Tottenham Hotspur will name their 25-man squad for the Premier League after the transfer window closes on September 1 and one key man may be left off the list.

All Premier League clubs are allowed to use whichever players they want in their squad for the first few weeks of the season, with clubs not expected to name their final 25-man squad until after the transfer window closes – giving them the ability to add new signings if they wish.

But there are certain rules that every club has to abide by when naming their squads for the campaign ahead.

The rules when naming a 25-man squad:

• Every squad must have no more than 17 players deemed as non-homegrown in it.
• Every squad should therefore have eight homegrown players in it. For every homegrown player a team does not have, the squad size depreciates by one.
• A homegrown player is someone who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
• All U21 players can be left off the squad list and can be used at any time during the season. For the 2026/27 Premier League season, U21 players will have been born on or after January 1, 2005.

With little more than a week until the new Premier League season gets under way, there is still plenty of work to be done when it comes to incoming and outgoing transfers across the board.

And that is no more apparent than at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have already made six new signings and allowed eight players to leave.

Tottenham may have let more players leave than they have signed currently, but at the time of writing, heading into the 2026/27 campaign, they have 28 senior players on the books, with 20 classed as non homegrown and eight homegrown.

Non-homegrown: Guglielmo Vicario, Antonin Kinsky, Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson, Pedro Porro, Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Kota Takai, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison. Homegrown: Brandon Austin, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Djed Spence, Conor Gallagher, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Dane Scarlett.

As it stands, three of those players would miss out on a place in De Zerbi’s Premier League squad.

That may not be too difficult to work out, with Vicario, Romero and Spence all linked with exits from the club this summer and Takai likely to go out on loan.

Those four exits would open up one space in the squad for the season, although De Zerbi has admitted that there are likely to be “two or three” more signings coming into the club. Scarlett could also depart the club this summer, but if three new signings arrive, another player would have to be left off the final squad list for the first half of the campaign.

Clubs are permitted to make changes to their squad halfway through the season, to incorporate new signings in the January transfer window, and as a result £52million signing Xavi Simons could be a major omission from the Premier League squad when it is announced a the beginning of September.

Simons suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in just De Zerbi’s third game in charge in 2025/26. Such an injury will see him miss nine months of action, with his expected return to action being the end of January.

With the Dutchman unlikely to play any part during the first five months of the season, it would make sense to leave him off the squad list to allow any other new signings to take up a spot in the squad instead.

Tottenham remain in talks with Manchester City over a move to sign Brazilian Savinho, while De Zerbi’s comments about a “bomba” signing were about someone completely different.

Jordan Henderson’s move to Chelsea took many by surprise this summer, with the veteran midfielder joining on a free transfer from Brentford.

Xabi Alonso has decided to inject some experience into his squad at Stamford Bridge, which was the youngest in the Premier League last season. Henderson joined his ex-England teammate Danny Welbeck in bringing hundreds of appearances’ worth of experience to west London.

It’s his second spell at one of the ‘Big Six’ clubs in the English top-flight, having previously spent 12 years at Liverpool. He even captained the Reds to the 2019-20 title and the Champions League in 2019.

Henderson moved to Anfield in 2011 when Kenny Dalglish was in charge at Liverpool. His initial salary isn’t documented, but every contract he signed from 2013 onwards is. Starting from the 2013-14 season, the midfielder was taking home £60,000 each week, according to Capology.

That was increased to £80,000 in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons after taking over as club captain from Steven Gerrard. Under Jurgen Klopp, arguably the best spell of his career, Henderson earned £100,000 per week from 2017 to 2021.

He then signed a new deal worth £200,000 weekly. That turned out to be the final contract he signed at the club, as he moved to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023.

Henderson’s Salary at Chelsea Emerges

Now 36 years old, Henderson has put pen to paper at Chelsea, adding much-needed experience, as he did for England at the 2026 World Cup. The ex-Liverpool captain has been handed a two-year deal, taking him beyond his 38th birthday.

While it’s unlikely Henderson will play too many minutes ahead of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia, the veteran is still taking home £75,000 every week (per SalaryLeaks). That’s not far off the amount he made in the seasons when he lifted the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

It means he’s earning more than Welbeck, Estevao and Robert Sanchez. However, his new salary is dwarfed by the likes of Caicedo, Fernandez and Reece James.

5. Pedro Neto – £160,000 p/w

Pedro Neto has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, but is currently one of the highest-earning players at Stamford Bridge. After joining from Wolves in 2024, the Portugal international was handed a £160,000-per-week deal.

4. Enzo Fernandez – £180,000 p/w

Like Neto, Enzo Fernandez’s future in west London is up in the air. He has been touted for a reunion with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City. If the Argentine midfielder is sold, Henderson’s chances of playing increase, and Chelsea shift £180,000 off the weekly wage bill.

3. Moises Caicedo – £200,000 p/w

Caicedo earns £20,000 more than his midfield partner. He is the joint-highest earner at Chelsea, along with two others on £200,000 p/w.

2. Wesley Fofana – £200,000 p/w

Wesley Fofana has had plenty of injury struggles ever since he arrived from Leicester City. The central defender was highly sought-after when playing for the Foxes, which is why Chelsea paid him £200,000-per-week.

1. Reece James – £200,000 p/w

The third man earning £200,000 weekly is club captain Reece James. Like Fofana, the right-back hasn’t been on the pitch as often as he’d have liked in recent years, but it’s not a surprise he’s earning big money with his boyhood club.

Kevin Owens has revealed a spot that has now been banned in all WWE matches.

During his recent layoff due to neck injuries, Owens joined LFG (Legends and Future Greats) as a coach. He helped pair Harlem Lewis and Mike Derudder for their tag team bout against Harley Riggins and Jax Presley, coached by the legendary Booker T.

Riggins and Presley got the win, but there was huge controversy after the match when Riggins spat at Lewis as the latter was walking backstage. Lewis then jumped on the apron and landed a legit blow on Riggins’ face before being shoved off the apron himself.

Backstage, it was revealed to Owens that Lewis had been spat at, and the Prizefighter was shocked, as neither he nor Booker T saw it whilst watching the match. This is a spot that Riggins then wanted to repeat when the two had a match-up inside the squared circle, placing it just before Lewis would fire up and start the comeback.

However, the former Universal Champion would quickly shut this idea down, revealing that Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H‘ Levesque and other executives had banned the practice.

“Here’s the tricky part about that. We’re not allowed to spit on each other. That’s one of the things on TV—you can’t do it; they don’t want that.”

The veteran would go on to suggest that the rookies should play this match by focusing on how disrespected Lewis felt: “…you felt disrespected, and now you’re going to make him respect you. It’s a very easy story to tell too.”

Owens made a shocking return at SummerSlam this year, being inserted into a singles match between Finn Balor and Sami Zayn alongside the Ring General Gunther. The winner would get an opportunity to face WWE Champion CM Punk for the title.
