Emmanuel Petit Urges Arsenal to Sell 3 Players After Champions League Final

Published

on

Emmanuel Petit has named the three players Mikel Arteta ‘has to show the exit door’ following Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal enjoyed an incredible season as they were crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years.

They also reached the finals of both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League, where they were narrowly beaten on both occasions by Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

However, despite being named by data analysts as the best team in world football right now, the Gunners have plenty of areas where they can improve.

While Arsenal have been praised for their solidity in defence, their potency in attack has left a lot to be desired.

The Gunners drew criticism for their creativity from open-play, with many accusing them of being over-reliant at scoring from set-pieces.

Petit is of the opinion that many of their forwards are not good enough to play for the club anymore. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said:

“I think it’s easy to know what Arsenal are missing, for me it’s wingers. You need to have strong and powerful wingers with technical skills that can make a difference on the wings.”

He then name-dropped three players that Arsenal must sell this summer to make way for new recruits.

“Before bringing new players, they have to show some players the exit door too,” he added. “For me the likes of Martinelli, Jesus. Gyokeres – I don’t know because he just came into the club.

“Trossard I would keep him. Madueke for me isn’t good enough, I’m sorry to say that, but he must do much more than that to improve. But we definitely need wingers and probably one striker with pace, technical skills, great movement. We need to improve up front.”

Arsenal will no doubt splash the cash this summer and one player that they have been linked with is Bournemouth striker, Eli Junior Kroupi.

The Frenchman, just 19 years old, had an outstanding opening season in the Premier League with Bournemouth. He hit the back of the net 13 times, the highest number of goals scored by any teenager in a debut season in Premier League history.

His performances have attracted the attention of many of the world’s biggest clubs, with Arsenal highly interested.

According to BBC Sport, Aston Villa’s Morgan and Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez also feature on their shortlist as they look to bolster their attack this summer.

Rogers and Kroupi are expected to cost in excess of £80m each, while Alvarez is being valued at over £120m.

Celtic have agreed to terminate the contract of one of their players early, despite them having a year left on their deal.

During the 2025-26 season, Martin O’Neill’s side struggled throughout the majority of the campaign, but they turned things around when it mattered in the final weeks of the season.

As a result, we could see them overhaul their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window as they look to avoid leaving it so late next season.

Conor McGregor Shows Off His Current Physique

UFC legend Conor McGregor has revealed new photos of his physique as he prepares for his return to the company after five years away.

The Irishman has not competed since he broke his leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. After five years away after dabbling with boxing, entrepreneurship, and politics, McGregor is set to return at UFC 329 against Max Holloway in a rematch, 13 years after their last bout.

McGregor shared several photos to his social media pages of his physique, highlighting his training regiment in order to be in good condition for his July clash with Holloway.

He captioned the post: “AWESOME WORK. One of the best pure boxers on this island, @craig_kavanagh_26. My bro! A vicious gentleman.”

Based off the photos, it is clear that McGregor is taking his return to MMA seriously, and with just a number of weeks before the clash, the Irishman will understand that if he wants a shot at championship gold, he must overcome Holloway first.

Conor McGregor’s Current Physique

UFC 329: Holloway vs McGregor

McGregor is considered the underdog in the bout. Holloway is younger than the Irishman and has been more active in MMA, so will be confident against the returning veteran. Despite this, if Notorious can find his previous form and keep the fight on its feet, he can use his striking ability to try to pick up a knockout victory.

It was not an easy one for McGregor in his first fight with Holloway 13 years ago. He tore his ACL mid-fight, so was forced to take it to the mat and win by unanimous decision through wrestling.

If all goes well for McGregor this time around, he will be looking to jump to the front of the queue for a shot at the gold. Despite there being other contenders waiting for their title opportunities, McGregor’s star power and legendary status in the organisation might be enough to put him at the front of the line for a title shot.

Conor McGregor vs Max Holloway

Current UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev reacted to McGregor’s return by telling TNT Sports: “It’s good, it’s good. Big name for our sport, but he has a tough opponent. Max Holloway against Conor, I think Max can beat him.”

There is history between McGregor and Makhachev as the latter is close friends and a teammate of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who went to war with Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in 2018, where McGregor submitted in the fourth round to the unbeaten Russian fighter.

If McGregor can overcome Holloway, a blockbuster clash between McGregor and Makhachev would certainly draw eyes to the sport in a clash that is eight years in the making.

AI Predicts Final 2026/27 Championship Table in Full

The EFL Championship is regarded by many to be the best league in world football. That’s because of its unpredictability, it’s almost impossible to know what will happen on a weekly basis.

The 2025/26 Championship season is a good example of that. At the start of the campaign, Leicester City were tipped by many to bounce straight back up to the Premier League. They ended up having a dismal season and suffered relegation to the English third tier.

Hull City, on the other hand, were one of the favourites for relegation to League One. The Tigers defied the odds to finish in a playoff berth, before beating Middlesbrough in the playoff final to book their place in the Premier League.

With the 2026/27 Championship season on the horizon, GiveMeSport have asked GrokAI to predict the final table, and it thinks it knows where all 24 teams will finish.

Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth both narrowly escaped relegation in the 25/26 campaign. They are expected to do the same again in 26/27 as they are tipped to finish 17th and 18th respectively.

Watford follow in 19th, while Bolton Wanderers, who sealed their return to the Championship with a 4-1 victory over Stockport County in the League One playoff final, are expected to survive in their first season back in England’s second tier.

Queens Park Rangers are expected to accumulate just 42 points in 26/27 campaign, but that will be enough for them to survive the drop.

Cardiff City are being predicted to finish in 22nd and go straight back down to England’s third tier, alongside Charlton Athletic and Lincoln City. The latter amassed 103 points in League One in 25/26 as they blew everyone away, but are being tipped to struggle following the loss of manager Michael Skubala to Bristol City.

Millwall players

Millwall came so close to promotion to the Premier League in 25/26. They narrowly missed out on an automatic promotion spot before losing to Hull in the playoffs. They are being predicted to finish 10th in the upcoming campaign, a place behind Norwich City.

Derby County and Stoke City are expected to complete the top half and finish 11th and 12th respectively.

James Morrison led West Bromwich Albion to safety in 25/26, and they are expected to be a lot better in the upcoming campaign. They are being tipped to finish 13th, a place above Skubala’s Bristol City.

AI thinks Vítor Matos’ Swansea City will amass 54 points and finish 15th, a place above perennial mid-table side Preston North End.

The playoffs will be expanded in 26/27, with the top eight now qualifying. Southampton will start the season with -4 points after being found guilty of spying on multiple teams during the 25/26 campaign. Despite that disadvantage, they are expected to finish 8th and qualify for the playoffs.

Sheffield United are being tipped to bounce back from a dismal 25/26 season and finish 7th, behind Wrexham, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

AI thinks the three clubs that have dropped down to the Championship from the Premier League will finish in the top three.

Burnley are expected to amass 82 points and finish third as they just miss out on automatic promotion. AI thinks Wolves and West Ham will return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, with the latter finishing seven points clear of Rob Edwards’ side to be crowned champions. Grok wrote about the Hammers:

“Strong squad depth and Premier League quality should see them dominate and win the title.”
