Williams Prepares to Offer Carlos Sainz ‘Ferrari-Level’ Salary
A silly season in the Formula One driver market could well be on its way, with several drivers weighing up their futures in the sport.
Several drivers, including Liam Lawson, Fernando Alonso, and Franco Colapinto, are out of contract at the end of the year, which could trigger mass changes. Even top drivers in underperforming teams could be looking elsewhere; the speculation over Max Verstappen‘s future has certainly been interesting.
However, as the summer break continues, and we edge closer to the return of F1, could we see a twist in the driver market?
Williams‘ lack of performance this season is not only frustrating, but also seems to be incredibly disappointing after the expectations coming into the season.
Many thought they would continue this upward trajectory and have another strong campaign. Formula One writer Lawrence Barretto even predicted them to pick up their first win since 2012. This has, of course, turned out to be far from reality, as the team currently reside ninth in the Constructors’ Championship.
There has been a clear regression, with the team missing pre-season testing in Barcelona and creating an overweight car. The mistakes have been costly, and have left them on the back foot. Too many times already this season it has been a battle to get out of Q1; a sad indictment of the predicament they find themselves in.
Even off the track they are embroiled in other difficult situations. The Guardian’s article about the confusing mystery over who owns the team exposed some of the issues, with allegations of sexism, racism, and expenses fiddling all prominent. Furthermore, the contract situation with their drivers could also be problematic, though, they are looking to solve it with one major move.
Carlos Sainz is free to leave Williams at the end of this year, though, there is an option to extend until either 2027 or 2028. The 31-year-old holds an interest in other projects like Alpine and Aston Martin, but this, of course, hinges on which direction these teams decide to go.
Williams are desperate to keep the four-time race winner, with Autosprint reporting that they are preparing a substantial offer. A reported €30 million (£25.7m) contract extension has been put on the table; a significant increase to his current deal of £9.8m a season.
Not only is it almost double his current salary, but it also would put him on more money than some of the sport’s most notable names. Fernando Alonso and George Russell would be lower, while the salary would be equal to that of Charles Leclerc.
It seems like a major risk for a team on the decline, but someone of Sainz’s quality could easily drag them out of the mess. His two podium finishes in a midfield car during the 2025 season really highlighted how he can help a team punch above their weight.
While this may not be possible currently, in the near future, could Sainz bring Williams back into a consistent point-scoring position?

15 Funniest Forfeit Ideas for Fantasy Premier League (Ranked)
Every year, Fantasy Premier League captivates the world. It has over 10 million players, all of whom are desperate to claim the bragging rights over their friends. The rules in the game are relatively simple to understand; you gain points if the players in your team score in real life, whilst also accumulating points for assists, clean sheets, penalty saves and everything else in between.
It’s a highly tactical game as you analyse when is the best time to bring one of the world’s best players into your team of 15, although only 11 can play at one time. With a free transfer each week, people spend hours thinking about what they will do — and it’s all done in an attempt to avoid losing to their closest friends. Thousands of ‘mini-leagues’ are set up around the world, and friends typically agree that the person who comes last should complete a forfeit.
Due to this, we have come up with the nine funniest forfeits for fantasy players to consider. With the 2026/27 season quickly approaching, it’s now up to you and your friends to decide what the forfeit should be for the person who comes last. From horrifying haircuts to expensive bills, every possible idea has the potential to create life-long and entertaining memories.
It’s important to remember we’re not suggesting anything extreme — and definitely not anything risky; it’s purely ideas which could create lifelong and entertaining memories for you and your friends, even if the forfeit might be mentally painful at first.
15
Host an FPL night
We’re starting the list lightly with something that will get everyone involved. There’s a major break between the end of the last season and the new campaign, but you can fill that by organising an FPL night. During this, you can discuss plans for the new season and share any bold predictions you have.
It’s an opportunity to maybe embarrass yourself ahead of the upcoming campaign, but the disclaimer is that the person who finishes bottom has to host and pay for all of it. The bill could quickly add up in the modern day where absolutely everything seems to be expensive. Maybe the players who finished in the bottom three could also help out, so no one is put under major financial stress.
14
Complete an extreme fitness challenge
Moving on, making the FPL loser complete an extreme fitness challenge feels like an acceptable forfeit during the summer. We’re not suggesting that they run the length of Africa like the Hardest Geezer, and you don’t even have to do a marathon, but a physical punishment coupled with a sense of embarrassment might work perfectly. It could be a 5k walk through the middle of London in fancy dress, or they have to hold a sign stating ‘FPL Loser’ whilst they do it. The options are endless. Just make sure you don’t put your friend in serious physical distress.
13
Pay for the whole bill at a group dinner
Similar to the idea behind hosting an FPL night, making the loser pay for the whole bill at a group dinner feels like another possible, although very expensive, forfeit. Lots of people like to mark the end of the season with a meal or drinks, especially if your favourite club has just won one of the hardest competitions in the world.
That can only be made better if you don’t have to pay for it as well. If you’re in a big mini-league and don’t want the loser to be forced to remortgage his house to cover the cost, you can easily spread it out between people in your imaginary relegation zone — and maybe don’t order the most expensive item on the menu.
12
Perform at an open mic comedy
There’s mostly a sense of embarrassment with all of these options — and partaking in an open-microphone comedy club would epitomise that in a nutshell. Football fans always think they are the funniest people in the world, but most of the time, that’s not the case — and seeing one of your best mates attempt to perform at an event like this would be the perfect punishment for coming bottom.
If they were to do it, the unlucky manager would take to the stage, armed with a microphone and a mix of nerves and excitement. The audience would be a mix of league members and comedy enthusiasts, and they would likely all be unimpressed by a selection of uncreative and disappointing jokes. It would be one of the most frightening experiences around for the loser if he wasn’t comfortable, so it depends on how harsh you want to be with them.
11
Wear a Rival Jersey
Football fans are some of the most loyal people around. In their day-to-day life, Tottenham fans will religiously debate who is the best player in the club’s history, whilst Arsenal fans will often passionately argue that Mikel Arteta deserves a mention as one of the greatest Premier League managers of all time. You get the idea of it; they’re biased — and it only highlights how much they love their club. Therefore, the idea of a Tottenham fan walking around in an Arsenal shirt, or vice versa, is frightening.
People would spend hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds to avoid doing it, but that might not be an option if they finish bottom of the league. This idea would see them spend a full day in their rival’s home shirt, spending it doing activities in public with everyone. There’s a good chance they will be haunted for life, but that’s the brutality of finishing bottom of the FPL.
10
Forced to eat the world’s hottest chilli
The person who finishes bottom of the FPL mini-league clearly can’t handle the heat of the competition. Well, hopefully, they can handle spicy food instead. One of the most brutal yet entertaining options is to make the loser eat the world’s hottest chilli, commonly known as the Carolina Reaper.
It’s meant to be a horrible experience as it burns the back of your tongue, yet it is more than doable with a pint of milk and ice cream to help it go down. For added interest, you could have a sliding scale of Scoville units for the other worst-ranked finishers. The lower you finish, the hotter the chilli you eat at the end of the season.
9
Make a music video
In a similar idea to the comedy club, making the loser perform a music video in public would top off their embarrassment. The winner of the league gets to select any music video, so if they want to go for a classic 1970s hit, they can, and the loser must recreate to the best of their ability.
We’re not suggesting a five-star performance full of pyrotechnics, simply an embarrassing video which can then be used on social media forever. FA Cup finalists used to perform music videos before the match, and considering it’s the oldest competition in the world, you can channel that thought process and become a global superstar.
8
Get a woeful tattoo
When all the other options on this list are really only temporary, getting a tattoo goes above and beyond. Maybe this is the most extreme option unless you get a temporary one, of course, but there’s no doubt it would be memorable. To make it a more thoughtful experience, the loser can choose where it goes and the size, but what’s written is dependent on the winner. It could be their rival’s badge or a romantic love letter to that team; the options are endless. Everyone else in the league should also pay for the tattoo, so the misery is not compounded even more.
7
Get a terrible haircut
Finally, when you think of some of the greatest Brazilian players of all time, R9 Ronaldo also springs to mind. He had one of the worst haircuts of all time at the 2002 World Cup, which saw only the front of his head covered. He’s not the only one though, with Radja Nainggolan also world-famous for his iconic mohawk.
Due to this, the loser of the FPL league could be made to get an iconic, and maybe even horrible, haircut. The winner of the league gets to decide what it is, but they must pay for it. There’s no doubt it could end friendships, but hair can quickly grow back, so they would only have the hairstyle for a handful of weeks.
6
Season Review Press Conference
A great way of reflecting on a woeful fantasy campaign is to force your lowest-scoring player to address this with a recorded press conference. But this forfeit is all about the details.
The loser should be in a full suit, and made to sweat under the hostile questions of their fellow FPL competitors, who will pose as aggressive journalists. The loser must remain in character, offering comical tactical excuses for their shortcomings and rounding off the embarrassing season with a pre-prepared statement apologising to their players, fans, and family members for their incompetence. The video will be uploaded to YouTube and shared across all social media channels for maximum exposure.

What is Donald Trump’s Golf Handicap?
Golf has long been one of Donald Trump’s defining passions, and the question of exactly how good he is has become a debate all of its own.
Between an eye-catching official handicap, a string of rounds alongside major champions, and a book dedicated to disputing his scorecards, Trump’s game generates almost as much scrutiny as his politics.
Here is a straight look at the numbers, the eyewitnesses, and the courses behind the reputation.
Donald Trump Golf Handicap
On the Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN), the USGA-administered system, Trump’s official handicap is listed as 2.8. If true, that figure would make him the lowest-handicapped president in US history — a level that implies he regularly shoots in the 70s or low 80s.
Trump has often gone further himself, making claims of winning dozens of club championships and suggesting his real standard is close to scratch. However, that number is a widely contested statistic.
Skeptics point to his age, the course ratings of the venues he plays, and the fact that relatively few scores have been posted to his GHIN record in recent years. The most prominent challenge came from sportswriter Rick Reilly, whose 2019 book ‘Commander in Cheat‘ documented numerous eyewitness accounts of Trump allegedly bending the rules — from generous ‘gimmes’ to balls mysteriously reappearing in better positions.
Reilly’s central argument, revealed in an interview with The Guardian, is that Trump treats the scorecard as a branding exercise rather than a strict record. Not everyone dismisses the 2.8, though. Golf coach Paul Elvin, founder of The London Golf Performance Academy, told the Independent that from the appropriate tees he believes Trump genuinely can play to that mark or better, singling out his technique as he praised Trump’s rotation and power through impact.
The truth likely sits somewhere between the official figure and the skepticism: a genuinely capable club golfer whose precise number is impossible to verify independently.
Notable Golfers Donald Trump Has Played With
Regardless of the myths or truth surrounding his handicap, Trump has shared a course with a remarkable roster of elite players, and their eyewitness verdicts are among the better evidence of his standard. Since taking office for the first time, he has teed off with several past and present world number ones.
Rory McIlroy played a full 18 holes with Trump at his West Palm Beach course in February 2017 and offered one of the most-quoted assessments, saying Trump shot around 80 and was a decent player for a man in his 70s. McIlroy — who rode around the course with Trump that day — later distanced himself from any political fallout, but never disputed that Trump moved the ball well.
Other notable names include Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson in a memorable post-Thanksgiving round in Florida, with South Africa’s Ernie Els, and famously alongside Jack Nicklaus and Woods at his Jupiter course in 2019.
More recently, the football world took notice when England captain Harry Kane accepted an invitation to play with Trump in Palm Beach. Kane, a keen golfer himself, called it a surreal experience and was complimentary about the president’s game.
Donald Trump Golf Courses
Trump’s connection to golf is incredibly powerful, as one would expect, as he has assembled one of the most extensive private golf portfolios in the world through the Trump Organization.
By the company’s own count, 18 courses are spread across three continents, taking in the United States, Scotland, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, with further developments planned in Asia.
The collection includes some genuinely breathtaking venues. For example, Turnberry in Scotland, bought in 2014, is a four-time Open Championship host, while the Aberdeen links opened a celebrated second course in 2025.
In the United States, Doral’s ‘Blue Monster’ is a former PGA Tour and LIV Golf venue, and Bedminster in New Jersey has staged the US Women’s Open and LIV events. The table below gives an overview of some of the best-known properties.

Chelsea Make Decision on Selling Mykhailo Mudryk
Chelsea will not entertain the permanent sale of Mykhailo Mudryk this summer, GIVEMESPORT understands. The Blues will only consider a loan, and keeping the Ukrainian winger as part of the first-team squad has also not been entirely ruled out.
It is looking more likely Mudryk departs on a loan, though, due to a desire to get the 25-year-old regular minutes following 20 months out with a doping ban.
Mudryk tested positive for the banned substance meldonium while on international duty in November 2024, but this summer he agreed a settlement with the FA. Had Mudryk been tested today, new protocols for substance thresholds would have resulted in no Anti-Doping Rules Violation (ADRV).
Mudryk has already returned to training with the Chelsea first team
As a result, Mudryk agreed to accept his ADVR and 20-month ban, since the new testing rules can’t be applied retroactively, while the FA decided to allow him to return to football immediately.
Mudryk, who has not played since November 2024, featured for the first time since returning to the Blues set-up in a pre-season friendly against Juventus in Hong Kong.
The €100million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk is now hoping for clarity on his future before the new Premier League season begins.
Several Premier League and European clubs have made inquiries, including Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg. Coventry City have also been credited with an interest, with manager Frank Lampard having worked with the Ukrainian briefly when he was caretaker manager at Stamford Bridge in 2023.
Mudryk continued to train away from Cobham during his ban in order to maintain his fitness levels and is now working on both reintegration and match sharpness.
Xabi Alonso speaks out on Mudryk’s future
Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso had said last week that Mudryk’s future was still under discussion. “No decision has been made,” said the new Chelsea boss. “Everything has happened so quick, so the main thing is thinking about the person, to feel that he was back in the group dynamic, part of a team, and we need to assess. But for sure, he’s a special player. It’s a special case with him, so we need to be sensitive.”
Mudryk’s Chelsea contract runs until 2031, while an amendment to his contract was confirmed in a list of FA transactions in April last year.
