Aston Villa Plotting Transfer For Igor Thiago To Help Ollie Watkins

Published

on

Aston Villa are planning a push to sign a record-breaking Premier League striker this summer, as Sportsboom reports that Unai Emery is keen on adding a star who can help Ollie Watkins up front.

The Villans are preparing for a return to the Champions League, which comes with a busy schedule and a jump in quality from the Europa League that they won last season.

While there is a chance that Unai Emery could lose key players, as Morgan Rogers has been linked with an exit, the focus will be on bringing new players into the squad to strengthen further.

The midfield is a key area to consider after so many injuries there last season, but the forward line also appears to be under consideration for the summer transfer window, with an ambitious move being plotted.

Aston Villa Want Igor Thiago Move

As Aston Villa look into the striker market, Sportsboom reports that the side are interested in a move for Brentford striker Igor Thiago this summer.

It’s claimed that Emery has been keen on the Brazilian forward for some time, with a last-minute approach to sign the forward being turned down back in January.

The manager believes that Thiago would be an ideal option to complement Ollie Watkins up front, who has carried the weight of the centre-forward position for some time.

Not only would it lighten the goalscoring burden on the England international, but the skillset that the Brentford star possesses is viewed as ideal for a potential partnership.

Any deal could prove to be difficult, however, due to the Bees holding all the cards when it comes to the striker’s contract situation. Thiago signed a new contract earlier this season to reward him for his impressive form, with the new deal now taking his stay at the Gtech Stadium until 2031.

It remains to be seen whether any deal could be discussed between the two teams, though there may be other problems that come with such a move.

Aston Villa Striker Balance

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery looks on

A move for Thiago makes sense for many top teams, especially as the star striker broke the record for the most goals from a Brazilian in the Premier League in the past season.

His tally of 22 for the previous campaign was only bettered by Erling Haaland, while he brings plenty of energy and an ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play.

There are questions over how the balance may work between Thiago and Watkins if he joins, however, with a similar dynamic occurring between the England international and Jhon Duran a few seasons ago.

Fabrizio Romano: Aston Villa Eyeing Move to Sign ‘One of Europe’s Best Talents’

Aston Villa could have a busy window.

In the end, neither could co-exist in the same space, as Watkins was backed to stay and Duran ended up leaving the club for an opportunity elsewhere.

It remains to be seen how such a dynamic could work again this time around, but it would be a factor to consider with any deal.

Rangers Fight To Fend Off Salzburg Move For Danny Rohl

Published

By

Rangers boss Danny Rohl is wanted by RB Salzburg this summer as the Austrian side look to replace Daniel Beichler at the helm.

But while there is interest, there is no indication that Rohl is forcing an exit from Ibrox, according to reports from the Rangers Review.

The German coach is attracting attention from the Austrian giants after they sacked Beichler following a disappointing Bundesliga campaign.

Rohl previously worked under the Red Bull umbrella during the early stages of his coaching career at Leipzig, and those connections have helped put his name into the conversation for a move back into the organisation.

The Rangers boss is now believed to be among the candidates being considered for the Salzburg role this summer, as the club look to rebuild after falling behind domestic rivals.

Danny Rohl Admired By European side

Rohl arrived at Rangers last October as the replacement for Russell Martin, inheriting a difficult situation at a club desperate for stability. His first season was far from perfect.

Rangers suffered cup defeats to Celtic and ended the Premiership campaign in third place after a late collapse in the title race that saw the Ibrox side lose four of their last five Scottish Premiership fixtures.

However, despite those setbacks, Rohl retains admirers within the Red Bull structure, including former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager was appointed as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer in 2024, taking responsibility for the strategic direction of the company’s football operations.

Thirty-seven-year-old Rohl has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, with previous experience at Bayern Munich, the German national team and Sheffield Wednesday before making the move to Glasgow.

On paper, Rohl is a young, progressive coach with Red Bull experience who fits the long-term model of Salzburg. However, any potential move is far from straightforward.

Rangers hold the cards as they fight to keep Rohl

The Austrians would first have to agree compensation with Rangers before formal talks could progress. Rohl is under contract at Ibrox until at least 2028 and there is no release clause, meaning Rangers hold a strong negotiating position if they decide to fight to keep him.

The financial side could prove decisive. Salzburg have other candidates under consideration and reports suggest they are still some distance away from meeting Rangers’ expectations.

Gers’ chairman Andrew Cavenagh publicly backed his manager last month, insisting the club believes Rohl is the right man to lead the next title challenge. He said via Rangers TV:

Danny is our coach. We think that Danny gives us the best opportunity to win the league next year.

Rangers return to pre-season training next week, with striker Lawrence Shankland currently the only summer arrival.

Cavenagh has already made it clear the club’s focus is not simply adding talent, but improving mentality, leadership and squad balance. That vision is built around the German.

Should he leave, Rangers would once again be forced into a major reset. Since 2017, the club has gone through a remarkable number of managerial changes, with Rohl becoming the seventh permanent appointment in nine years, following Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale, Philippe Clement and Russell Martin. With Graeme Murty and Barry Ferguson also having extended interim spells in charge. For a club trying to establish stability, another change would be far from ideal.

At this stage, Rohl’s situation looks more like interest than anything formal. Salzburg may admire him, Klopp’s influence may strengthen the connection and the Red Bull link may be attractive, but Rangers still hold the cards.

And with a full pre-season around the corner, with a training camp in Austria of all places on the schedule, the expectation within Ibrox remains that Rohl will be leading the next chapter.

Liverpool Really Determined to Sign Adam Wharton After Yan Diomande

Published

Liverpool are really determined to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton this summer as they continue to work on a deal for Yan Diomande, according to Mateo Moretto.

12 months ago, after winning the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s first season in charge, before spending more than £400m in the 2025 summer transfer window, it was hard to envisage what happened to Liverpool during the 2025-26 campaign.

A poor Premier League title defence saw them finish 25 points adrift of champions Arsenal, and it eventually led to the sacking of Slot following end-of-season discussions over performance and the future.

After leading Bournemouth to sixth place and Europa League football, Andoni Iraola is the chosen one for FSG as they look for a more successful 2026-27 campaign.

Liverpool chiefs will know that they need to back the Spaniard in the transfer market, with the notable exits of Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah already confirmed.

One of the 43-year-old’s main priorities will be to strengthen a frontline that is likely to be without Hugo Ekitike until 2027 because of injury, and finding the right long-term successor for Salah.

Liverpool have identified Diomande to do that, but they are looking at other positions too.

According to Moretto, speaking on Radio Marca, Liverpool are determined to sign Wharton from Palace this summer.

GIVEMESPORT sources revealed earlier this week that the Reds have a big appreciation for the England international, who missed out on a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup.

Tottenham Receive £30m Bid For Teenage Defender

Brighton have launched a £30million bid to sign highly-rated defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur, according to David Ornstein.

Vuskovic’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has come to the fore this summer after a highly successful spell on loan in the Bundesliga with Hamburg, where he was named the league’s young player of the season.

The teenager will return to north London this summer, after representing Croatia at the 2026 World Cup, and will have talks over his future, with Spurs reportedly keen to offer him a new contract, with the possibility of going back out on loan again.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in Vuskovic

There have been reports that Vuskovic could be sold this summer, something football.london Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold thinks would be “absolutely insane” given the high ceiling the Croatian has.

However, a number of other clubs are circling for the 19-year-old, with Brighton the first to make their move.

Vusovic scored six goals and laid on one assist in the Bundesliga this season – the highest-scoring defender in the league and garnered huge praise despite being part of the backline that struggled against relegation.

Vuskovic has made no secret of his desire to play alongside his brother Mario at Hamburg, with the older sibling currently serving a doping suspension.

But now, the Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that the “Croatia defender favours #BHAFC as best step for development and mutual trust with [Fabian] Hurzeler”.

Tottenham beat off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool when they secured a deal to sign Vuskovic from Hajduk Split in 2023 at the age of just 16. He would not arrive at the club until 2025, and has yet to make a senior appearance in the Lilywhite shirt.

The irony of Brighton making a £30million move to sign Vuskovic is that Spurs have already been in talks with Brighton over a transfer – to sign one of the Seagull’s defenders.

Tottenham have seen two bids rejected by the south coast club for their centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke. Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi wants to reunite with the player who was described by Lewis Dunk as showing the “greatest improvement under a manager” in north London.

Van Hecke only has one year left on his contract at the Amex Stadium, but Brighton are holding out for close to £70million to sell the 26-year-old, who is also on duty with the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup.
