Viktor Gyokeres Costs Arsenal Fan Huge Sum After £1000 Bet

Published

on

Viktor Gyokeres unknowingly cost an Arsenal supporter a massive sum of money during the Gunners’ Champions League victory over Kairat Almaty.

The Kazakhstan Premier League side travelled all the way to north London to face a team that had already secured top spot in the League Phase of Europe’s elite competition. As expected, it was a fairly routine evening for Mikel Arteta’s men, who ran out 3-2 winners.

Gyokeres opened the scoring with an emphatic finish after being played through by Kai Havertz. The German then regained the Gunners’ lead after Jorginho had pulled the visitors level through a penalty. Gabriel Martinelli put the finishing touch on a good evening for the men in red and white.

In the newly-formatted Champions League, all matches are played at the exact same time for the final matchday. With all 36 teams in action at once, it led to a string of ambitious and creative bets.

One punter posted their huge bet the night before the European fixtures. The X user posted a screenshot of their stake, with the caption: “I’ve dumped £1,000 on this, 0 goals in 2:59 mins, thank me later.”

That came agonisingly close to being a winning bet, as only two goals were scored before the clock hit three minutes in every match. Athletic Club netted in the third minute, but Gyokeres’ early strike came before two minutes had played out.

To make matters worse, the same account posted their reaction, asking why the Swede didn’t just put his effort wide, as he had done against Manchester United at the weekend. They even claimed to be an Arsenal fan, rubbing salt into the wounds further as the punter lost out on £2,625.

Gyokeres Finding His Feet in Europe, But Not England

Goals have been hard to come by on many occasions for Arsenal since his switch from Sporting CP in the summer. The 27-year-old has found the back of the net five times in the Premier League and looks to have lost his place in the starting XI.

However, the talisman has almost matched that figure in the Champions League. His effort against Kairat at the Emirates was the fourth time he’s struck on the continental stage. Two of his previous goals came against Atletico Madrid, and he added another against Inter Milan.

Liverpool Join Race to Sign Bradley Barcola

Liverpool announced Andoni Iraola as their new manager on Thursday night, and now the club look like they are ready to ambitiously back the Spaniard in the summer transfer market.

Liverpool have handed the former Bournemouth boss a two-year contract, with the 43-year-old tasked with making an improvement on a disappointing 2025-26 season.

The Reds ended the Premier League season in fifth position and one place above Iraola’s Cherries, but it was enough to once again qualify for the Champions League.

Most disappointing, along with the fact they conceded the most goals they ever have in a Premier League season, was that they ended the campaign 25 points adrift of champions Arsenal as they looked to defend their title, after a major summer spend in the transfer market.

There might be another significant investment coming too, especially with the summer exits of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate already confirmed.

Replacing the former is going to be one of the main priorities for Liverpool chiefs this summer, with strong links with RB Leipzig Yan Diomande in recent weeks.

The Ivory Coast international isn’t the only winger the Reds are looking at though.

Athletic journalist David Ornstein confirmed on Thursday that Liverpool have made contact with Leipzig as their pursuit of Diomande steps up ahead of the World Cup kicking off on June 11.

The Reds are said to be in the strongest position on player side, with Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain also keen on the exciting 19-year-old.

According to Fabrizio Romano, also posting on X on Thursday, Liverpool are also part of a three-team battle to sign PSG attacker Bradley Barcola.

The Italian journalist says that ‘movements are expected’ around the Frenchman, with Arsenal and another unnamed club also keen on the 23-year-old.

Barcola Is Much Better Than Diomande

Diomande is clearly a huge talent with a massive future ahead of him, after starring for Leipzig this term.

The teenager contributed 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, but the fact is that he has only made 46 senior appearances in his short career to date.

Meanwhile, Barcola is a two-time Champions League winner and three-time Ligue 1 winner with PSG, with the left-sided player making 200 senior appearances in his career.

More than 150 of those have come with the Ligue 1 champions, with 39 goals and 37 assists in that time.

Como first-team scout Ben Mattinson has certainly been full of praise for the France international, describing him as being ‘one of the best wingers in the world’.

Leipzig are ready to demand £112m for their teenage sensation, so it will be interesting to see if the Reds have a chance of landing a more established player in Barcola for a lower fee.

Update Emerges on Man Utd Signing Newcastle Defender Lewis Hall

Published

An update has now emerged on Manchester United’s interest in Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall from journalist Luke Edwards.

Hall has emerged as one of the most exciting young left-backs in Europe over the last couple of years, but he struggled to nail down a starting place in Eddie Howe’s side towards the end of last season.

GIVEMESPORT sources recently confirmed that Hall is considering his future with the Magpies after being left devastated by his omission from the England World Cup squad.

It’s understood that Manchester United are one of the sides showing an interest in signing Hall as he aims to impress Thomas Tuchel for the future.

Hall was playing behind Dan Burn for Newcastle in the final weeks of the season, and Tuchel ended up calling up the latter for the World Cup.

Update: Man Utd Interest in Lewis Hall

Reliable journalist Edwards has provided an update on Manchester United’s reported interest in Newcastle defender Hall.

Edwards claims that Newcastle have not had any contact from the Red Devils and have not been informed that the player wants to leave.

As it stands, Manchester United have clearly not held club-to-club talks, which is no surprise as they undoubtedly have other priorities.

There’s no doubt Hall will be frustrated with his situation at the moment, in terms of club and country. He’ll at least be hoping for a guaranteed start next season.

Newcastle Could Struggle to Keep Hall

Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall celebrating

Newcastle might find it difficult to keep Hall at the club heading into the summer transfer window, especially if a club like Manchester United are in the race.

The Magpies endured a difficult 2025-2026 season, meaning they won’t be playing European football next campaign.

The Red Devils will be able to offer Hall Champions League football and a club heading in the right direction under Michael Carrick.

Newcastle took a huge step back last season, and it’s no surprise that Hall is disappointed with his situation after failing to make the England squad.

At one point, it looked like Hall would be a guarantee to start at left back for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Tottenham in Talks to Sign Free Agent Striker Dusan Vlahovic

Tottenham are preparing for one of their most crucial summer transfer windows in their recent history after being involved in a relegation battle during the 2025-2026 season.

It’s the first window under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, and the hierarchy will likely be looking to back him in the market.

The Italian manager certainly did a good enough job in his first few months in charge to warrant the club backing him.

There’s an argument to suggest that Spurs need reinforcements all over the pitch in the summer, especially as there’s likely to be players that will want to leave the club.

So far this summer, Tottenham are already closing in on the double signing of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, who both look set to arrive on free transfers, GIVEMESPORT understands.

According to a report from TeamTalk, Tottenham are one of the sides to have held talks with the camp of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Serbian forward looks set to leave Juventus this summer when his contract expires, and it’s claimed that he would prefer a move to a European side despite interest from Saudi Arabia.

A host of Premier League clubs have also spoken to Vlahovic’s camp. Many are likely to see him as one of the bargains of the summer due to his free agent status.

An announcement on Wednesday confirmed that Vlahovic would not be signing a new contract at Juve, and he’s now free to join another club this summer.

Vlahovic’s Wage Could be an Issue

Although Vlahovic is going to be available on a free transfer during the summer transfer window, Tottenham are still likely to have to pay him a significant wage package.

Reports have claimed that Vlahovic is demanding in the region of £266,000 a week, which is certainly a lot for a club like Tottenham.

Vlahovic, described as being one of the best strikers in the world by teammate Khephren Thuram, hasn’t been at his best in the last few years.

There’s no doubt Vlahovic would improve Tottenham’s striker options, but they have to weigh up whether it makes sense from a financial perspective as well as a football one.
