The list of nations that have officially declared their opposition to Gianni Infantino’s FIFA presidency is growing by the day.

Infantino had the support of nearly every FIFA member going into the World Cup. Over 200 of its members sent letters to FIFA declaring their support for the 56-year-old’s re-election as president.

However, his plan to sell off stakes in FIFA’s major competitions to private investors, which he had to abandon following widespread outrage, has led to many losing confidence in his leadership.

As of the time of writing, 12 countries have now made their opposition to Infantino public.

11 UEFA Members Have Declared Opposition to Infantino

UEFA have threatened to boycott FIFA competitions in the future and 11 of its members have made their opposition to Infantino public.

It was revealed by former Premier League footballer Jan Aage Fjørtoft that Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany never sent a letter to FIFA backing Infantino’s re-election. They have all since called on him to be replaced.

President of the Norwegian Football Federation, Lise Klaveness, has long opposed the 56-year-old. Sepp Blatter has praised her in recent times, saying that she should replace Infantino as FIFA president.

Wales became the first FIFA nation to withdraw their support for the current FIFA president earlier this week. They said in a statement:

England have since followed suit, as have Germany, Serbia, Greece, Albania and the Netherlands.

Jordan Only Non-UEFA Member to Declare Opposition to Infantino

The only non-UEFA member that have publicly expressed their opposition for Infantino’s FIFA presidency is 2026 World Cup participant, Jordan.

Jordan chief Prince Ali bin Al Hussein accused Infantino of blackmail in an incredible statement. He wrote: “First, getting our fans into the USA: not all were granted VISAS, even though they had tickets – which we also know were sold at exorbitant prices.

“Secondly, we are being taxed by the US govt through FIFA for our participation. Money that should go to players and staff. This was not the case for those who played and set up camp in Canada and Mexico. But we happened to be in the USA so now we face these huge costs in taxes for having participated.

“Thirdly, we have been waiting for reward money for our players since December for the Arab Cup in Qatar, which is a FIFA event. The money our team should receive for having reached the final has not been delivered yet, while at the same time FIFA brags about how many billions they have in reserve.

“For months, FIFA has been refusing to help us on any of these or other matters – until it was verbally communicated to me during the World Cup that if I endorsed Infantino, it would go a long way to helping our FA out.

Ali has since declared that FIFA have paid Jordan the money they are owed, but said that does not change his opinion of him. He said: “It does not change my clear position concerning the leadership of Fifa: my FA and I will not endorse President Infantino, nor will we vote for him.”

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Chelsea over a deal to sign Pedro Neto as a Savinho alternative, with an ultimatum offered.

Spurs have had a very busy summer window with six new arrivals, but manager Roberto De Zerbi is desperate to make more additions to the squad, and in particular his attack, before the start of the new season in three weeks.

The north London club have made Man City star Savinho their top target, but talks have been ongoing for several weeks now with little progress made, and it has now emerged that Spurs have begun looking at alternative options after growing frustrated with the Cityzens.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Tottenham have made contact with Chelsea to find out the terms of a deal to sign winger Pedro Neto this summer.

Neto, who has been described as “world-class” by Liam Rosenior, has emerged as a target for Manchester City in this window for new manager Enzo Maresca, who managed him at Stamford Bridge previously. But City’s move for the Portugal international is dependent on Savinho leaving.

The Brazilian remains Spurs’ top target for the window, but they have now entered the conversation around the former Wolves star, and have made it clear to Man City that they want a final resolution on the future of Savinho before the end of the week.

Chelsea are understood to be open to allowing Neto for leave for a fee of around £60m, and City have made it clear that they would be prepared to meet that valuation.

Neto is not pushing for a move away from Chelsea, but is assessing all of his options following the arrivals of Morgan Rogers and Geovany Quenda in Xabi Alonso’s squad in this window.

City are currently delaying negotiations over Savinho as they want a replacement through the door first, but with Spurs now willing to rival them for Neto’s signature, a domino of deals could be about to take place.

Pedro Neto ‘Key’ to Chelsea

Neto has been a regular at Chelsea since joining from Wolves, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Portugal international is someone who is considered to be ‘key’ for Xabi Alonso’s project.

However, the club are open to his exit for the right price as they look to balance the books and squad following another big summer of spending.

During the 2025/26 season Neto was a key performer in what was a difficult campaign, as the Blues finished 10th. However, former manager Liam Rosenior admitted that he felt the 26-year-old was a “world-class winger”, who would be key to anything Chelsea were trying to build for the future.

“Pedro Neto brings us so many different qualities that we need,” Rosenior said.

“He’s going to be really, really important for us for where I think we can get to and what we can achieve for the rest of the season.”

Mexico have released a fresh statement confirming their stance in regard to under-fire FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.

Infantino has come under fire in the aftermath of the World Cup for his plans to sell off stakes in FIFA’s major cup competitions to private investors.

Even though he scrapped those plans, many nations have announced in recent days that they have lost support for the 56-year-old and now want to see him replaced.

Despite growing opposition, Infantino still has the backing of FIFA, and it appears he will remain in his position. A statement from FIFA earlier this week read:

“The FIFA Secretary General and members of the FIFA Management Board in attendance reaffirmed their full support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, as the only official elected by the 211 FIFA Member Associations. In turn, the FIFA President reiterated his full support for the FIFA Secretary General and the FIFA Administration for their necessary and outstanding work in the delivery of his vision.

“In this regard, FIFA’s top management is fully confident that the outcomes of today’s meeting will strengthen FIFA’s governance, help restore confidence in the organisation and enable us to prepare for the major events and challenges ahead in a united and transparent manner while continuing our mission to develop the game around the world.”

Mexico FA Reacts to FIFA’s Statement

In FIFA’s statement, they also said they would ‘no longer tolerate any attacks on its integrity, good governance and due process’ and ‘will take all necessary measures to protect and safeguard its name and reputation.’

Mexico have now released a statement of their own backing those calls and reaffirming their support for the Swiss. Their statement read:

“The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) is convinced that football is the fundamental value and that its best protection lies in institutional integrity and respect for the governance and processes that safeguard it.

“The FMF supports President Infantino’s leadership in continuing to promote the development of football through stronger institutional governance.”

Mexico’s statement hasn’t gone down very well at all, especially with the country’s football fans.

One fan said: ‘I have no hope for football in my country, and I’ve felt like that for most of my life. These guys are the main reason why’, while another stated: ‘Pathetic. These clowns have no shame’.

A third commented: ‘The Mexican FA is a joke. Losers’, while a fourth stated: ‘As a Mexican, I am ashamed of my country’s Football Federation’.

A fifth wrote: ‘Leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.’

Mexico’s statement came shortly before Argentina also threw their support behind Infantino.
