Man driving under influence of drugs kills two soldiers in Delta
Two soldiers attached to the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have lost their lives in a road accident in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the driver involved in the crash is currently under investigation after reportedly testing positive for hard drugs.
A post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama said that military sources disclosed that the incident occurred on May 30 along 74 Road in Oshimili South, prompting an immediate response from troops following reports of the accident.
Earlier findings revealed that the two soldiers were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a vehicle.
The victims were swiftly evacuated to the 63 Brigade Medical Centre for urgent medical attention. However, medical personnel confirmed them dead on arrival.
Following the incident, security operatives arrested the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.
“Sources said the suspect was subjected to drug screening and reportedly tested positive for cannabis and cocaine,” Makama said.
The driver has since been handed over to the 63 Provost Company for further investigation and necessary action.
Furthermore, the bodies of the deceased soldiers have been deposited at the morgue of the Asaba Specialist Hospital pending further arrangements.
“Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident,” Makama added.

Police arrest two suspects, recover firearm, stolen phones in Keffi
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals and recovered a firearm, stolen mobile phones, and dangerous items during an operation in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Shafiu Abdul-Rauf and Usman Abdulmumuni, were arrested following a complaint of theft and unlawful entry reported to the Keffi Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, the incident occurred on May 30, 2026, when a resident of Kofar Hausa in Keffi reported that Shafiu Abdul-Rauf had allegedly trespassed into his room and stolen an Android phone before fleeing the scene.
“Following the report, detectives attached to the division launched an intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of the principal suspect and his alleged accomplice, both residents of the Mayanka area of Keffi,” the statement read.
According to Nansel, a search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of several exhibits, including a locally made pistol loaded with a live cartridge, two sharp cutlasses, a knife, three mobile phones, a bunch of keys, and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
Police authorities said the recovered phones comprised two Tecno Android devices and one Itel mobile phone.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigators work to determine whether they are connected to other criminal offences within and outside the area,” Nansel added.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has commended the officers involved in the operation for their swift response and professionalism.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information.
The police commissioner also noted that community cooperation remains crucial in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in Nasarawa State.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing, while further legal action is expected upon their conclusion,” Nansel concluded.

Troops neutralise suspected terrorist in Kogi, recover weapons
Troops of 12 Brigade operating under Operation MESA have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition during an ambush operation in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a post on X.
Makama stated that the operation was conducted following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected terrorists around Jakura 2 community.
He noted that troops responded to the information and laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist crossing point on the old Obajana–Tajimi Road in the early hours of the operation.
According to him, during the encounter, one suspected terrorist was neutralised while others reportedly fled the scene.
The security expert stressed that items recovered from the operation included one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, three of which were loaded with a total of 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bandolier and a mobile phone.
He described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal and terrorist activities within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
“Troops have continued domination patrols in the area to prevent the movement of criminal elements and enhance security for residents.
“The recovered items are expected to aid further intelligence and investigative efforts,” he said.

Bandits kill Islamic cleric in Kwara community
Suspected bandits have killed a prominent Islamic cleric, Alfa Iliasu, in Ilesha-Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Reports reaching DAILY POST indicated that the attackers stormed the cleric’s residence on Saturday and struck him on the head with a cutlass.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but died before receiving treatment.
Alfa Iliasu was widely known across Baruten and neighbouring communities for his spiritual activities and his acclaimed ability to identify witches, a reputation that brought him considerable public attention over the years.
Sources revealed that three suspects were involved in the attack. One of the suspects was reportedly killed at the scene, while another was arrested and taken into police custody for further investigation.
The third suspect escaped and is currently at large.
Meanwhile, family members, friends, Islamic scholars and sympathizers gathered to pay their last respects as the late cleric was buried at the Ilesha-Baruba Muslim Cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, at the time of this report were unsuccessful.
