‘Be bold to support your kinsman’ – Atiku blasts Obasanjo over Na’Abba bribery claim
By Omeiza Ajayi
Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s allegation that he bribed the late Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba to impeach him as politically motivated, aimed at boosting the electoral fortunes of Obasanjo’s preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, on Friday, Atiku said: “Coming at a time when the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election is taking shape, the obvious objective is to besmirch my person and reputation and confer an undeserved political advantage on the former President’s kinsman. Nigerians, however, know better. They are too discerning to be distracted by stale allegations resurrected for political convenience.”
The ADC leader urged Obasanjo to declare his political preference publicly rather than rely on unverifiable allegations, saying, “If former President Obasanjo has chosen to take a political position ahead of 2027, he should simply declare it and allow Nigerians to judge it on its merits, rather than attempting to influence public opinion through allegations that can no longer be tested because the principal witness is no longer alive.”
The former vice president questioned why Obasanjo chose to make the allegation only after Na’Abba’s death, arguing that this denied Nigerians the opportunity to hear the other side of the story.
He insisted the allegation lacked any judicial or official backing, adding, “If there was indeed evidence of any criminal conduct as alleged, Nigerians are entitled to ask why no action was taken at the time by a government that wielded the full powers of the Nigerian state.”
Atiku also linked Obasanjo’s continued hostility to his own opposition to a third-term agenda for the former President, stating: “Rather than surrender democratic principles on the altar of personal ambition, I defended the Constitution and successfully asserted my rights through the courts in a series of landmark legal victories against a sitting President. Those battles are now part of Nigeria’s democratic history. It is evident that the bitterness arising from that defining period has failed to leave former President Obasanjo.”
He said he would not be drawn into historical political disputes while the country contends with economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and hunger.
“Our focus remains unwavering: offering credible alternatives, defending democracy, demanding accountability and working with all patriotic Nigerians to restore competent, transparent and people-centred leadership to our country. Nigerians deserve solutions to today’s problems, not recycled political tales from yesterday,” Atiku said.

2027: Ex-Oyo LG chair, Oladeji dumps APC for APM

A former Chairman of Aare Latosa Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Oyo State, Hon. Adekunle Oladeji, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oladeji, who left the APC, has joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
DAILY POST gathered that Oladeji served as chairman of the LCDA during the tenure of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
The LCDA is one of the LCDAs under Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Our correspondent gathered that Oladeji’s father, Alhaji B.A.O. Oladeji, served as Oyo South Senatorial District Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the political parties that merged to form the APC between 2014 and 2015.
His father remains a major stakeholder in the APC in the state.
DAILY POST gathered that while the father remains a key figure in the APC, the son has moved to the APM.
It was learnt that the younger Oladeji has publicly declared his support for the APM governorship candidate, Mr. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Governor Seyi Makinde, who is the party’s presidential candidate.
Oladeji, when contacted, confirmed the development to DAILY POST on Saturday.
Speaking, he noted that he had dumped the APC and joined the APM ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a short message sent to DAILY POST, Oladeji said the news of his defection to the APM was true.
“Yes. It is confirmed,” he said.

We are fully prepared to participate in 2027 general elections – Imo APP chair, Njesi
The Imo State Chairman of the Action Peoples Party, APP, Ernest Njesi, has declared the party’s readiness to participate in the forthcoming general elections, maintaining that the party has fielded candidates for all elective positions.
Njesi made the assertion during a media chat with journalists in Owerri, where he disclosed that the APP is not only prepared but also fully optimistic that its 2027 outing will be a successful one.
The Imo APP chairman stated that the party has already registered all its candidates with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and is battle-ready to win many elective seats.
“We have presented before INEC three senatorial candidates, 10 House of Representatives candidates, and 27 candidates for the State House of Assembly, and they have all been approved to participate in the 2027 electoral contest,” he said.
Njesi added that the party will continue visiting communities across the state to encourage the electorate to support the party and educate them about its programmes.
He further said that the party leadership in the state is using the medium to condemn the alleged attack on its secretariat and the destruction of its billboards, an act he claimed was orchestrated by political opponents in the state.
Njesi, however, maintained that no political intimidation can stop the party from participating in the forthcoming general elections.
He advised other political parties to channel their energy into selling their manifestoes to the electorate rather than engaging in political violence.

PDP: Turaki camp meets Jonathan
By Luminous Jannamike
ABUJA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Interim National Working Committee, under its Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, has held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, in what appeared to be the party’s first high-level consultation following the Federal High Court judgment on a suit instituted by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Although neither the PDP nor the former president disclosed the purpose of the meeting, party sources said the discussions centred on the implications of the court’s decision and what it means for the party as it seeks to resolve its lingering leadership dispute.
Led by Turaki, the delegation visited Jonathan at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory. The party did not disclose the identities of other members of the team, neither did it issue a statement after the meeting.
The consultation came days after the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a suit filed by the PDP Board of Trustees seeking an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led interim National Working Committee and publish its details on the commission’s records.
The court upheld the preliminary objections raised by INEC and other defendants, holding that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to institute the action and that it had no jurisdiction to entertain the suit.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Salim Ibrahim said, “The court does not decide hypothetical or academic questions,” adding that the evidence before it showed INEC had monitored the PDP convention that produced the rival leadership recognised by the electoral umpire.
He further held that the suit sought to reopen issues already settled in previous proceedings before striking it out.
A source familiar with the meeting told Sunday Vanguard, “The discussion was essentially on the implications of the judgment. The delegation briefed the former president on the outcome of the case and sought his views on the way forward for the party.”
The meeting comes at a critical time for the opposition party as it continues efforts to steady its leadership and respond to legal and political developments ahead of future electoral activities.
