Police arrest three suspected gang members in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed criminal gang allegedly responsible for terrorising residents of Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, stating that the suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation carried out by operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on May 29, 2026.

According to the statement, the operation was launched following credible intelligence on the activities of the gang, which had been under police surveillance due to its alleged involvement in a series of criminal incidents in the area.

The suspects were identified as Ali Bahago of Danakulu via Kasuwan Daji, Hassan Dan Kure of Kasuwan Daji, and Dahiru Lawali of Gidan Ango.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of an armed criminal syndicate allegedly led by Ali Bahago, who has been linked to several criminal activities within the area,” Abubakar stated.

The police said one member of the gang was neutralised during the operation, while a search of the residence of the alleged gang leader led to the recovery of weapons and other exhibits believed to be connected to the group’s activities.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The command further stated that efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional exhibits.

“The Zamfara State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents and will continue to intensify operations against criminal elements across the state,” the statement added.

Two arrested for allegedly impersonating soldiers years after leaving military school

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men accused of impersonating military personnel and allegedly assaulting a laundry attendant in the Suleja area of the state over a missing mobile phone.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects, identified as Abraham Ashiwel and Michael Okonkwo, both of Bakassi area, Suleja, were arrested after they allegedly stormed a laundry shop in Angwan-Gwari area of Suleja on August 8.

He explained that the suspects assaulted the shop attendant over an alleged missing phone before operatives of ‘B’ Division, Suleja, commenced investigation and arrested them.

During interrogation, Abiodun said the suspects allegedly confessed to impersonating military personnel in the community for years.

The Police command said investigation revealed that both men had attended the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, but were expelled in 2016 and 2019 respectively.

Items recovered from the suspects include a military camouflage trouser, two combat T-shirts, two pairs of desert boots, two identity cards and two jackknives.

The police said the suspects remain in custody for further investigation and would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.

Contractor goes into hiding as 3-storey building collapses in Abia

The contractor handling an ongoing three-storey building in Umuozue area of Osisioma Ngwa LGA, Abia State has reportedly gone into hiding, following the collapse of the house on Thursday morning.

The building which is located at No.7 Chima Otuka Street in Osisioma, collapsed at about 3:am on Thursday, eight hours after site workers had closed for work the previous evening.

The falling house also damaged a car and other property belonging to a tenant living in an adjascent house.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been established by government agencies but some residents of Umuozue community disclosed that Parapet works were completed on the house on Wednesday evening by site workers.

Responding to the development, officials of Osisioma Ngwa town planning office, sealed the site, to allow thorough investigation.

Woman allegedly beheaded in Adamawa hotel

A woman has lost her life after a man who took her to a hotel room in Girei, an urban community near the Adamawa State capital, Yola, allegedly killed her.

The woman, who has yet to be fully identified, was reportedly beheaded by the man. Sources said he had taken her to the hotel in Girei, where they were later heard arguing loudly.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, after which the suspect was apprehended by members of the public. The police were called to take over the case, while the victim’s body was removed from the hotel.

According to a source familiar with the incident, people heard the sound of a fight coming from the room where the suspect had lodged. They forced their way into the room, found the woman lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut to her neck, and apprehended the suspect.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, who was contacted shortly before this report was filed at about 7:30 pm on Friday, confirmed the incident.
