Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The declaration of the result was made by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, who is also the Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Sunday morning.

 Adeleke won the election after polling 511,067  votes against his opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 444,815 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, scored 17,180 votes coming third on the ballot.

With this victory, Ademola Adeleke wins the mandate of the Osun electorates for a second term.

DAILY POST reports that 15 political parties contested in the election, with the three top contenders in the Accord, APC and the ADC.

Following the conclusion of voting and collation of results across polling units in the Saturday governorship election held in Osun State, attention has shifted to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for collation and announcement of results.

Vanguard gathered that returning officers from six local government council areas have arrived at INEC office with collated results from their local government and are also seated at the collation centre.

The exercise, according INEC Public Relations Officer in the State, Musa Olurode, will commence any moment as results from more local government trickles in.

The uploading of results from the Osun State governorship election to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal, IReV, has resumed after a prolonged pause earlier.

The development comes after the number of results uploaded to the portal remained unchanged at 3,292 out of the 3,763 polling units for almost two hours, raising concerns among stakeholders and prompting questions over the delay.

As of 11:42 p.m., the number of polling-unit results uploaded had risen to 3,482, representing 92.53 per cent of the total 3,763 expected results statewide.

This leaves 281 polling-unit results yet to be uploaded to the portal.

The renewed uploads come as collation of results continues across the state, with attention focused on the remaining polling-unit results and their eventual integration into the ongoing local government and state-level collation process.

Earlier, the apparent halt in uploading had generated concern, particularly after INEC had reached the 3,292-result mark. The development also drew public attention, with singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, questioning the commission over the delay.

The IReV platform is designed to provide public access to polling-unit results uploaded electronically by INEC, thereby allowing voters, political parties, observers and other stakeholders to monitor the results as the collation process progresses.

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has questioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the delay in uploading results of the ongoing Osun State governorship election on its Result Viewing Portal, IReV.

Davido, who has been closely monitoring the election process, raised the concern in a post on his X account on Saturday as collation of results continued across the state.

The singer wrote: “INEC IREV uploads have been stuck for almost 2 hours now. 3292 out of 3763 results submitted and then silence. This is not acceptable!

“Why has the uploading stopped? @inecnigeria”

His comment came after INEC had uploaded 3,292 out of the 3,763 expected polling-unit results, representing 87.48 per cent of the results on the IReV platform.

Gunmen invade ward 4 collation centre in Osogbo, disrupt exercise

As collation of result continues in the Osun State governorship election, hooded gunmen have invaded a collation centre in Osogbo local government, disrupting the exercise.

The collation centre in Ataoja D covers many Polling units of ward 4 in the state capital and was invaded around 9:45pm.

The gunmen were shooting sporadically into the air to scare officials away and possibly disrupted the exercise.

The shooting was intense for about five minutes before the situation was brought under control.

Osun Poll: Oyebamiji urges bigilance from supporters as collation begins

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has urged his supporters to remain calm, vigilant and resolute as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins the collation of results.

Oyebamiji, in a statement on his Facebook page following the conclusion of voting across the state, expressed confidence in the collective efforts of his supporters, while commending the people of Osun State for turning out to exercise their civic responsibility.

He said, “We have come a very long way, and today, I am deeply encouraged that our collective efforts are yielding results.

“I sincerely thank the good people of Osun State for coming out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility and make their voices heard through the ballot.”

The APC candidate also commended the security agencies and INEC for their conduct during the election, saying they demonstrated commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“I also commend the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their commitment to their duties and for conducting themselves with professionalism and integrity,” he added.

As the collation of results gets underway, Oyebamiji called on his supporters to remain peaceful and vigilant, stressing the need to protect the integrity of votes cast by the electorate.

“As the collation of results begins, I urge all our supporters and the good people of Osun to remain calm, vigilant and resolute.

“Let us protect the sanctity of the votes cast by our people. Do not allow anyone, under any guise or through any means, to subvert the will of the people or undermine the mandate they have freely chosen to give us in today’s election,” he said.

Oyebamiji further urged his supporters not to be provoked, insisting that the outcome of the election must reflect the choice of the electorate.

“We have come too far to allow our collective efforts to be compromised. Let us remain peaceful, watchful and confident as we await the final outcome.

“May the will of the people prevail,” he said.

Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has urged President Bola Tinubu to caution security agencies deployed for the governorship election as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues the collation of results.

Adeleke made the appeal in a statement posted on his X account, expressing concern over alleged attempts to disrupt the collation process at various centres across the state.

The governor called on Tinubu to direct the heads of the security agencies to ensure the protection of voters and the integrity of the electoral process.

“Reports of attempts to hijack or disrupt collation centres by desperate and rejected politicians across the state are deeply concerning and unacceptable,” Adeleke said.

He urged the President to reaffirm his commitment to ensuring that the votes cast by Osun residents are counted and reflected in the final outcome of the election.

“I therefore implore you to reiterate the commitment made to the people of Osun State that their votes will count and that the outcome of this election will reflect their genuine choice,” the statement read in part.

Meanwhile, INEC has uploaded 81% of the results from Osun State governorship election to its Result Viewing, IReV, portal.

As of the time of filing this report, results from 3,065 out of 3,763 polling units in the state had been uploaded, representing 81.45% of the total results expected.

‘I’ve been voting since Awolowo, don’t give up on elections’ – 97-yr-old urges Nigerians

A 97-year-old great grandfather, Isaac Adeniran Adesanmi, has said he would always vote during any election period because it’s his civic right.

The elder statesman is one of the elderly who joined electorate at NUD Primary School, Collation Centre, Unit 1, Ward 4, Ilase Ijesa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State to cast their votes.

Adesanmi was brought to the polling unit by his relations to exercise his franchise.

However, Pa Adesanmi could not be accredited on time as the BVAs could not capture his face and finger.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, urged him to be patient and promised to try it again.

In an interview, Pa Adesanmi, whose number on the voters list is 116, said he had not stopped voting since he started during the days of late Obafemi Awolowo.

“I am 97 year old and I started voting during the time of Awolowo. I always vote anytime election comes up. I have been voting in Kaduna before I came back home,” he said.

On his advice for the youths and other Nigerians, he said: “I will advise youths to vote because if they do not, the kind of leaders they want will not be there.

“My message for Nigerians is to continue to vote at all cost and vote for the people they like.”

Asked to advise potential winner after the voting exercise, the nonagenarian said: “I want them to do as they promise.”

‘Your votes matters’ – 80-year-old traditional chief encourages young voters

Age was no barrier for Chief Ramon Busari, the Oluode of Ejigbo, as he joined other voters at Unit 04, Ward 1 to cast his ballot in Saturday’s Osun governorship election.

The 80-year-old traditional chief was seen patiently waiting on the queue, saying voting remains both a right and a responsibility.

“I still feel obliged to help choose leaders for our state,” he said.

Chief Busari used the opportunity to charge young people to come out and vote.

“Your votes matter. Do not stay away from the polls. Participate peacefully and decide the future you want,” he urged.

According to him abstaining from elections cedes power to others, and encouraged young voters to make their voices count.

Imole Council accuses Army, Police of intimidation, demands neutrality

The Imole Campaign Council has accused the Nigerian Army and other security agencies of partisanship and intimidation in Osun State, warning that the military must not be used as “pawns in the hands of desperate power-seeking politicians”.

In a statement on Saturday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council alleged that soldiers stormed the homes of Accord Party leaders across the state, especially in Osun East Senatorial District, and arrested key party members on election day.

According to the council, “Over 15 trucks of soldiers” raided residences last night and detained innocent individuals.”

The statement alleged that the operation was led by ASP Wemimo, a policeman attached to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, and was accompanied by APC chieftain, Sanya Omirin, who represents Atakunmosa East/Atakunmosa West/Ilesa East/Ilesa West Federal Constituency.
