Morgan Rogers has been called out by Piers Morgan for a comment he made after signing for Chelsea.

The 23-year-old was one of the most in-demand players in world football this summer after shining for Aston Villa in recent years.

Arsenal were keen to secure his signature with Mikel Arteta believed to have made him his top target this summer. However, it was Chelsea who won the race to sign the Englishman as he completed a £117m move on Tuesday evening.

It has since been claimed by the Athletic that Arsenal had valued Rogers at £80m and were determined to stick to it, despite Villa’s insistence on attaining a record fee for a British player.

In Chelsea’s video announcing the signing of Rogers, the Man City academy graduate was asked by Jason Cundy why he had chosen to sign for the Blues. He replied:

“I’m a free spirit, free-flowing footballer, I like to take risks, make things happen, change games, whatever that might take. I can’t wait to get going.”

Rogers calling Chelsea the biggest club in London has not gone down well with some, including Piers Morgan. Taking to social media, the Arsenal fan responded:

Rogers was full of praise for Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso as he expressed his excitement about working with him. He said, per Chelsea’s official website:

“I’ve had a few conversations with him and I think it’s important for me to be here that I need to understand what the manager’s like, how he is and how he wants to operate.

“It very much fits with the way I see the game, the way I want to play, and the way I want to be me, and be free and express myself. Him being a part of that was a massive factor in me being here.”

A move to Chelsea also sees Rogers reunite with his good friend, Cole Palmer. The two formed a close bond while they were playing together at Manchester City.

He said of Palmer: “I’ve known Cole since I was about 14, first in the England [youth] teams and then when we were both at Man City together. We’ve been speaking about this for a while; we always would love to have played together. So, for it to happen, we’re both excited.

“He’s non-stop ringing my phone, texting me, and I can’t wait. I think that’s probably the most special thing, playing with one of your best friends and being around him every day. It’s something I’m really excited about.”

American actor Samuel L. Jackson has sparked a major stir with his social media post about Argentina following the 2026 World Cup final.

Argentina went head-to-head with Spain at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Lionel Scaloni’s side were hoping to become just the third side in history to retain the World Cup.

However, they fell at the final hurdle as Spain beat them 1-0. Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the game in the second half of extra-time as La Roja became champions of the world for a second time.

American actor Jackson followed the World Cup closely. He was present at Dalas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 3 to watch the last 32 clash between Australia and Egypt.

The 77-year-old shared a post following the World Cup final which claimed that Argentina were ‘one of the most racist countries in the world.’

The post read: “Dear Black People… Please do not cheer or root for Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup. Argentina has historically been one of, if not the most racist countries in the world. ‘If you are a Black person cheering for Argentina, this is what you look like to me’. We hear you loud and clear.”

Alongside the post was an AI-generated photo of what appears to be his character from the movie Django Unchained in an Argentina jersey.

Jackson’s character in the 2012 movie, Stephen, is a senior enslaved man fiercely loyal to his white owner, Calvin Candie, a brutal plantation owner in 1850s Mississippi.

Jackson’s post has caused a major stir. Influencer and stand-up comedian Ari Balanga was born in Angola but moved to Argentina in 2015. He has slammed Jackson in a post on Instagram.

“I’m so tired talking about the same again, again and again. But some people need to know the truth. Because I’m so tired.” After saying he was a big fan of Jackson’s character in Avengers, he added:

“You’ve got a lot of people that hate Barack Obama. You have a lot of good people too. Don’t generalise. People here are free, so I want to invite you, Samuel, to meet a true Argentine, not rumours about Argentines.”

He concluded: “Please don’t do that anymore. Please just keep making movies.”

Maca Lara Dillon, who migrated to Argentina in the 2000s, wrote on X: “I’ve lived in Argentina for over 18 years. I’m a migrant here. And I want to say it clearly: Samuel L. Jackson’s accusation is false.

“I’m not speaking from theory. I’m speaking from the experience of having built a life here, of having been welcomed, integrated, of having seen firsthand what it means to be a country made of migrants.

“Before pointing fingers, it might be worth looking at your own history. Argentina has its own unresolved issues, like any country – but calling it ‘the most racist country in the world’ isn’t criticism, it’s misinformation. You should be ashamed.”

While Argentine TV host and investigative journalist Guadalupe Vázquez wrote: “Ignorance is dangerous but ignorance coming from a rich, famous, privileged Beverly Hills actor is SHAMEFUL.”

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that the AFA are ‘considering carrying out legal action’ following the ‘spread of misinformation’ about their players during the 2026 World Cup.

In the new season of WWE Unreal, John Cena revealed the reason why his short stint as heel came to an early end.

After 23 years in the industry, January 2025 marked the official beginning of Cena’s retirement tour. The run lasted 11 months before his final match took place against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII.

He may have started and ended the run as a babyface, but the time between those moments is the real talking point. Cena did the unthinkable at Elimination Chamber in March 2025. After aligning with The Rock and Travis Scott, Cena attacked Cody Rhodes after the match, turning the Superstar heel.

In the Netflix documentary series, both Cena and WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque realised that the storyline needed to take a different direction in order to reach its conclusion.

Cena explained that he wanted to “ruin wrestling” with his turn, making fans bored of his matches rather than just simply booing him. He went on to say: “I have to formulate a why. Why, after 23 years, am I doing this?… That means win the WWE Championship, with methodical, catastrophically boring work.

Cena went on to reveal that he wanted fans to dislike him so much that they left his title defences feeling disappointed and said: “People were like, ‘That’s it? What a s***** main event,’ that’s what I was going for.”

Eventually, WWE decided that it had crossed a line, and Cena was told: “That was too boring. Like, that was too bad. I think people are going to stop coming.” However, it went past just hating Cena’s character. In fact, Cena revealed that the message from WWE stated: “This heat isn’t on you. This heat is on the company.”

Triple H agreed that Cena’s ideas made sense, but it came to a point where the concept had reached its maximum. He explained: “There was a point in time where I was like ‘this ain’t working’. You gotta deliver for these people. Hopefully you’ll do it in a manner in which they don’t like that. But you give them your greatness still.”

At the go-home show for SummerSlam in August, Cena turned back to babyface in a segment with Rhodes.

“Cody at SummerSlam was supposed to be him beating virtue into me,” Cena explained. “But the fans beat him to it. ‘We want John back’ — no problem.”

Despite the turn only lasting a few months, it allowed Cena to “swim in uncomfortable waters.” It was a major risk that Cena and WWE took, potentially losing fans due to the heat they were getting, but overall, it was a new way of approaching a storyline for one of the sport’s biggest stars.
