Lagos 2027: Ambode congratulates Hamzat on APC consensus ticket
Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has congratulated the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, following his adoption as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ambode described Hamzat’s emergence as a product of loyalty, consistency, and sustained commitment to the party’s growth and unity over the years.
He noted that Hamzat’s consultations with key stakeholders within the party reflected a deliberate effort to strengthen internal cohesion and advance the collective interests of Lagos State. According to him, the development further underscores confidence in Hamzat’s experience in governance and public administration.
Ambode also reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring his commitment to the President’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“As I congratulate Dr Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr. President,” he said.
He further expressed confidence that the continuation of Tinubu’s leadership would consolidate national development and economic progress, noting that ongoing policies would yield long-term benefits for the country.
The former governor called on members of the APC in Lagos State to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections, urging them to work collectively towards a decisive victory for the party.
He set an ambitious target of at least three million votes for the President in Lagos State and encouraged party faithful to also ensure strong performances for APC candidates across National Assembly and other elective positions.
Ambode further appealed for greater coordination among APC structures in the South-West region to strengthen the party’s electoral fortunes across the zone.
He expressed optimism about the future of both Lagos State and Nigeria, insisting that stronger days lie ahead for the ruling party and the nation at large.

Why Tinubu needs to resign — Atiku’s aide
Media Adviser and spokesperson to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Mr Paul Ibe, has said that President Bola Tinubu should resign over what he described as the government’s failure to address insecurity across the country.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, Ibe argued that the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the security and welfare of its citizens.
According to him, Nigeria is less secure now than it was in 2023, citing figures which he claimed showed that 879 people had been killed, while nearly 300 others remained in captivity.
He described the statistics as alarming and said they reflected the scale of insecurity facing the country.
Ibe further stated that the government’s efforts to tackle the situation had not yielded sufficient results, stressing that the country could not continue with what he termed a “trial and error” approach to governance.
He said: “Let me tell you why President Tinubu needs to resign. The primary responsibility of government is security and welfare. Are we more secure now than we were in 2023? The answer is No.
“According to statistics, 879 people have been killed, and nearly 300 are in captivity. Those statistics are very frightening. That’s a snapshot of the pervasive insecurity that we have.
“The government’s efforts are not good enough. I mean, we can’t continue on this journey of trial and error. The truth of the matter is that Tinubu is incompetent and clueless.”

Bye election: Gov Sule’s aide alleges attack on Gyunka
Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, reportedly escaped an attack by suspected political thugs while travelling to participate in the recently concluded Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election.
The allegation was made by a media aide to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Ango Ngharni, in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to him, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 20, as the former senator was travelling to his hometown of Gbuje to take part in the by-election.
Nggarmi alleged that the attackers, armed with machetes and axes, intercepted Gyunka’s convoy and attempted to assault him.
The governor’s aide, however, stated that the APC stalwart escaped unharmed, although his vehicle was reportedly damaged during the attack.
Ngharni condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation to identify and bring those responsible to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement regarding the alleged attack, while the identities and motives of the assailants remain unknown.

Speaking shortly after receiving the Certificate of Return, the senator-elect expressed gratitude to the electorate for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide quality representation to the people of Nasarawa North at the National Assembly.
He assured constituents that he would work tirelessly to advance their interests, attract development projects and contribute meaningfully to legislative efforts aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
