling for national reconciliation, re-orientation and reconstruction.
He described the 2027 presidential election as a likely contest between President Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, whom he identified as the leading challengers in the race.
According to Momodu, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, should adopt a new political approach by bridging the gap between older and younger generations of leaders, as well as between experienced politicians and technocrats.

“It promises to be the battle of the Tians. A third force, hopefully, may show up, like it did in 2023, but not with enough fire power and tenacity to upstage, and obliterate, the two elder statesmen,” he said.
He argued that such a strategy would help foster national unity and address the country’s growing political and social tensions.
The Ovation magazine publisher also stressed the need for stronger cooperation between Northern and Southern Nigeria, warning that the country’s current challenges could worsen if political leaders fail to act.
He called for a return to issue-based politics and leadership inspired by the ideals of Nigeria’s founding fathers, including Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

2027: Iyabo Obasanjo dumps APC, cites disrespect, maltreatment by party leadership

By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta
Former Senator representing Ogun Central and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged disrespect, rejection, and maltreatment by the ruling party’s leadership in the State.
Prof. Obasanjo, who recently contested for the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, announced her resignation in a letter dated May 31 and addressed to the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Chief Yemi Sanusi.
A copy of the resignation letter was made available to journalists on Monday.
The US-based Associate Professor of Epidemiology faulted the consensus arrangement that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as the APC’s governorship candidate in Ogun State, describing the process as inconsistent with the party’s established guidelines.
The former senator, who represented Ogun Central between 2007 and 2011, stated that although she had publicly and privately pledged to abide by any consensus decision reached by the party, the leadership failed to carry her along before announcing Adeola as the consensus candidate.
According to her, the process violated the APC’s own rules, which require consultation and agreement among aspirants before a consensus candidate is adopted.
She further alleged that some of her supporters were violently prevented from entering the venue where Adeola’s emergence was announced.
Despite her reservations, Obasanjo said she chose to prioritize party unity and immediately congratulated the candidate while pledging her support for his gubernatorial ambition.
She disclosed that Adeola subsequently contacted her to appreciate her statesmanship and later met with her and her supporters.
During the meeting, she said her supporters presented three requests to the senator, stressing that none of them was compulsory.
According to her, Adeola promised to respond within one week, but allegedly failed to do so more than two months later.
The former Ogun State Commissioner for Health said the incident was only one among several experiences that left her feeling rejected and unappreciated within the party.
The letter reads: “When I started the journey to get the party’s nomination for Governor, I came to see you and I said to you and everyone both privately and publicly that I will honor the party’s consensus decision once it has been made.
“When that day came, even as violence was perpetrated against my supporters to stop them from entering the venue, I maintained my
calmness.
“At the venue, with no prior meeting with me as a candidate, given what the national party says in its guidelines on what consensus should be, i.e., having meetings where all candidates agree to the candidate that will be announced, a candidate was announced.
“No one acknowledged my presence at the meeting, given that I was the most prominent opposition to the candidate chosen, and I had traversed the state mobilizing and encouraging grassroots APC support.
“Based on my conviction that party unity is important, I wrote my letter accepting the party’s consensus candidate that night, even with the flawed process. The consensus candidate called me the next morning and asked for a meeting with my followers and me, which we had about 2 weeks later.
“At that meeting, my people made 3 requests, which I said were not compulsory, but he should let me know so I would let my people
know his responses, and he said I should give him a week.
“Unless he gets back to me after I send this letter, he has not reached out to me after 2 months. This is just part of the general treatment I have received from APC of disrespect and rejection, as if I were not there, making contributions that increased support for the party in
Ogun Central and across the state.
“A famous person once said that when disrespect is the
only dish served, then one should leave the table. I am therefore leaving the APC table where I am not welcome. This is my resignation from the party.
Despite her grievances, Obasanjo expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, Ogun APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, and the Ogun Central Senatorial Chairman, Chief Soremi, for what she described as their warm disposition towards her during her brief stay in the party.
“Through you, I want to thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for receiving me warmly as usual, and I thank you and our Ogun Central Senatorial Chairman, Chief Soremi, as both of you treated me well, and I will always remember that. Best Regards.
Prof. Obasanjo formally returned to partisan politics in January this year when she registered as a member of the APC in Ward 11, Ibogun, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Speculation about her political comeback intensified late last year when campaign-style billboards bearing her image appeared across Abeokuta with the inscription: “In Ogun State, we know ourselves. Sen. (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo. Omo wa ni, eniyan wa ni, ara wa ni.”
The development fueled discussions about her possible governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

2027: Odigie-Oyegun cries out over rising political defections
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, John Odigie-Oyegun, has expressed concern over the increasing trend of defections, resignations and party switching among political leaders, describing the development as a reflection of deeper problems within Nigeria’s political system.
Speaking in Benin, Edo State, on Sunday, the former governor said the frequent movement of politicians from one party to another following disagreements raises questions about the commitment of the country’s political class to national development and the welfare of citizens.
Odigie-Oyegun noted that the growing rate at which political leaders abandon their parties suggests that fundamental issues remain unresolved within the nation’s democratic structure.
According to him, the conduct of many politicians does not reflect a genuine desire to address the challenges confronting Nigerians, including economic hardship and insecurity.
He argued that if political actors were truly focused on rescuing the country and improving the lives of citizens, much of the political realignment currently unfolding ahead of the 2027 general elections would not be taking place.
The ADC stalwart said the political class appeared disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians, adding that its actions often fail to demonstrate a sincere commitment to national progress.
“If political leaders were genuinely driven by the desire to rescue the nation, many of the developments we are witnessing as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace would not have emerged,” he said.
He maintained that efforts should be directed towards tackling pressing national issues rather than engaging in political manoeuvres that do little to improve the lives of the people.
Odigie-Oyegun also urged opposition figures across the country to reflect on their motivations and determine whether their actions are truly aimed at alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
He stressed the need for opposition leaders to remain focused on providing solutions to the country’s challenges instead of pursuing narrow political ambitions.
Despite his concerns, the former governor expressed confidence in the prospects of the opposition, stating that a level playing field and strong institutions could create the conditions necessary for a change in political leadership.
He added that the opposition remains capable of challenging the ruling party successfully if the electoral process and state institutions operate fairly and transparently.
